Recovering To Factory HP State - Recovery Console Partition

Dec 27, 2008

I am preparing my computer for doing a full pc recovery process. I have had viruses and spyware in the past and still continuing windows errors. I want to wipe my hard drive and recover my pc back to factory HP state. I do not have any recovery discs for it. The recovery disc creator does not work and my laptop has been discontinued and they don't offer any support for it. So I will be using the recovery console partition HP has put on the computer. All of my important data is backed up to an external hard drive. Is this risky at all? Could the process error at all? I don't know if the partition could have been tampered with from all the malware and cleanups I have done to the computer. I am a little worried if something happens,

Creating A Recovery Disk

Aug 23, 2005

I have ghost 2003 installed on my pc and want to create a Recovery Disc (Windows XP and installed drivers). The only problem is I have no floppy drive. Could anyone give me step by step details on how to do this. I have tried ghost boot wizard (need a floppy).I have tried Disk to Image and then Image to Disk. I wiped out all that was on the 1st drive (C) and Partition (D) and all that was on the 2nd drive (E). I don't know how it happened but it did. I have now reinstalled Windows and all the drivers but I still want to make a recovery disc.

Recovery Partition/Disk: Using Or Recovering As New?

Oct 15, 2009

The way my recovery partition works on my netbook is when it was first used (I didnt not use it first) is it creates an image of the system when all the system has been setup then when ever I have to use the recovery it used that image to just overwirte and replace everything.I have access to the partition where the Recovery is stored and I have my Recovery Disk but as its a netbook I have no Drive, I can copy the disk files onto my Pen drive (if my pen drive is big enough)

I want to know if there is anyway I can change it so I can use the recovery and do it from scratch like when it was first turned on (first use) because there are setting there and other items that I want to change. If I could do it by editing the files in the partition that would be easier but I can try and use the disk if needs be?

Creating Recovery CD For - Automatic Streaming

Nov 5, 2007

As per advice received here, I would like to create a Recovery CD including SP2 and all more recent updates received from Microsoft. However, it appears that you may not be able to do so unless you have an XP Operating System CD. Most computers come without such a creature unfortunately and neither of my systems have them.
Is it possible to create such a Recovery disk using the OS Recovery CD which came with my Compaq/HP laptop?Or else, is it possible to copy just the SP2 plus all other Microsoft downloads without having to manually execute each and every file?

Backup Copy To Disk Of An Installed The Same As Original Install Disk?

Jul 18, 2008

I have been looking on Ebay at used/refurbished computers for upgrading from my current and older P4 chip computer. One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk. If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?

Reformatting / Partitions - System Recovery / Restore Original

Aug 6, 2005

My Pc has been come crippled with large amounts of spyware that make using the PC more and more diffcult each day. I was planning to complete a full system reformat, or system recovery as my manufacturer describes it. The PC was shipped with two drive C and D, both being a partition of one hard drive. I also added 3 further partitions to D, which means there are actually 5 drives. The computer manual says that when performing a system recovery, you can select to just recover the C partition, but it says that a recovery will provide an image of the PC's software when shipped, so does this mean it will restore the original partitions and lose my current partitions?

Recovering Hard Disk Capacity

Sep 2, 2007

A year ago, I was having ME/XP opr sys problems and reformatted my HD. Being cute, I formatted into a 29 G section and an 8 G HD and put ME upgraded to XP in the 8 and all 'personal' and controllable programs into the 29G section "C". All photos and video are in the 29G section. The 29G section has 23G free. The 8G "D" has filled up (careless on loading software, etc). I have now deleted programs, looked for large files, emptied trash, etc to try to get back to Opr Sys files only (as best I can determine). No matter what I do the free space seems to shrink. Now 7.97 G. total, 472 M free. I have XP and 97? office. Except for deleted programs (I have the discs), everything seems to work, although slow.

Hard Disk Corrupt: Recovering Data ?

Sep 4, 2005

I can recovering my data from a hard drive I've recently corrupted . Whilst in the process of moving/renaming partitions I've managed to corrupt my harddrive which contains an xp operating system, four partitions and 150 gigabytes of movies etc. I've now installed xp on my other drive but it wont recognise the other one. Infact its not recognising the other disc or its patitions at all, even thru windows recovery 'chkdsk' where it just says disk it unformatted. Norton disc doctor at least recognised the disc as corrupted (and unformatted) and declares a bad partion table but is unable to fix it. I think my data is probably lost for good and I'm going to have to reformat

Recovering Data Back From NTFS Hard Disk?

Sep 16, 2006

I am having a problem with my 400GB HDD not displaying correctly - it displays as 127GB - in a new install of Windows XP on a seperate drive. My original setup was as follows:400GB SATA HDD with Windows XP as the Operating System plus Data - Single Partition - NTFS. 300GB SATA HDD with purely data - Single Partition - NTFS.I bought a new HDD today (SATA 320GB) and installed it in the PC. The original XP install saw it was installed and offered formatting options from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management - no formatting options were taken.I then installed Windows XP (non-SP2 install, SP2 has been installed afterwards along with Video Card and Motherboard drivers) to the new HDD without removing the old drives first.

Also I DO NOT have my original restore disk, but I have the option to just use the in-system restore option, or create disk. Should I create or does it not matter? Also how can I restore the system completely, the last time i did "Complete Restore" there were still unwanted files in the PC.

Hal.dll Fix Without Recovery Disk

Jul 26, 2009

All you need is a laptop or a pc with hal.dll error and another laptop or cpu running any other os....ok here we go all you need is a usb or flash drive 256 mb and sometimes mabee smaller.. now download slax 6.1.1 ( small stripped down version of linux capable of booting fully from usb) just extract it to the usb drive and run the bootinst file ( if using vista u need to go to cmd first then type the usb drive (ex.. d: ) then enter then type boot cd enter then bootinst.bat .....once the file opens continue with instructions and your almost there... Now put the usb into the pc or laptop with hal.dll error ..... when boot menu is up type watever it says (like hit the f key for boot order or boot menue or something) when u hit the f key then change boot order to usb hard drive to the 1 slot and save and exit....now onlmost there just start the computer and let slax boot this will take a few minutes and if the letters on the screene stop just wait it out for a couple of minutes.

New Laptop With Pro No Recovery Disk

Oct 1, 2008

My old laptop died and I now have a brand new, factory sealed Toshiba Satellite Pro, model L300. It came with trial versions of MS Office. I don't want to use the trial version since I have a perfectly good version that I porchased a few years ago. (It's the Teacher and student Edition 2003.) At first I tried installing the 2003 version that I own. It seems to go through the install procedure to the end, but when I try to open OUTLOOK, I get an error that states the MAPI32.DLL" is corrupt.

I spoke with Toshiba but they were not a great help. The told me to go the ADD?Remove and remove the MSOFFICE trial version, which I did. I also removed the 2003 Version
so that I could "start from scratch", so to speak, trying to keep things "graceful".
The same error occurs after installing the 2003 software, and oddly, some of the
2007 software still seems to be there!. Probably residing in the registry somewhere.
