As of a few days ago I'm having a problem with my local disk (C) icon in my computer. It's gone! All I see right now is a generic icon. Is there a way to get back to normal.
View 1 RepliesAt times Cd drive Icon not visible in My computer. Then I have to restart the system to get it back. I m using Windows 2003 EE SP1 in newly assembled server.
WHile browsing the contents of the CD and if I choose back option it says D: or CD drive is not accessible and I have to restart the system to get it back.
-This is a fresh installation. Please let me know what could be wrong.
I installed 'Virtual CD 5.0.6' on my desktop I installed 10 virtual drives (labelled drive G to P inclusive) I have an external hard drive (labelled 'Local Disk: L) which was turned off when i installed Virtual CD.When i turned on the external HD it did not show in My Computer (presumably because i had allocated drive L as a virtual drive I have uninstalled Virtual CD (and all 10 virtual drives) but still do not get my External HD icon showing in 'My Computer'When i go into device manager the Maxtor External HD is showing. And when i go to the 'Unplug Eject Hardware' icon on my tool bar the HD shows as a USB Mass Storage Device (but without a letter)

i can't reformatt my compputer because local disk ( C ) don't have enough
space, how do i ease local disk ( D )??? i have 7.82mb on local disk ( C )
and 74.5gm on local disk ( D ).
I have an external usb hd enclosure with an ntfs 320 gb IDE drive inside it.. when I connect it to my PC it shows up as local disk but I would rather it show as a removable disk so I can properly eject it. How would go about doing this?? thanks! (i have xp sp3)

An error would appear saying "Windows cannot find 'resycled/boot.com". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."I looked up my error online and followed the instruction of someone (probably shouldn't have), where I deleted the "boot.com" in my Registry Editor.However, now, whenever I attempt to open my Local Disk by double-clicking, instead of getting the "Window cannot find...." error, I now get: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association Folder Options control panel."

The dvdrw is set as master on secondary and its slave is the cdrw. when i go to rearrage the drive letters, the cdrw doesnt show up though it shows up when i click on "my computer"

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Computer which operates on XP Service Pack 2 and has a Maxtor 1TB external Hard Drive hooked up. We do a lot of Video Editing (programs such as DV Storm, Vegas etc.) and up until yesterday the external came up as Local Disk E, but it became unplugged whilst the Editing programs were running.It now it comes up as Local Disk (I) but the problem is the Edit programs doesn't recognise any of the files (avi., mpg etc.) that are on the drive (comes up as 'invalid path'), and nor does it show them in their previous format.

I have Norton's ghost 9.0 and I have backed up an Image of my c Drive to my E drive and I need to know what else I need to do to make this a smooth swap and as far as I know it's not possible to do this drive installation or upgrade with out my restoration Cd's for my operating system.

Although the connections work as ever, including normal internet connection, the Local Area Connection icon in the System Tray now has the "warning" symbol with exclamation point. I can find nothing wrong with the connection behavior, but I'd rather not have the "warning" showing. What can I check or do in order to get rid of it?

I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.

Now, whenever I try to install again, it gives me the error: NTLDR is missing. I made a msdos boot disc to reformat my drive such that I can try installing windows again. However, I have two hard drive (one for windows and programs and one for storage) and I don't know which one is which letter. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?

View 4 Replies View Relatedso what i did was scan for and attempt of bad sectors, when it was done i restarted the computer, then a blue screen pop up reading and checking for errors the last time i check it was on 33% so i was just sitting watching tv and all of the sudden my power for the whole house went out for about couple of min then when i turn on the computer, i tells me if i want to reboot in safe mode or normal, so i pick normal(tried safe mode also same thing happened) when it start loading a blue screen pop up saying A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen apperas again follow these steps Disable or uninstall ant anti-virus, disck defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive fongiuration, and check for any updated drives. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I tried to access Microsoft Press Interactive Training and receive a message that a file that is required for normal operation is missing. That I should reinstall it from my cd . Im the only user on this computer and havent deleted anything related to this file. I only delete cookies and temporary files.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi've tried to install drivers for the computer and noticed an error "could not access C:Windows" so i checked and the local disc is actually labeled H!I've changed C (which is a removeable drive) to X so C is avaliable, but i am unable to rename the Local Disc to C, i think because it's in use, how can i get round this?
I cannot install a driver as it by default goes to C:.
when I open My Computer, it has a list a couple things;Hard Disk Drives
Drive C: (with a hard drive icon)Devices with Removable Storage.DVD/CD+RW Drive D:(with a CD player icon)Other.Local Disk L: (icon with a drive that has a red circle over it with a white question mark in the red circle)I attached an image of My Computer window. I can format it but it is pointless because it has 0 free used space. I thought if I did that maybe I would be able to erase it, but that didn't work either. It doesn't show up in Disk Manager either. I have tried using Partition Magic to delete it, but on reboot it gives me an error 626. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.
