I'd seen some discussions in this group about removing icons from the systray but that requires stopping the program from being executed by Startup using the 'msconfig' command.Is there a method/program of removing the icon from systray but leave the associated program running? Unfortunately, the program I'm running doesn't have an option to remove it from systray.

Can I remove a program's tray icon ( the one that appears near the volume icon in the taskbar ) without removing the program nor closing it? I want to totally remove the tray icon from near the volume one in the taskbar, so that it would not appear while the program is running. I don't want to hide it, but to totally REMOVE it from the system tray, Can I? Can I edit the registry for doing that or something else?

It has a non- wireless connection to the internet via my LAN.Last week, the yellow update "shield" icon appeared in my systray and I updated Windows - the update was completed. Since then, the update shield icon has appeared in my systray four times. I installed the update each time, but it seems to have been the same update each time ("KB 967715"). When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI discovered that my main computer had acquired the 'Pure Networks Platform' mess, possibly from when I installed a Linksys WRT 160n wireless router. The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry. the problem is that whenever I've attempted to "stop" the hardware I always get a message saying, "The ****device cannot be stopped now. Try stopping the device again later. The device is described as "generic volume", with what appears to be some form of identification number.

P.S. - I've newly learned that this "device" with it's icon in the system tray is the hard drive (by comparing the associated ID # indicated in the "properties" window with the hard drive # in the device manager window). I certainly don't want to remove the hard drive, but does anyone know why an icon for this device would appear in the taskbar, or know how to remove the icon only?

When I try to delete it I get a message cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk. I have tried the desktop clean up wizzard , tried to delete it safe mode, could not find it in the registry. I run adware and virus scans everyday with no problems detected. I ran a file search and found the shortcut under documents & settings but cannot delete from there either. any ideas?

Recently I installed "Ulead Video Studio 9" program on my computer. But for some reason it did not install properly, it crashed half way. Clicking on the shortcut on the desktop does not initiate the program. I decided to uninstall the program by going into the Add/Remove folder of Windows XP. But from the Add/Remove folder, I was not able to uninstall the program. Its like 174.5 MB file sitting on my programs folder. Tried to use DOS delete command to delete files. But it looks like will take few months to clear all the files. I was able to delete some files by going into each menu/sub menu etc. It looked like a very tedious process. There are thousands of files for this program. Does anyone know any good program to remove/uninstall this program without damaging other programs?
