CD Drive ICON Missing: Unable To Access The Drive?
Jan 28, 2008
At times Cd drive Icon not visible in My computer. Then I have to restart the system to get it back. I m using Windows 2003 EE SP1 in newly assembled server.
WHile browsing the contents of the CD and if I choose back option it says D: or CD drive is not accessible and I have to restart the system to get it back.
-This is a fresh installation. Please let me know what could be wrong.
As of a few days ago I'm having a problem with my local disk (C) icon in my computer. It's gone! All I see right now is a generic icon. Is there a way to get back to normal.
I have WXP Home, a 160gb HD. Asus Motherboard. I partitioned the C drive with Paragon 9 and moved all my data to the D drive due to some problems and had to format and reinstall windows on the C drive. when I finished and rebooted I could access everything. A short time later I could not access the D Drive, the error message said that I did not have permission. No explanation, Just locked out. I can access folders on the D drive if I search for a folder then copy them across from the search window into the C Drive, or if I boot into Safe Mode. That is no good. I need access from My Computer by clicking on the D Drive Icon. Any suggestions.
I have a dell, and my cd icons isnt showing next to c-drive icon..i cant seem to get my cd to run either, i tried to run several cd players still not running but it does show up on my operating system when i push delete to excess it..i tried to replace the ribbon, doesnt work
My Windows XP could not find the CD drive icon in the My computer or in the file explorer.I checked with the Device Manager and found the CD drive is working normally. I've tried to uninstall and re-scan for new device. The system could find it w/o any difficulty. However, the icon still couldn't be found.
I am unable to access my cd rom drive. After inserting a data cd and clicking on the cd rom icon, a blank screen appears.I would be most grateful for any help you might be able to provide me.
Having been severely burnt by previous pc crashes I have built my last computer with two hard drives. I installed my o.s. WinXp, SP2 together with several minor programmes on C:I then used D: as a storage drive and have lots of valuable info on this drive including two websites. I have had a crash, and when I couldn't get C: up and running even trying the XP CD and using "R" repair wouldn't start, I then thought surely I will be able to format C: and re-install WIN XP, which I did.The pc is back running, but it has re-lettered the drives, C: , the CD ROM drive is now D: , and the 2nd hard drive is now E: (is this significant?) Now when I go to windows explorer or my computer when I click in the 2nd hard drive I get a message telling me this disc has not been formatted, Do I want to Format this?
have a duel boot system with a legacy windows 2000 installation and a Windows XP Proffessional(SP2),I am able to access a 250GB second drive thru the windows 2000 installation but not with the XP.The Boot drive is 80Gb WD drive, and usually runs with another 80Gb WD drive. All drives are NTFS.I have SP2 installed with XP and understooed that access to large hard drives was set to default with the install of SP1.I have tryed to use the support pages at M$ which state that I need atapi.sys drivers (non existant in my XP), But the fix which they give won't install due to me having SP2 already.I think i just need to install latest atapi drivers and change the registry to enable large hard drives but i'm perplexed as to why they arn't already there.
when i tried to right click on my drives, i.e. c drive, removable disks, the option only includes open and explore. However, when i tried to right click on folders, the available option includes open, explore and search.. how do i include the "search" option?
Hello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?
A little over a year ago I purchased a used IBM Thinkpad laptop from ebay for my wife. It came with Windows 2000 Professional installed and everything worked fine. No CDs or floppies came with the computer. A couple of months later, it was stolen by one of her business associates. It eventually was recovered, but the thief had installed Windows XP along with the OS that was already installed. In trying to remove XP and return the machine to its original state, I somehow managed to eventually not be able to use either OS. As it stands now I have no OS and cannot even access my hard drive. When I boot from a floppy then try to change to C: drive, I get the error message: Invalid media type reading drive c: Abort, Retry, Fail?
XPpro with two HDs, CDr/w and DVDr/w.(D AND (E are (were?) a 20G drive which I partitioned over a year ago. This morning I came across a 4G drive in an old box. (really). Being a curious type I pulled the power and ribbon leads from the DVD and plugged them into the 4G HD, after setting the jumper to slave. Then switched on. A dos line appeared saying 'automatically configuring an F: drive' After which Windows appeared to boot up normally. Except that 'My Computer' showed no (D The 4G (F drive showed as not formated. So... I removed the 4G and replaced the leads back to the DVD. My Computer' shows 3.5 floppy Local Disk(C FRSTHAFOLD(D 9G abt Notice NO (E
Not only that but my D drive is missing lots of files and folders wont open. It seems that the partitioning has been forgotten! I have checked what bios settings there are (not many on Compaq 5000) And the bios sees my main Crive and only one 20G disk I have a bad feeling about this Is there any way to get things back to normal?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that hard drive letters were assigned each time the machine booted up & only c & d were reserved for the operating system & CD/DVD drive & if the number of drives altered from one boot up to the next these letters could change. The reason hat I ask is that I changed an internal drive which had several partitions on it only to find that this drive isn't recognized, but even though it isn't recognized by My Computer or disk management the other partition are labeled as if this were listed.I now don't have a an 'e' & 'g' drive listed. But I do have a 'J' & 'k' listed. Where is my other drive 'e' & 'g' & how do I get to use the data on them.
2nd drive no longer shows up in BIOS, my computer, or control panel system hardware. When I checked my C drive, in the control panel system hardware it's now listed as a SCSI hard drive, and includes a SCSI controller. How do I convert it back to a standard IDE SATA hard drive. And is this transformation is the cause of my lost 2nd drive?
On my pc, I had one drive with Windows 98 on it, and one drive with Windows XP on it Windows 98 was on drive C: XP was on D: They were set up so I could choose which one to boot to at start up I wanted to get rid of the 98 entirely, so I edited the boot ini, just removing the entry for windows 98 after restarting the computer, everything was fine....going directly to XP so I wanted to format the 98 drive so I could use it as additional storage, which I did using norton partition magic, I then shut down my computer......turned it back on.....and I get an error saying: NTLDR is missing.
recently we had power failure and when I turned my computer back on, my bios came up.I tryed to exit out but some how disconnected or turned off my second hard drive and can not get it to go in the active state again, how do I check for the missing letter E that the drive is on orfind access to this drive
I'm not sure how it happened, but all my files that I have set to open with Windows Picture and Fax viewer all display the "missing icon" icon. The one with the picture of a Windows 95 window on a white page. I figure the normal icon for pictures got deleted somehow, but I'd like to fix this without re-installing Windows if possible
i just installed a fresh winxp pro, i did not set any password so the windows starts up without asking password, so i believed i have the administrative rights i have 2 local drives (c:) and (d:) i run gpedit.msc and configure the following:
1. remove run in start menu 2. remove search in start menu 3. prohibit command prompt to be use 4. Prevent access to drive access from my computer (drive c: only) 5. Hide specific drive in my computer (drive c: only)
i closed gpedit.msc now i cant re-run gpedit.msc to configure my settings again because i cannot access drive c: where gpedit resides (c:windowssystem32gpedit.msc) i dont want to re-install the whole thing or to start all over again. winxp expert
To set the icon of any drive (hard disk, cd rom or anything else) with a letter (C: etc.), run REGEDIT (Start -> Run -> regedit) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer If one doesn't already exist, create a new KEY called "DriveIcons". Under this key, create a new key with the letter of your drive. I.e. C for your C: drive. To change the icon for that drive, create a key inside that one called DefaultIcon and set the path of (Default) to the location of your icon eg CDefaultIcon hen (Default) = D:DocumentsC Drive Icon.ico To change the name of that drive, create a key in the drive letter one (eg C) called DefaultLabel and set the (Default) to what you want the drive to be called. This is useful if you want to assign a long name to the floppy drive.
When I click on the start button and then onto All Programs there is nothing there. My friend found the program files in a folder and moved that folder to the desktop so I could access them. I can't even find Accessories to run a defrag either. How can I get all the programs back onto the listing in the All Programs section? I tried a drag and drop - did'nt work.

The icon on my c drive has recently disappeared. I'm not exactly sure when this happened. Everything works find, there's just no icon. anyone know how to fix this?
i turned on my pc i got the error XP Could not start, the following file is missing or corrupt: I run Microsoft Windows home service pack 2Also, to complicate things, My computer is lacking a disk drive, so i only have access to USB ports.
I have a Dell Optiplex 760 with a DVD RW/ CD running XP. Windows does not see the DVD drive although it saw it a few weeks ago. BIOS knows about the drive. The drive tests fine on other machines. They want to reload my OS to fix it :-( which means that all the rest of the code I have on the system will be trashed and I will need to reload it all again.
OS is windows XP home. In my computer folder I doubleclick on the (C hard drive, but it doesn't open like a folder but as a search tool. I have to right click and choose open from the menu to "open like a folder".I accidentally was doing something weird in the control panel>folder properties(not sure if its called folder properties in the english xp).And now I would want it again to open like a folder, but I just don't know how.
Today I noticed that what WAS my E drive is now called F and what was my F drive is now called G. I don't know how it happened, but it's wreaking havoc with Adobe Premiere because on all old projects I have to relocate all files on what were F that are now on G. It's also messing up my shortcuts.
When I go to my computer and try to double click on the C drive to open it I get the following error. C: esycledoot.com is not a valid win32 application.
Can anyone tell me the way how to connect PC-A using OS (WIN NT) to connect to PC-B OS (WIN XP) I do what i know like PC-B sharing the folder or drive , then try to connect it can't seem to connect any drive at all.
