I have an Emachines T3642 computer that originally came with Vista. I just down graded to XP Home edition using a windows software disk from an old laptop that is no longer working.Every thing went fine accept now my the computer is not acknowledging my ethernet connection and I am unable to get online. The ethernet cable light so I know it is working.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug an ethernet wire from a router to the ethernet port on my computer, nothing seems to happen. There is no LAN option under my "network connections" either. My first guess is that I don't have the correct driver installed (or if I have one at all for the ethernet). Can anyone help me? I tried to open up the computer to see the brand of the Ethernet card but Some of the screws were stuck and I couldn't seem to open it. It is a Laptop running Windows XP by the way. I now have the router in my room using the Ethernet hole on my new MSI K8T Neo2-F V2.0 Motherboard, but every time I try and download a file it is corrupted. I have tried many different file just in case it was that. This did not work so I tried using my USB adopter and every thing downloads fine again. I have tried everything : bought a cardbus card for the 1394, uninstall the device then reboot for windows to re-establish the drivers, disabled / reenabled to device, new drivers from dell, ms, and maxtor, updated bios from Dell for the D800, double checked the BIOS settings, and ran Dell Diagnosics cd (never had luck with this one), you name it I tried it.I am trying to attach a Maxtor HDD drive to the computer it doesn't have any usb 2.0 connections.

I've just reinstalled windows xp media center edition on my mams toshiba satalite a50 laptop but i cant get onto the internet using ethernet because i can't find the drivers well i goto install my bt home hub and it says i can only connect to the internet by using the usb wire and doesnt give me a option to use the internet throught the ethernet wire. so i install the usb drivers for the homehub and connect to the hub using usb then i went onto the toshiba website and downloaded the drivers so i could try and get my ethernet connection working but nothing seems to get it working plus my wireless connection doesnt work ther isnt anything on my computer that gives me a option to connect to the wireless network.

I just reformatted my comptuer/reinstalled windwos, and when I went to get online, I couldn't. Turns out the drivers to my computer's ethernet card were not installed. Kind of confused me a bit, since the card is exactly the same since we bough the computer about 3 years ago. I'm wondering were to get these drivers, since I cannot connect to the internet, none of the installation cd's drivers work, and the device manager is so vague about what specific hardware it is.

I am using a Swedish version, so I guess it won't help if I repeat the error-message I get when I am trying to hibernate the computer. However, when I choose to hibernate, the screen flickers and then throws a error-message saying that the system is unable to hibernate because of a driver named "Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)". I've been trying to change this driver to other versions and different alternative drivers, but I haven't succeeded. Another strange thing is that after a reboot I am able to hibernate, but right after that if I try to hibernate again I'll get that message.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start up IE7 "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pops up. The problem is my internet is working for SOME programs. Firefox is working fine, but IE7 is not. Also Steam, Ventrilo, and AIM work fine, but programs such as, UBI Internet, and Gas Powered Games Internet, and almost all games do not work. It says Winsock error problem, but I have fixed the registry keys and followed all instructions.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

I bought myself a LAN Cable.I plugged the LAN Cable into a single port router (one computer at a time) through an external Modem, and it worked great for about a month.
I tried to open a page, and a message said: Problem Loading Page. It had all the usual [U]ww.google.co.uk[U] and www.goggle.co.uk, but mine was correct. In the Taskbar (bottom right hand corner) it came up with an image two computers with yellow dots transferring between them, and then it changed to two computers with a caution sign. I hovered over it and it said: Limited or No Connectivity. So I did the obvious thing, checked cables were plugged in, unplugged cables, restarted modem, restarted computer e.t.c. but it still said Limited or No Connectivity. I went into Local Area Connection Status, and it said, Limited or No Connectivity...to renew IP Address, click "Repair". So I clicked repair, and it said could not renew IP Address, please contact Service Provider. I rang the service provider, and they said unplug everything plug it in and retry... This didn't work. Since then I’ve tried things I’ve seen on Forums, and on websites:

my intenet is weird when i go on the internet it works but when i go off of it to play cs or WoW or inything i go back on the internet and then it wont load to iny page the screen is white wont let me go to iny other page so inytime i want to go on the internet i have to restart then it does it again after i use it plz help me

Hi everyone, newbie to this site. A co-worker of mine said she was having big problems with her computer over the last few days. She said its very slow and suddenly it won't connect to the internet (comcast broadband). Had her bring it in to me so I could take a look. Oh boy. Its running XP and found that it boots extremely slow. Once booted it slows down even further. So much so that I could barely get the computer to respond when clicking on the start menu. Fairly confident it is infected with a WORM. Tried connecting to the internet which did not work either.

Some background-- the installation disk I used came with a different model Dell computer that I no longer have. I didn't have an XP disk or any driver disks for the Dell Dimension 3000. I went and installed the following two drivers on the computer (which I downloaded to a disk from Dell's website on another computer) based on suggestions from other forums but it's still not working: the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and the Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. When I go to device manager, under other devices there are yellow question marks next to "Ethernet Controller" and "Multimedia Audio Controller." Note that my internet connection is a cable connection and the motorola modem is hooked up to a belkin 54g router. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can get back on the Internet?

I can still use MSN messenger, download, and even surf the web through Microsoft Outlook, but IE is persistent that no pages are avaliable. My Windows seems to be recognizing my internet connection as well, so I do not see what happened.I then tried re-installing IE, getting all patches (I had them all anyway), but the problem still exists.
