Jul 28, 2005I am wondering if there is a way in windows nt to hide the systray icons. Or hide the Yahoo Messenger systray icon. I would donate if someone provided the resolution for my question.

View 8 RepliesWhen I went to start up my computer (HP Pavilion 750n, 768 MB RAM, 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor) yesterday, there was no power. I took it to the local repair shop. The tech said it was the power supply again (the second one I've had in 6 months). He replaced it with a non-HP power supply. It boots up and all the programs are functioning, but when I do the START>SHUT DOWN>SHUT DOWN, it just reboots. I did some investigating and found a work around for this (right click on MY COMPUTER>PROPERTIES>ADVANCED tab>STARTUP and RECOVERY SETTINGS>unchecked AUTOMATICALLY RESTART under SYSTEM FAILURE). I'm still concerned about why the icons in the SYSTRAY can't be hidden now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion ze2000.I think I have a problem with Windows Live Messenger. Actually, I think I have several problems:
1. Messenger tries to load in my tray when I start the computer. It never did this before. It also does the same when I connect to my broadband via dialler. At the moment I am denying access through Zone Alarm. Is this normal?
2. In All Programmes I have a Windows Messenger Icon and a Windows Live Messenger Icon. Again, is this normal? There is only an option to remove Live Messenger in Add or Remove Programmes.
3. There is a "1 contact pending" message above the contact list in my Live Messenger, which leads to a "page not available" message when I click on it.
3. When I close Live Messenger, I get multiple "RPC Server Not Available" warnings which I keep closing but keep reappearing. They appear too fast for me to close them, so I have to restart my machine.
I really liked but can't seem to find the same for Firefox which is what I mostly use. In IE, under explorer bars, you have the option of yahoo messenger. So, it slaps your messenger window as the lefthand side like a bookmark or history eplorer bar. Problem is this: I can't find the same thing for Firefox.

Please help me guys, my comp is really really annoying!
I'm sure if you've used Yahoo! Messenger you've noticed the adverts built in to the chat and webcam services. Here's a simple fix and it works great. Simply download http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/noads.exe & http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/noads.jpg and save them to a directory. Run the noads.exe file and then start up Yahoo! Don't delete the files after you save them or it'll stop working. Don't worry about the .exe extension, it just points Yahoo to that tiny noads.jpg and replaces the ads with it.

I am using a Dell, Windows XP Professional laptop computer. It has a non- wireless connection to the internet via my LAN.Last week, the yellow update "shield" icon appeared in my systray and I updated Windows - the update was completed. Since then, the update shield icon has appeared in my systray four times. I installed the update each time, but it seems to have been the same update each time ("KB 967715"). If it is the same update each time, which it seems to be, why would the update "shield" appear in my systray four times within a week and a half to install the same update

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The icons at far right in the system tray are stacked up and I cannot get them straightened up in a line like they were. Taking up a lot os space at the bottom now. I have tried dragging them(no luck) I can get them to auto hide but I am not happy with that either. It is probably something simple that is not coming to me.

I'll be bombarding you with questions in the weeks ahead. How do I remove unwanted icons from systray?
1) The HP printer icon is useless. There is no option to remove it from systray in properties.
2) The green icon is a "Safely remove device" service that refers to an earlier mistake I made installing my printer. I have no idea how to get rid of it.
I'm willing and capable of doing Registry hacks if necessary.
I've gone and set all the icons in my System tray, lower right corner, to ALWAYS BE HIDDEN, yet they keep coming back. Is there a registry tweak I can use? I'm using XP Home on a Compaq Laptop V5000.

1. A double monitor icon with a big red cross, that when hovered over displays '' Local area connection, a network cable is unplugged ''

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy internet connection is working fine. I have the checkbox for don't display whether connection is connected or having problems. But something weird is going on. After I come back to the computer after a while, there are multiple local area connection icons in the systray indicating that there is a cable unplugged. But my internet is working and I can't find any other local connections in network places. The other weird thing happening with those little icons in the systray is that when I try to hover over them with the mouse to right click on them to see where they are coming from, they vanish as soon as I hover over them. There will be a row from 2 - 6 of them, they al vanish as I hover across the lot of them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf you are like me and you like your desktop perfectly clean to see your background, then here is a good tweak. If you are using the regular start menu(not the classic one) and you only have the recycle bin left on the desktop and would like to get rid of it and still have easy access to it, then listen here:First drag the recycle bin into the start menu and place it at the top so it is 'pinned to the start menu' along with i.e and o.e(both these items are pinned typically).Right click on the desktop and scroll to 'arrange icons by' and then uncheck 'show desktop icons'Now the recycle bin will be gone but you will still have access to it in the start menu.
