I have used this DVD burner (Sonic Solutions) with my Windows XP Media Center Edition for quite some time. I recently made a movie in Windows Movie Maker and have put 2 different kind of DVD -R discs into the D drive (I have used these discs for movie burning in the past). I am now getting messages that read "Drive NEC DVDRW 9 does not contain the appropriate type of DVD disc" and a message that said an error occurred (in general). I am guessing that something has somehow changed in recent days though other than slower than usual performance I have not had any major problems with the computer.
Laptop is a Compaq Presario 2500 WinXP Home 2.6GHz 1gb (512x2) 333 DDR SDRAM Built in 802.11b/g 80gb hard drive, installed about 4 months ago DVDRW drive, installed about 4 months ago The DVDRW drive replaced a DVDR drive, and the problem was present before that. PowerDVD The computer hangs up or stutters while viewing DVD's. Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D say I'm clean. What else should I check?
i know this is the software section but it is becasue i also want to ask this question. what software do i use to convert any movie file format to dvd format which can also be use on a dvd player?
After suffering a powercut a few weeks ago and having my PC crash, then perform some weird changes on reboot, I was left with no alternative but to reformat my primary hdd and reinstall Windows XP Pro. Since then all my drive letters have altered, so now my system drive is no longer labelled 'C' but 'H'. I know how to change the other drive letters in the Disk Management console but because the C/H drive is the system drive that cannot be changed, I can live with that. However a more serious problem has occurred and I have tried all the usual remedies suggested by other, more knowledgable sources to fix it. The problem is I have lost access to my CDRW/DVD combo and DVDRW
i have a dvd + - rw and it just stopped working the other day i was like whatever now i need it for a project for school and i cant get it to work can ne one help and i upgraded the ram a few weeks ago
I have a usb key drive that works fine with several desktop and laptop computers except one desktop. When it's plugged in nothing happens. Other usb devices work fine with this computer. Device manager shows all usb controllers working with no yellow exclamations. I tried plugging the drive into a hub and directly into the usb slot with no luck. I've noticed when the drive is plugged into other computers the red light comes on. With this computer the red light doesn't come on when plugged directly in, but if it's pulled halfway out and then slowly pushed in the light comes on. It's still not recognized, however. What should I be checking?
Dell dimension e520, and for some reason my dvd drive has magicly stopped working it will recognize that the dvd is in there but it wont play it! i found this out trying to play cod4 and ive also tried several movies and other games, none of them worked, ive uninstalled and reinstalled the software, i have gone into the device manager and haven't been able to find anything wrong there but idk im very good at this stuff.
I have an ASUS laptop running WinXP SP2. Recently the autoplay function on my CD/DVD drive has stopped working. It still reads the cds and dvds but when I insert one it doesn't register it (i.e. display the name of the cd/dvd) and doesn't autoplay. I have checked the properties of the drive and autoplay is switched on for all cd/dvd types (I have also reset it to default settings to make sure). I have tried the Microsoft Autoplay fix for Win XP as well but this hasn't worked either.I can't think of any software that I have installed or uninstalled recently that could have caused this not to work and I can't think of anything else to try.
I have a dell, and my cd icons isnt showing next to c-drive icon..i cant seem to get my cd to run either, i tried to run several cd players still not running but it does show up on my operating system when i push delete to excess it..i tried to replace the ribbon, doesnt work
Something is wrong with my flash drive. I've been saving files to it, and each time before disconnecting I go to "stop" the drive before removing it. However, most of my files have been lost on it, reduced to some obscure format that I can't work with. Also, each time I put it in, I get this message asking me if I want to scan and fix errors on the flash drive. Selecting "more options" reveals that, apparently, it's not a Windows XP drive. What is going wrong? Is there some way to just re-format the entire zip drive and start from scratch?
When I delete an item on both my C & external drive the item does not appear in my recycle bin.Can anyone help me fix this problem?I am running XP home sp3
I have an external USB 2.0 case with a 160GB HD that was working just fine until a couple of days ago when I stopped the drive and unplugged it from the PC. Next time I connected the drive to the same PC, I got a message saying "There was a problem installing your device" and in the Properties window for the device a Code 10 appears. I connected the same drive to a different computer and it is working perfectly. I uninstalled the device and reinstalled it again but the problem still persists.
when I try and download a new program on my computer, it tells me to put in disk so I do and it tells me it can't find it. I go to properties and it tells me that this function is operating properly

My Inspiron 6000 recently crashed and the dell tech support told me it was the hard drive. I ordered the new one and after putting it in, I still get the same message I got with the old one: "Internal HDD HARD error! No bootable devices--Strike F1 to try reboot, F2 to enter set-up utility"
Multiple computers blue screen on him lately. the 4th BSoD-laden computer, but it's got me and the Sys Admin pretty stumped, so maybe I can find an answer here. The computer is a CSI brand with AMD Athlon XP proc & Windows XP. The problem hdd is a WD 400, and we also have another working WD 400 in another computer that I'll mention later. Both have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and were originally in separate computers (each was the only harddrive in its comp originally.
Trying to start a computer with the problem WD 400 alone results in a blue screen error right after the windows screen (if I remember correctly...it's not long after the hdd, etc is recognized anyways), and gives the STOP error 0x00000024, and mentions some problems with the NTFS. I found that the ..24 STOP error has to do with the NTFS.sys file, but that doesn't help me much. The computer does not let me do anything after this BSoD error, and upon restart, I just get the same error, no matter which Safe/etc mode I try...it doesnt load into any of the modes.
I extensively use the run dialog, as a quick way of navigating to drives / folders in explorer, however this has recently stopped working. If i now type a directory (e.g. C:Windows) in the run dialog, I get an Open With dialog from which I then have to click browse and type c:windowsexplorer.exe every time
I have a Sony VGN-T1XP Vaio laptop with an Intel Pentium M Processor running XP Pro SP2. For some reason the two USB ports have stopped working and no USB devices are recognised. I have looked at the device manager under USB controllers and there are four USB controllers listed which are as follows: Intel 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 enhanced host controller 24CDIntel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C2Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C4Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C7 Underneath those are four USB root hubs. I have previously used a USB card reader and external hard drive on both ports without any problems but now when I connect any device nothing at all happens.
Every time I try to install Windows XP from the CD onto my friend's computer, I get to the blue screen where you're able to format/partition the hard drive and then his keyboard stops working. I don't know how to get around this because I can't continue the installation w/o the use of the keyboard. Unfortunatly, he has Windows ME on his computer right now so this issue needs to be resolved.
I uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.
Whenever I start up IE7 "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pops up. The problem is my internet is working for SOME programs. Firefox is working fine, but IE7 is not. Also Steam, Ventrilo, and AIM work fine, but programs such as, UBI Internet, and Gas Powered Games Internet, and almost all games do not work. It says Winsock error problem, but I have fixed the registry keys and followed all instructions.
I have a Gateway CX2618, w/ windows XP tablet edition 2005 version 2002, sp2. And wanted to wipe it clean and reinstall just the things I use. Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.
I just recently reinstalled Windows XP on my computer, my USB keyboard is working fine, but my mouse is not working, I tried it in all the USB ports for it and I am getting no response, I am getting a curser on screen but no movement nor am I able to click.
I de-infected a windows XP system with SP3 and IE7. Once I did that, http no longer loaded in IE. It does not work in portable firefox either. I can type in ftp:// ftp address and IE works. Likewise I can use https:// and the page loads! What is going on: I tried:
1) Reset ie7 as per MS 2) Removed IE 7 2a) IE6 would not load http either 3) reapplied SP3 4) Repair install win winxp cd. 5) Deleted and re-installed network card
This is where I am now. Still no http://. Since multiple applications are affected, I do not think it is a browser helper.
I'm using Speedtouch 330 DSL modem single port when i changed the ISP cannot browse the sharing Internet but i can use Yahoo Messenger. Windows XP, before 3 computers working fine when i changed the ISP internet card thru DSL modem with single port i cannot browse the other with.
Today I noticed that what WAS my E drive is now called F and what was my F drive is now called G. I don't know how it happened, but it's wreaking havoc with Adobe Premiere because on all old projects I have to relocate all files on what were F that are now on G. It's also messing up my shortcuts.
I am try to two partition drive C and drive D in my computer but only one c or d instoling. i have 4000mb hardrive, please tell me how can i instol partition in my window xp professional.
I had to buy a new Hard drive and installed it into my computer.also have a slave drive that is much smaller. the slave drive has always been drive e: or drive d:. But for some reason after I re-installed windows and ran it, it now made my slave drive into drive c: and my master drive into drive e:! How do I switch the two? The slave master is set up properly in the BIOS. The large drive is the master and the small drive is the slave. But how do I assign the c:designation to the large drive and the e: designation to the small slave drive.
When installing a larger main drive, how do I get the drivers copied onto the slave before I take out the main one I wonder is there a simple way of doing this, I am using Windows XP home edition, the PC is an oldish one and isn't any specific make, so I can't get any clever programs from the manufacturers site
