Create A Restore Point After Disk Cleanup
Jan 6, 2005I opened Disk Cleanup and chose More Options. I clicked on Windows Components and decided that everything on the list was just fine. I clicked Next and I guess I should have clicked Cancel. The box said it was deleting files, etc and I wondered why, when I hadn't checked anything and all the boxes were unchecked. Anyway, I then went to System Restore and created a restore point so I could do the cleaning up of my System Restore. I am so mad at myself because I know I should've created a system restore point prior to doing any of the Disk cleanup!!! When I had finished cleaning up with Disk Cleanup, I tried to copy some info from a newsletter, only to find out that my WordPad program was not available!!!! Where could I have lost this program, in Disk Cleanup???? I need help to find out how to get my Wordpad program back, since I can't use system restore.

Sep 11, 2005Windows XP network wizard wants me to create a floppy disc to use on other machines on my home network. Problem is I have a media card reader that shows as four separate drives under My computer but no floppy disc drive.The network wizard only gives me the option of creating a disc on one of the four media card drives.I can't even browse for another drive.

Mar 17, 2010Whenever I try to create a restore point, Windows keeps telling me that it cant, saying "System Restore Is not able to create a restore point.Please restart the computer and run System restore again." I've done this and it doesn't work. I've also checked to see if the Service is running normally, and that is running perfect.

Mar 12, 2005I'm using Windows XP Pro Home Edition (Service Pack 2) on an HP Pavilion a250y desktop. I have noticed recently that there are no system restore points on my computer. A check of the Event Viewer seems to indicate that my computer has unsuccessfully tried to create five system restore points in the past four days. If I right-click on any of the unsuccessful system restore attempts listed to view the error properties and then click on the hyper link associated with the error properties, I get a message indicating that System Restore will automatically restart if I manually create a restore point. However, when I try to do this, I get the message contained in the subject line. Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem?

Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again''. And yoy get the message again after rebooting. Also you cannot retore from a restore point, the calendar only shows the current month.

Oct 22, 2005When I attempt to run System Restore to create a restore point I get the following error message:"System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then try System Restore again." But restarting the computer does not solve the problem. Also, when I attempt to restore to an earlier date/time and click Next to confirm nothing happens.System Restore doesn't work in Safe Mode either. I also tried Revert to time when last worked in the boot option menu.As far as I know these problems occurred after Oct. 10 (the last time I created a good Restore Point) and this morning when I attempted to create a restore Point.I have run currently updated AVG 7, S&D, Adaware, Ewido, and MS Anti-spyware and came up clean.

I tried to create my own restore points and received message system restore is not able to create restore point please restart the computer and then run system restore again. Can someone please tell me how to rectify this problem.Was having trouble with screen saver which refused to start but have now disabled ehtray and screen saver is now working again.

Aug 22, 2010I have a question about being able to restore data using the Windows Backup program in XP WITHOUT making an ASR floppy. (I apologize for not having any more details about the system. I don't own the system and don't have access to it right now.) I chose the 3rd option, to backup "All information on this computer," and backing up to an external HD took about an hour. However, I'm not familiar with the program and didn't know that I would need a floppy disk after the backup. I didn't have access to one and therefore had to cancel that part of the backup.If the system's internal HD fails and loses all its data, will the external HD be able to restore everything even though I never created an ASR floppy? (i.e. will I be able to create a working ASR floppy somehow even if the system's own internal HD is dead?)I should note that I'm referring to personal data files (MS Office documents, pictures, etc.), NOT application files. I've tried to find the answer on this forum and other sites, but this specific question did not seem to be addressed.

Dec 20, 2005I am trying to install a dual boot system on XP but I am unable to boot from the floppy dirve with a Windows ME bootable disk. The A drive is the first thing in the bios and it is set for 3.5, 1.44mb size disk. At the very bottom of the bootup screen, it shows "Floppy Disk Fail (40). The floppy drive works ok whenever XP is up and running in that I can put a floppy in the drive and open it and view the files, copy the files and most anything I need to do. I have read everything I can find on that error but since the drive seems to work ok other than for boot up, it has me stumped.

I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro
Floppy Disk Failure - Slow Start Up
Aug 7, 2009My problem is when I turn on my Dell 5100 I get a floppy disk failure message and it instructs me to hit f-1 which then allows me to boot up. I dont have a floppy disk and this is slowing start up. What can I do to fix this? I went into Bios to try and fix this, nothing has worked. Also when I attempt to start windows media center it crashes.

Sep 22, 2005I have been trying to transfer my "favorites" from my old computer (windows 98) to my new one with windows XP. When I copy the favorites onto the floppy I can see that they are all there. BUT, when I put that floppy into my new computer it changes the favorites contents to those on the new computer. For instance: I had probably 100 sites to copy and my new computer favorites only has about 10 sites. Now those 10 sites are on the floppy and not the 100 I placed there.....I'm confused.

I've tried a couple of things suggested like disabling restore points then enabling it, letting it just sit idle and I've checked that I have enough room ( there's lots of room ).
