error began appearing on my computer yesterday (running XP Home, 2nd SP). When I'm booting up cold or not I get a screen which says "Floppy Disk fail 40" and then it allows me to continue by pressing the F1 key.
View 6 RepliesI am trying to install a dual boot system on XP but I am unable to boot from the floppy dirve with a Windows ME bootable disk. The A drive is the first thing in the bios and it is set for 3.5, 1.44mb size disk. At the very bottom of the bootup screen, it shows "Floppy Disk Fail (40). The floppy drive works ok whenever XP is up and running in that I can put a floppy in the drive and open it and view the files, copy the files and most anything I need to do. I have read everything I can find on that error but since the drive seems to work ok other than for boot up, it has me stumped.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk so I custom built my computer from parts I had at home and completed it and was having problems getting it to boot at home. So I worked on it for a while and did get it to boot. So thus I packed it up and brought it to college. when I set up my computer in the dorm and turned it on it went to the phoenix bios screen then didnt detect my hardrive and thus failed to boot. After a couple of minutes in BIOS I got it to reconigze my HD adn I rebooted. On the Phoniex BIOS screen it gave me these errors:
Floppy disk(s) fail (40)
CMOS checksum error- Defaults loaded
It then allowed me to hit f1 to continue which I did and it displayed this error Hooking bootstrap interupt 18h... After this it fails to do anything. I have gotten to the point where it doesn't display the first 2 errors I mentioned through replacing the CMOS battery and disabling anything to do with floppy in the BIOS but it sometimes still displays the Hooking bootstrap error and has yet to actually load windows. The screen just goes black and the computer makes a constant hum like its actually doing something. I have switched IDE cables and don't have a windows xp cd for about another week when my parents come up.
How to make a bootable disk? I am trying to get into DOS when starting Windows 2000, then use Ghost to copy my entire harddrive.
View 6 Replies View Relatedafter removing and reformating HD,I put HD back in my Compaq Evo D500 and it won't get past the initial recognization of the floppy drive.The floppy indicator light remains ON,and I can't seem to go beyond Strike F1 any ideas on what went wrong?I checked the connections and the memory sticks to see they were all seated right,but it doesn't count up the memory in the upper left corner at this point I'm lost!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have seen this messge twice. Once on a friends PC and just now on mine. My computer has been running for maybe... 3 days straight now. I turned it off for about 3 hours to keep my room cool. I turned it back on an heard "beep...beep...beep...beep" (the same beep you hear if the ram isn't snapped in the socket all the way) and at the boot up it said "Primary slave hard disk fail" XP would not start. So i hit the reset button, same thing, hit it again, same thing. Powered off and powered back on and it started up fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is my problem:When I started my computer a couple of days ago the screen stayed black and had the mouse pointer on it. I waited a few minutes but nothing happened. I rebooted and the same thing happened. I hit restart and pressed the Esc key ant the system started to post and stopped. This message came up Warning: System boot fail. Your system boot fail or post interrupted. Please enter setup to load default settings and reboot again.I pressed F1 and setup looked to be in order so I exited and rebooted. When that message came up I hit F2 and the system booted up ok. I tried restoring to a few different dates but that didnt solve the problem. I also made sure that I have the latest video card drivers and monitor drivers. The system wont start in safe mode either.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a computer with windows xp which continuously failed to boot fully the first go.I would have to soft boot, it would freeze on the windows loading screen and after another one or two soft boots it would finally load by selecting load windows normally.Then all works fine until the next time I turn on.I have since reformatted this machine using different windows xp and are still having the same above problems loading the first time.
View 13 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to install the si3112 driver I get an Install key fail error followed by an install driver error. I have tried to install it off both a floppy and the nvidia cd and both give me the same errors.
I have no trouble installing the si3112r driver (the raid) version' but I want to use it as my start-up drive. I have a GA-K8N PRO mobo and the drive is a WD3200ks. If I can't get it to run where can I download a replacement dirver from --with-out haveing to download a huge driver package?
Does Windows XP self boot and copy the necessary system files or do you still need a floppy disk drive like previous windows versions?

I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro
My problem is when I turn on my Dell 5100 I get a floppy disk failure message and it instructs me to hit f-1 which then allows me to boot up. I dont have a floppy disk and this is slowing start up. What can I do to fix this? I went into Bios to try and fix this, nothing has worked. Also when I attempt to start windows media center it crashes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to transfer my "favorites" from my old computer (windows 98) to my new one with windows XP. When I copy the favorites onto the floppy I can see that they are all there. BUT, when I put that floppy into my new computer it changes the favorites contents to those on the new computer. For instance: I had probably 100 sites to copy and my new computer favorites only has about 10 sites. Now those 10 sites are on the floppy and not the 100 I placed there.....I'm confused.

I orginally bought the computer to surf and now I want start playing with it. I have windows 2000. I would like to copy some programs and I can't get the floppy disk A to work. What do I do next? View 10 Replies View RelatedI'll try to remember, to the best of my ability, the sequence of events...Suffice it to say that I downloaded and tried to install something I shouldn't have. I Immediately tried to get out of the errors from AVG (free version) and stop the install. All seems good, then IE keeps opening to bogus ad sites. I realize I've got something. AVG and AdAware both fail in removing this Win32Trojan.tdss (I think AVG gave me this description). AVG tells me to reboot to remove it properly. Reboot throws me into "can't verify this installation of Windows". Boot in safe mode work, then I get the same error on reboot...even in safe mode.
I don't have the original Windows CD (separated from husband and software at the same time; cannot find any software now), but it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP Home (product key on box), but I installed XP Pro instead. Don't know what product key was used or how to get it.....

First, however, I need to create a BOOTABLE floppy on which to save the original motherboard BIOS and the flash memory writer before flashing the motherboard to the new BIOS. That way, if the new BIOS doesn't work, I can Flash the old BIOS onto my mb,. A WinXP Pro SP2 Command Prompt will not permit me to execute Format AS. Please insert disk into drive. Cancel. Try Again. Continue -Basically I either have to hit cancel or continue to make it go away...but it is still annoying to see it and it sometimes pops up periodically.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThere was a power outage at my house yesterday while I was away. When I came home my computer screen was black and displayed the message: boot disk error, insert system disk and press enter.
I tried rebooting but the message persisted (after going through the initial information about IDE stuff). I went into the bios to see if my hard drive was dead, but the bios still recognized it and my secondary hard drive. I also tried to boot from a Window XP cd and repair Windows on my master drive, but the error message came up regardless of the cd drive I used I have a CD drive and a CDRW/DVD drive. In both instances where I had the CD in one of the two CD drives, the CD was spinning and presumably being read) but I could never get the computer to boot off of it. (Note: I tried both CD drives, because my bios is set to boot off CD first, although I don't know which CD drive it actually looks at first
When i boot windows XP i very often get a A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Does anyone know what is the reason for this? It boots successfully around
30% of the times i try.
