i got an icon on my desktop that wont be deleted. Ive tried deleting in safe mode, ive removed the program and the whole program file that it was related to, and im basically out of ideas says sumthing like "in use by another person or program" etc.havnt had this problem before so dno how to fix it.

Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." This is the file path C:SEVEN_4X3LB_SIDE_B.ISO I have never had so much trouble with a file before. View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded an .exe file but cancelled the download before it finished. Now, it's sitting on my desktop and I can't delete it. For the past few days, it kept saying that the file is being used by another person or program. Even though the list of applications in the Task Manager was empty, I still couldn't delete it. I wasn't familiar enough with the processes to know which process to end, but I've a hunch it's explorer.exe. Now when I try to delete the same file, it says that it is not a valid Win32 application. FYI, I've tried using Killbox to delete it but it didn't work. Is there a way to delete this file?

I deleted all the folders from my desktop except one. I keep getting this error message that I cannot delete this particular folder because it is being used by another person or program and to close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I've closed all programs and no one is using this file and still I can't delete it. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

It is stored in an out of the way directory (not system directory of any sort) and I found it when I was doing some housekeeping. The name of the file is PKUNZIP.EXE and it would have been copied onto this computer a couple years ago with some other files. Now I know what pkunzip is, but xp pro this file certainly is not required. Alas when I try to delete it I get this: Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete PKUNZIP: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. So I'm pretty determined to get rid of this guy, not because it's a problem, but because it's made me mad hehe. So I tried to boot up with a 98 boot disk and delete from DOS. No go, 98 boot wont recognize NTFS.

View 14 Replies View Relatedthere is an icon on my desktop called "crack22a", and when i try to delete it a message comes up saying "it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using it and try again". i dont know what program is using it. i scanned it with antivir, so its not a virus. if i double click on it, an error message comes up saying ".../crack22a.exe is not a valid win32 application". i think i was downloading it, and firefox crashed. so it never downloaded all of it.

Step # 1.Go to this site and download Microsofts uninstaller and run it and if the program you want to get rid of is on the list select it and remove from your computer.
Step # 2. Click on start , click on run, type regedit, and when it opens click on HKey local machine, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, click on the plus sign for uninstall and it opens all the programs installed on your computer , scroll and see if the program you want to get rid of is on the listif it is right click on it and delete it.
Step # 3. Click on start, click on run, type msconfig, and when it opens click on BOOT.INI and check the box that says, SAFE MODE. Boot the computer to safe mode and when it opens click on DRIVE C and click on program files and click on the folder of the program you want to delete from your computer and delete it. Then click on the common files folder and see if it is in there and if it is delete it. Important now, go back to click on start, click on run, type msconfig, and when it opens click on BOOT.INI and uncheck the box that says, SAFE MODE or you will boot to safe mode again.Once I remembered doing all the above steps and it still started up so I ran hijackthis and deleted the entries and it was gone for good.

I am running Windows XP on a Gateway GM5084 Media Center, and for over eight months, I've been having to deal with what I believe are hackers. I have reinstalled my system, both destructive and Partial, a number of times and still haven't got rid of them. Yesterday (11/19/07), after my last reload, my username and Administrator access rights were suddenly changed from the Owner/Administrator to just someone who has limited access. I don't know what my user name is because there isn't a Welcome screen.I haven't been able to find them under "Users" in the Control Panal. Unfortunately, the Control Panal itself disappeared as of last night.
