Flashing The Bios: Creating A Bootable Floppy Disk?

I need to flash the BIOS on my motherboard. First, however, I need to create a BOOTABLE floppy on which to save the original motherboard BIOS and the flash memory writer before flashing the motherboard to the new BIOS. That way, if the new BIOS doesn't work, I can Flash the old BIOS onto my mb,. A WinXP Pro SP2 Command Prompt will not permit me to execute Format AS. So, how can I create a bootable floppy disk under WinXP Pro SP2?
I have a windows 2000 professional operating system and I need to boot from a floppy. I'm missing ntdetect.com and my original windows 2000 cd does not work. What files do I need to make my floppy disk?
I am trying reflash my bios and do not have a floppy drive available easily. I believe my mother board supports flashing with in windows but incase it fails is it possible to put the bios on a cd r instead of a floppy disk and flash it from there?if so how do I make a boot cd to allow such?
I just flashed/upgraded my BIOS for my motherboard, and now XP doesn't even boot up. After the BIOS load, I get a "MBR error 2" message and it just stays there. My board is an Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe. I used the Asus Update Utility to flash my BIOS.

I have this sony vaio laptop, and the good people at sony decided not to give this drive the ability to boot from a usb device (external dvd or floppy)Unfortunately the DVD drive that was built in BROKE, and I need to install windows on this laptop using a brand new hard drive.I can't boot from the windows dvd, I can't boot from a floppy, the drive is totally empty so I can't put anything on it.I CAN however, connect it to another computer and format it, I thought I could make it into a MSDOS bootable drive (like when you format a floppy) but windows does not allow it on a drive this size.
I am trying to get a machine up and running for a friend. It is one he bought off of someone up north and he doesn't know the admin password to be able to use it. I originally was going to use some software I found in the forums that requires me to boot from a floppy or a cd. I checked the BIOS and have it booting from the hard disk last and yet I cannot boot from either the cd or the floppy.At this point I am willing to Fdisk the whole thing and start fresh. It shouldn't really matter since he has never been on the machine before and can't have any data that he would care about.
Just got a new computer with Gigabyte GA-K8SNC-939 Motherboard. The problem is that on each boot , and shutdown, the floppy drive is accessed (i.e. motor runs ).The floppy drive is NOT selected as a boot option in the bios and the access on boot comes just after the 'Loading Personal Settings" screen. On shutdown it is just before the end , not immediately on shutdown.I seem to remember there was a Floppy Seek setting somewhere in Windows at one time, but I can't seem to find it in XP SP 2. As it happens well into the boot cycle, I don't think it's related to the motherboard.
Yesterday I was on my computer,I downloaded a codec,and afterwards I got a flashing yellow triangle and blue/red flashing circle on my bottom taskbar.I have ad subtract which is suppose to stop popups.Now I keep getting a popup from the triangle that says(System Alert:Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx and by the circle I get(System Alert popup)And Ads-Virusburst.com,The Spyguard.com,Malware Wipe.com and a ISA Monitor.exe,What the heck is going on?I went to my control panel and uninstalled everything that was downloaded in the last couple of days.I click the x on popups to close,and 30 seconds they come right back.Tried a system restore,and will not work.Any suggestions?Never had any problems in the past.
How do I reinstall Windows XP on my laptop (Compaq V5000 - which is several years old)? The laptop's cd-rom is dead. There is no floppy disk drive. The hard drive has crashed. I have read on some websites that I can make a bootable usb drive. However, I have not been succesful in making a bootable USB thumb drive when the laptop's BIOS doesnt support a USB device to be bootable.The only thing I do have is my desktop computer (which is working fine) and a USB external case for the laptop internal hard drive.
I have created a Bart PE bootable XP cd. I can boot into windows using this CD I would like to know how to copy the data in my hard disk to pen drive or flash drive.
I have ghost 2003 installed on my pc and want to create a Recovery Disc (Windows XP and installed drivers). The only problem is I have no floppy drive. Could anyone give me step by step details on how to do this. I have tried ghost boot wizard (need a floppy).I have tried Disk to Image and then Image to Disk. I wiped out all that was on the 1st drive (C) and Partition (D) and all that was on the 2nd drive (E). I don't know how it happened but it did. I have now reinstalled Windows and all the drivers but I still want to make a recovery disc.
I am trying to create a boot disk for my Windows 2000 Professional system. I saved the files boot.ini, ntdetect.com and ntldr. When I restarted my system to test the disk it told me that the boot file did not exist and it was also asking for this file ntoskrnl.exe. Now when I tried to save this file to a disk the file was to big. What can I try so I can create my boot disk.
I have recently restored my PC to it's original state as bought from the shop using the Recovery Disk supplied leaving just the Operating System.A friend wants to do the same but has no Recovery Disk. His PC was built by an independent. Is there a way of creating a recovery disk to do this or is there site to download the relevant info/software.
Since XP Pro original doesn't recognize SATA HDs, is it workable to create a install CD using Original XP Pro CD and add in SP1a and slip-stream them together on a new machine having SATA HD?Will this allow XP to recognize the HD and use it well?Similarly, same idea regarding XP HD size limit of 127 Gigs pre SP1a? Im trying to run windows xp on the sata drive,I have installed xp via bootable disk, but when attempting to load xp a blue screen pops up and says "windows was stopped from loading to prevent damage to your system" and then following an error number with lots of zeroes and threes. I have plugged the SATA drive into another computer and was able to format, partition and add and use files from it. So theres a 70% chance its not the hardrive itself.
My Pc is about 15 months Old and it does Not come with a Bootable XP Home, like they used to. The Recovery is in Partition D: and when I Re-Install XP, it will Restore Home XP and all these Unnecessary Expired stuff >> to Factory Standard. ( with all the "Add_Ons " >>> Norton , ISP, etc )How can I CREATE Bootable Disk with just Home XP on it?
I want to know if any one can tell me how to make an XP boot disk that will ask me for my raid controller drivers (F6 function during windows install) during the booting process? I am running an ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe MoBo. Installed SnapShot imaging software and made a backup image of my raid drives (stripped). Need to boot into dos and be able to see NTFS files & drives?
I am trying to update my EVGA 7800GT's BIOS as well as my motherboard's. I have done this a few months ago, same disks and everything.When I create a floppy with the required files and restart, I get the following message:"Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready."
My hard disk is going to fail.I have collected data over 3 years.The first one created successfully but, i don't know how to copy the data from hard disk to pen or flash drive. The second one also created successfully but, windows not able to boot using this disk. It boots from hard disk as usual.
Too much junk in my Hard Disk and registry so I did a complete new install of WindowsXP Home. As I was doing this and then installing all of my software I had not realized that my flash drive was plugged in and WinXP then named my Hard Disk drive F: So everything is now on drive F: and working well. In the new install, XP created my Hard Disk NTFS. Now, I used ghost to clone my Hard Disk. XP called the backup drive C: Backup finished fine, BUT, when I switch drives and put the backup in only, the computer will not boot up. I get to the blue Welcome screen and that is where is sits. I tried the ghost GhReboot.exe program, but no help.
Apparently she was trying to save some files to a floppy drive, and after several failed attempts, a "bubble" popped up (the little yellow pop-ups on the bottom right) that told her to run checkdisk on the A-drive. How does one go about accomplishing this? I've been looking around and found how to run it on the C-drive, is it any different for the A-drive?
I am trying to install a dual boot system on XP but I am unable to boot from the floppy dirve with a Windows ME bootable disk. The A drive is the first thing in the bios and it is set for 3.5, 1.44mb size disk. At the very bottom of the bootup screen, it shows "Floppy Disk Fail (40). The floppy drive works ok whenever XP is up and running in that I can put a floppy in the drive and open it and view the files, copy the files and most anything I need to do. I have read everything I can find on that error but since the drive seems to work ok other than for boot up, it has me stumped.
if someone could tell me how to format windows xp home edition from the bios and not using the xp disk. I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format can run if this volume is dismounted first. All open handles to this volume would then be invalid. would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n) so I type y for yes and hit enter then nothing
I have just purchased a Campaq Presario laptop v3607TU. It came with only "FreeDos" installed. If I boot up, it goes to the c prompt, and I can see call the directories on the hard drive. inserted my Windows XP bootable disk into the CD/DVD slot, and restarted. It booted from the CD, and the setup files begin to be read. Then I get a message that says, Setup cannot find any hard drives on your computer. The only option is F3 QUIT.
I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro
My problem is when I turn on my Dell 5100 I get a floppy disk failure message and it instructs me to hit f-1 which then allows me to boot up. I dont have a floppy disk and this is slowing start up. What can I do to fix this? I went into Bios to try and fix this, nothing has worked. Also when I attempt to start windows media center it crashes.
