I am trying to update my EVGA 7800GT's BIOS as well as my motherboard's. I have done this a few months ago, same disks and everything.When I create a floppy with the required files and restart, I get the following message:"Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready."
View 2 RepliesI have a P4 HT (old one) I formatted its hard disk using another comp to install a fresh copy of WinXP but the bootable XP is unable to start as there is a "GRUB" message that is last shown and then nothing happens.I have only 1 drive attached to this comp which is this one.it is running in a slave mode(doesn't matter as its the only default drive for the motherboard to read, and i have lost my jumper pin so thats y it is running in a slave mode.)What shd i do abt this "GRUB" message and how shd i go about installing WinXP ?
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy computer MB took a dump so I bought a new system. I figured I just boot the new system using my old hard drive. No dice. So I boot the new system using the hard drive and OS that came with it and installed my old drive as a slave. When I try to access the documents and settings folder on the old hard drive so I can pull over the favorites, documents, etc. to my new drive it says access denied. The username and password on my new system are the as on the old one. Any ideas on how to get access to that folder?

There is NO disk in the reader. If you hit any key the computer continues to boot "normal" It isn't a big problem, but a sign of something not being right.

I just reformatted my hard drive using Windows XP re-installation CD. After successfully formatting and installing xp, it goes to restart to continue with the setup. Once it starts to boot it says that press any key to boot from cd but I don't do anything cause it's not supposed to so it try's to boot from hard drive but says: Disk read error Press ctrl + alt + del to restart. I don't understand whats up. I had Windows 7 installed before but do to unfortunate circumstances I have to install XP for now, but I can't complete the installation.Priority Boot Sequence:1.CD 2. Hard Drive.

I did so, but the feature/dll/driver whatever it was (I forget) was not on the disk.Now, whenever I start my machine it stubbornly requests that I insert the install disk. I installed a cool little startup utility by Mike Lin, but am not sure what to turn off.

The Pc can lauch the boot process ( asking you to press F10 to access the Boot Menu or F2 for the Bios Settings) then the operating system, but some how the above error message always closes the process up. I have a Hewlet packard computer here, the mother board is a n1996, th eoperating system is ME. The computer justwill not boot at all., it gets to the ME Logo and th escreene just goes black. I can satrt it in safe mode, but i cannot restore it to an earlier date, no mater which date i choose, i just get the mnessage can not restore. I want to, reformat and install XP home, but the CD ROM does not show in my computer and it does not see the disk when i put it in. Also i tried to boot from a Woindows 98boot disk, and themn i get the message non system disk, replace and press any leter to continue.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install a dual boot system on XP but I am unable to boot from the floppy dirve with a Windows ME bootable disk. The A drive is the first thing in the bios and it is set for 3.5, 1.44mb size disk. At the very bottom of the bootup screen, it shows "Floppy Disk Fail (40). The floppy drive works ok whenever XP is up and running in that I can put a floppy in the drive and open it and view the files, copy the files and most anything I need to do. I have read everything I can find on that error but since the drive seems to work ok other than for boot up, it has me stumped.

I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro
