As of a few days ago I'm having a problem with my local disk (C) icon in my computer. It's gone! All I see right now is a generic icon. Is there a way to get back to normal.
i ran the AVG anti virus and it put some files in its vault.now i am unable to open my C: and D: drive from My Computer folder. It says it caant find copy.exe file..also some other files seem to be missing.. like host.exe svchost.exe ...I tried to restore these files from AVG VAULT but it does not seem to work... I am only being able to open C and D drive with the right click-> open option.
Cannot reformat it, because it's the only hard drive with my information left on it. The one it came from was totalled and there's no way to back it up.On startup, it recognizes that the hard drive is in. But it doesn't show up on My Computer.
I tried Customize Desktop under Display Settings for Desktop, the box next to Administrative Tools is not checked, but when I reboot, the icon is still there.
i got an icon on my desktop that wont be deleted. Ive tried deleting in safe mode, ive removed the program and the whole program file that it was related to, and im basically out of ideas says sumthing like "in use by another person or program" etc.havnt had this problem before so dno how to fix it.
I had several stop errors. They occurred when in Windows and clicking on IE. On click we got the blue screen, stop errors, abd memory dump messages. I read into the stop erros and it appears to be caused by a device just installed or a software. My wife just installed the Real Player, for the Big-Brother network, which I didn't think was a good idea but what the heck. The error also points to bad menory.
I'm trying to install the Microsoft Update Icon onto my start menu but It doesn't seem to work. I got muweb.dll and the other data one, but I can't run them as an app.
I can't seem to delete this icon on my desktop, whenever I try to delete it an error message comes up which says:'Cannot delete LuxorARSetup-dm: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again'I've rebooted numerous times. I've had this problem once before and I solved it, but I can't remember what I did!
I am running Windows XP Home and am having a problem making a specific photo editor (Arcsoft's PhotoStudio 5.5) the default program for opening image files stored in the 'My Pictures' folder in My Computer. When I first attempted to achieve it, I right-clicked on an image in 'My Pictures' and selected "Open With". I then Browsed to C:/ProgramFiles/Arcsoft/PhotoStudio 5.5/PhotoStudio.exe and clicked on Open. the PhotoStudio name appeared in the Folder options, but not the PhotoStudio icon. Instead I got the DOS icon. When I then clicked on OK, I was told that the image is not a valid WIN32 application. So, obviously Windows XP is not recognising the program.
I run WinXP/SP1. Is there some utility which will restore icons which have disappeared from the system tray ("notification area" )?I do not want to use the option for "Hide Inactive Icons" in the properties menu for Start/Toolbar.
To set the icon of any drive (hard disk, cd rom or anything else) with a letter (C: etc.), run REGEDIT (Start -> Run -> regedit) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer If one doesn't already exist, create a new KEY called "DriveIcons". Under this key, create a new key with the letter of your drive. I.e. C for your C: drive. To change the icon for that drive, create a key inside that one called DefaultIcon and set the path of (Default) to the location of your icon eg CDefaultIcon hen (Default) = D:DocumentsC Drive Icon.ico To change the name of that drive, create a key in the drive letter one (eg C) called DefaultLabel and set the (Default) to what you want the drive to be called. This is useful if you want to assign a long name to the floppy drive.
Something unexplained happened and don't know if its related to the XP (SP2) op system, new clip art or Norton 2006 install--or something else. Seems the system has a difficult time finding "my computer" when you select it. A flash light appears and after several minutes, the screen finally appears with all the drives listed. But that's not all. When I'm in a program--Microsoft or others--and want to browse to find the correct file, image, etc. to open, the system locks/freezes and won't let you select or even find the right thing.
I'm not sure how it happened, but all my files that I have set to open with Windows Picture and Fax viewer all display the "missing icon" icon. The one with the picture of a Windows 95 window on a white page. I figure the normal icon for pictures got deleted somehow, but I'd like to fix this without re-installing Windows if possible
The icon on my c drive has recently disappeared. I'm not exactly sure when this happened. Everything works find, there's just no icon. anyone know how to fix this?
I have a Dell Optiplex 760 with a DVD RW/ CD running XP. Windows does not see the DVD drive although it saw it a few weeks ago. BIOS knows about the drive. The drive tests fine on other machines. They want to reload my OS to fix it :-( which means that all the rest of the code I have on the system will be trashed and I will need to reload it all again.
OS is windows XP home. In my computer folder I doubleclick on the (C hard drive, but it doesn't open like a folder but as a search tool. I have to right click and choose open from the menu to "open like a folder".I accidentally was doing something weird in the control panel>folder properties(not sure if its called folder properties in the english xp).And now I would want it again to open like a folder, but I just don't know how.
I cannot change the audio on my computer. It's at mute and I cannot raise the volume.I checked my Device Manager and under Sounds, and video game controllers Nothing has an exclamation mark. But under 'Other Devices', my PCI Device, SM Bus COntroller and Video Controller all have exclamation marks. What do I do to fix my problem
I have WXP Home, a 160gb HD. Asus Motherboard. I partitioned the C drive with Paragon 9 and moved all my data to the D drive due to some problems and had to format and reinstall windows on the C drive. when I finished and rebooted I could access everything. A short time later I could not access the D Drive, the error message said that I did not have permission. No explanation, Just locked out. I can access folders on the D drive if I search for a folder then copy them across from the search window into the C Drive, or if I boot into Safe Mode. That is no good. I need access from My Computer by clicking on the D Drive Icon. Any suggestions.
I am running XP and have the Classic Desktop settings, I was working from my external HD and I shut in down and went to open it back up from My Computer and it was not there. I share my Internet connection with my son. I'd like to have the Taskbar on his computer show the Local Area Connection icon ( the two little monitors side by side ) the same as mine does, but I've forgotten how to do that.
My son was downloading something on the computer last night and he said all these pop ups came up and now on the task bar there is an icon , a shield with a x in the center that says your computer is infected. When I click on ok it says would you like to update your security software and install registry cleaner? Once in a while it keeps popping up from that icon that my computer has detected spyware infection and has corrupted the registry. Virus program shows nothing, well it showed threat of bloodhound and said it cleaned it but that is it. How do I get this off my taskbar and how do I get all the icons off that I dont want to run.
I lost the printer icon on my taskbar for an Epson ,anyone know how to get it back? Using Windows XP,haven't seen an error message Dell tech(??) suggested reinstalling software, which didn't help. The icon is still missing in action,it was there a few days ago.
A Dell Dimension 2400 PC with XP-Home on it. I just notice the My Computer icon is missing from my desktop. How do I restore this icon? Also, how do I eliminate all those pesky little "balloons' that pop up along my taskbar. I am the only 1 using this PC and this little balloon notification are annoying.
