I have a dell, and my cd icons isnt showing next to c-drive icon..i cant seem to get my cd to run either, i tried to run several cd players still not running but it does show up on my operating system when i push delete to excess it..i tried to replace the ribbon, doesnt work

WHile browsing the contents of the CD and if I choose back option it says D: or CD drive is not accessible and I have to restart the system to get it back.
-This is a fresh installation. Please let me know what could be wrong.
My Windows XP could not find the CD drive icon in the My computer or in the file explorer.I checked with the Device Manager and found the CD drive is working
normally. I've tried to uninstall and re-scan for new device. The system could find it w/o any difficulty. However, the icon still couldn't be found.
As of a few days ago I'm having a problem with my local disk (C) icon in my computer. It's gone! All I see right now is a generic icon. Is there a way to get back to normal.

He's been trying to download the Turbo Lister programme for eBay, it looks as though everything downloads OK but when he clicks on the Turbo Lister icon nothing happens. Someone suggested it could be due to the older names in the system.
"Open With" dialog box with IE.When I click in my short-cut icon(s) on the desktop to launch my web site(s) I get the dialog box which reads "Choose the program you want to use to open this file". When I then select Internet Explorer and tick the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK I get to my destination.But when I repeat the process of clicking the icon(s) for my site(s) I go through the same process again and again.It all happened when trying out Safari browser now uninstalled. The icon clicking worked properly with Safari but would not go back to working OK with IE.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell I reinstalled XP SP2 then after working for awhile i noticed my sound was not functioning. The icon was not showing up on the toolbar currently running programs( which it usually does ). Then went into ADDRomove programs to uninstall. I recieved an error " The RPC server is unavailable ". I then saw that sound devices in Properties said it was not working properly, well after everything I thought a SYSTEM REPAIR would work that didn't work eighter. Then i saw in MSCONFIG there was one Service that was unchecked DCOM server process, this service would stay that way evertime i restarted. So I then reinstalled the sound software from a CD. In installation the error code 110, RPC "server unavailable or has been corrupted".

read into the stop erros and it appears to be caused by a device just installed or a software. My wife just installed the Real Player, for the Big-Brother network, which I didn't think was a good idea but what the heck. The error also points to bad menory.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP Home and am having a problem making a specific photo editor (Arcsoft's PhotoStudio 5.5) the default program for opening image files stored in the 'My Pictures' folder in My Computer.When I first attempted to achieve it, I right-clicked on an image in 'My Pictures' and selected "Open With". I then Browsed to C:/ProgramFiles/Arcsoft/PhotoStudio 5.5/PhotoStudio.exe and clicked on Open. the PhotoStudio name appeared in the Folder options, but not the PhotoStudio icon. Instead I got the DOS icon. When I then clicked on OK, I was told that the image is not a valid WIN32 application. So, obviously Windows XP is not recognising the program.

If one doesn't already exist, create a new KEY called "DriveIcons". Under this key, create a new key with the letter of your drive. I.e. C for your C: drive. I'm not sure how it happened, but all my files that I have set to open with Windows Picture and Fax viewer all display the "missing icon" icon. The one with the picture of a Windows 95 window on a white page. I figure the normal icon for pictures got deleted somehow, but I'd like to fix this without re-installing Windows if possible

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex 760 with a DVD RW/ CD running XP. Windows does not see the DVD drive although it saw it a few weeks ago. BIOS knows about the drive. The drive tests fine on other machines. They want to reload my OS to fix it :-( which means that all the rest of the code I have on the system will be trashed and I will need to reload it all again.

Internet stopped working on system - noticed "search.iMesh" in address bar, with "IE cannot display the internet page" message displayed. Finally found and uninstalled iMesh stuff. 2. Now have Google back in address bar but unable to go online - even via Microsoft default.
I've tried 5 diff. dates with System Restore but no luck. So used flash pen to put ComboFix on and it shows up with "This machine does not have the Microsoft Windows recovery console installed".
OS is windows XP home. In my computer folder I doubleclick on the (C hard drive, but it doesn't open like a folder but as a search tool. I have to right click and choose open from the menu to "open like a folder".I accidentally was doing something weird in the control panel>folder properties(not sure if its called folder properties in the english xp).And now I would want it again to open like a folder, but I just don't know how.

Before the reinstall, I managed to track down this page on the Sony Asia website (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/dow...subpage=detail), and downloaded all of the listed drivers onto a memory stick. Having formatted the disk and installed Windows, I installed the drivers in the order listed on the website. They all worked perfectly, except for the Realtek audio driver.No sound was played by the computer, and when viewing the sound preferences under the Control Panel, I was informed that there is No Audio Device.

I have a usb key drive that works fine with several desktop and laptop computers except one desktop. When it's plugged in nothing happens. Other usb devices work fine with this computer. Device manager shows all usb controllers working with no yellow exclamations. I tried plugging the drive into a hub and directly into the usb slot with no luck. I've noticed when the drive is plugged into other computers the red light comes on. With this computer the red light doesn't come on when plugged directly in, but if it's pulled halfway out and then slowly pushed in the light comes on. It's still not recognized, however. What should I be checking?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have used this DVD burner (Sonic Solutions) with my Windows XP Media Center Edition for quite some time. I recently made a movie in Windows Movie Maker and have put 2 different kind of DVD -R discs into the D drive (I have used these discs for movie burning in the past). I am now getting messages that read "Drive NEC DVDRW 9 does not contain the appropriate type of DVD disc" and a message that said an error occurred (in general). I am guessing that something has somehow changed in recent days though other than slower than usual performance I have not had any major problems with the computer.
