every time i try to install xp pro by booting from disk it tells me to pick a partition from the list. but then the list says that there is nothing there and then when i hit c to create a partition like it says to do. it does nothing. now i dont know what is causing this.

I tried to create one, but it said something like "You have no more space to create another partition because you used up all your space on your Windows primary partition". See, when I reformatted my computer a while back I just created 1 partition for Windows and applied all the space onto that partition.
If there is a way I could remove some space off of my Windows primary partition and create another partition with the space I removed. I want to do this so I can put general things in my other partition such as documents, music, etc. and just leave the other partition for Windows and programs.
i recenty reinstalled xp and for some reason it only partitioned 4.87GB of my 120GB HD...i got another xp cd and tried to delete the existing partion and create a new one but it wouldn't let me saying that, there was temporary files needed for installation on that partition.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy friend and I took both of our old computer and combine them so we could have a small end gaming computer. Previously on the Hardrive was installed Windows 98 but we reformatted the Harddrive and are trying to put Windows Xp on it. We went through the setup with a series of from my HP System Recovery CD's (7 Disc's). Which installs Window's Xp, we went through all 7 CD's and at the very last CD when the installation was about complete it says "Unable to locate/create user partition." I have no idea what this means...and everytime we boot up the computer it just trys to do the Hp System Restore again but only goes as far as the unable to locate/create user partition.I'm not real sure what I should do...or how I can get out of it.but if theres anyway possible just to reformat again since I can't really get out of it can you please tell me how!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI opened Disk Cleanup and chose More Options. I clicked on Windows Components and decided that everything on the list was just fine. I clicked Next and I guess I should have clicked Cancel. The box said it was deleting files, etc and I wondered why, when I hadn't checked anything and all the boxes were unchecked. Anyway, I then went to System Restore and created a restore point so I could do the cleaning up of my System Restore. I am so mad at myself because I know I should've created a system restore point prior to doing any of the Disk cleanup!!! When I had finished cleaning up with Disk Cleanup, I tried to copy some info from a newsletter, only to find out that my WordPad program was not available!!!! Where could I have lost this program, in Disk Cleanup???? I need help to find out how to get my Wordpad program back, since I can't use system restore.

I just reformatted my hard drive using Windows XP re-installation CD. After successfully formatting and installing xp, it goes to restart to continue with the setup. Once it starts to boot it says that press any key to boot from cd but I don't do anything cause it's not supposed to so it try's to boot from hard drive but says: Disk read error Press ctrl + alt + del to restart. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have with my disk setup. I have 3 dynamic disks which were all working fine until last night when I upgraded my processor and memory. I have fitted an XP 2600 with 333 FSB in place of the 266 version. I also replaced my 512MB of PC2700 with PC3200. I should explain that I did not realise my MB supported the 333 FSB when I bought it. The PC 3200 is purely to give me some leeway for overclocking. Anyway since changing the memory and PSU the PC will not boot at all. I can boot from a floppy or CD but I cannot from the C drive. If I try to restore from a ghost image on another drive I am not given the option to copy to the C drive at all. If I try to re-install Windows or I try to repair the existing installation, I am not given the option to repair at all. I also cannot get into recovery console

my computer MB took a dump so I bought a new system. I figured I just boot the new system using my old hard drive. No dice. So I boot the new system using the hard drive and OS that came with it and installed my old drive as a slave. When I try to access the documents and settings folder on the old hard drive so I can pull over the favorites, documents, etc. to my new drive it says access denied. The username and password on my new system are the as on the old one. Any ideas on how to get access to that folder?

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe way my recovery partition works on my netbook is when it was first used (I didnt not use it first) is it creates an image of the system when all the system has been setup then when ever I have to use the recovery it used that image to just overwirte and replace everything.I have access to the partition where the Recovery is stored and I have my Recovery Disk but as its a netbook I have no Drive, I can copy the disk files onto my Pen drive (if my pen drive is big enough)
I want to know if there is anyway I can change it so I can use the recovery and do it from scratch like when it was first turned on (first use) because there are setting there and other items that I want to change. If I could do it by editing the files in the partition that would be easier but I can try and use the disk if needs be?
I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?
