I've got a P III that is crawling from window to window. It was very fragmented and had some viruses. I have since defraged and run the latest spybot to clear everything but the system is still very slow. Does anyone know of any free tools that could run diagnostics and maybe point me in the right direction to catch some speed ?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP Home and recently my pc has slowed right down. It keeps making noises like it's processing something, even when I have no programs open. I've tried running some anti-spyware and adware programs to make sure it's nothing like that clogging up my system but this hasn't made any difference. If anyone can give me any advice, or things I should try looking at or doing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer started slowing dow about a month ago. It got to where it took forever to load when I turned the computer on and even opening software took forever. Same with turning it off. It also hangs up on me. I can't even press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete to end a program when its not responding. I have to strictly turn the computer off just to get somewhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. I have the entire Norton system and catches nothing. It says all systems are working properly.
I was asked earlier if I had ever put a music CD in the computer that was by SONY, and I can say that probably close to 20 over the 4 years that I have had it. I was told that SONY puts this "thing" on the CDs that transfer to your computer before you even hear the music so that you are penalized if you try to duplicate them.
Could someone please take a look at my HJT log. My CPU went up to 100% about ten minutes ago and hasn't dropped since. I didn't see any odd processes and I just restarted and it just jumped right back up to 100.
View 14 Replies View Relatedmy computer has been running abnormally slow, and I don't mean 5-10 seconds for a program to load, more minutes. Once, it took, from turning the computer on, to arriving on desktop a total of 12 minutes, that was without half the stuff even loading by then!
The slow speed usually occurs when rebooting, I left my computer on for serveral days and eventually it worked good as ever.
I'm not sure if it matters, but soon before loading the desktop, there's a weird grinding type noise coming from the computer, this lasts for about 5-6 seconds, and happens several times.
I have a laptop operating on Windows XP. Recently my computer has become extremely slow. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer using Windows XP operating system has become extremely slow. It takes around 30 seconds to bring up Microsoft WORD and EXCEL. It is similarly slow on my other programs. I frequently run Spy-Bot and Ad-Aware which have detected no problems.
On turning on my computer, it takes about 2 minutes for Windows XP to start up and no MS audio is heard during the start up phase. Audio is working on other programs, however, such as MS Windows.
computer is running extremely slow during all aplications. takes a long time load settings or open any program.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to actually run windows updates for once, and I did, it said it was upgrading to windows XP SP3. But then after a while it became extremely slow and I couldn't run anything in the background, the bar was half way through so I left the computer on over night, to find in the morning that the updates were still not finished and the bar was still halfway. The updates were still happening though as different file names like "installing blahblah.dll" were coming up every 10 or so seconds. It's been updating for about 12 hours now and the computers basically frozen and is so slow I can't do anything. I don't want to shut down my computer as I know that's a bad thing to do during windows service pack updates, but what else can I do? This SP update has been going on all night and the bar hasn't moved at all. Should I just shut down/restart the computer and let it restore on startup? It did say at the beginning of the updates that it was backing up my files, and if it didn't I could do system restore. OR, should I just leave my computer on untill it finishes?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn the Task Manager it goes between about 85 to 99%. And no, I'm not looking at the System Idle Process as so many newbies do. A few days ago I had the motherboard replaced as it was bad. It was done at a service place in Tijuana. They had to reformat the hard disk and reinstall my versions of XP and my upgrade to XP Pro. Then I have been updating via the internet to the Windows updates including Service Pac 3.

View 2 Replies View Relatedit takes forever to do anything. It's like it can only do one thing at a time its so slow. When I turn it on and log into my profile, it takes about 5 mins for it to load the desktop and about another 5 mins to load the antivirus software (Norton Security Suite 2010). The same goes for everything I do on this computer, it takes a while for the internet browser (IE 8 and FireFox), opening any program on this computer takes a while to load up. I have run Norton and it doesn't come up with anything. I have done a system restore a couple of times but it doesn't seem to help any

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's computer is extremely slow, and I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. She has a Dell Dimension 2350, (I believe) with a celeron processor. It's not that old (maybe 4-5 years old?).
I am always running her ad-aware and spybot. I just updated her Norton Anti Virus and ran that last night. At this point, I'm not thinking it's any spyware or viruses since they've all been deleted and cleaned out. She used to have spyware, and a lot. Does anyone think that even though it's been cleaned out, perhaps some kind of "permanent" damage has been done to her registry as a result of the spyware I deleted from her computer several months ago?
