Recovering Remaining Disk Space
May 7, 2006I have a 320G hard drive but Xp's just showing 127G after I clean installed due to system crash.Does any one know how I can go about recovering the remaining space?

Recovery Partition/Disk: Using Or Recovering As New?
Oct 15, 2009The way my recovery partition works on my netbook is when it was first used (I didnt not use it first) is it creates an image of the system when all the system has been setup then when ever I have to use the recovery it used that image to just overwirte and replace everything.I have access to the partition where the Recovery is stored and I have my Recovery Disk but as its a netbook I have no Drive, I can copy the disk files onto my Pen drive (if my pen drive is big enough)
I want to know if there is anyway I can change it so I can use the recovery and do it from scratch like when it was first turned on (first use) because there are setting there and other items that I want to change. If I could do it by editing the files in the partition that would be easier but I can try and use the disk if needs be?
Recovering Hard Disk Capacity
Sep 2, 2007A year ago, I was having ME/XP opr sys problems and reformatted my HD. Being cute, I formatted into a 29 G section and an 8 G HD and put ME upgraded to XP in the 8 and all 'personal' and controllable programs into the 29G section "C". All photos and video are in the 29G section. The 29G section has 23G free. The 8G "D" has filled up (careless on loading software, etc). I have now deleted programs, looked for large files, emptied trash, etc to try to get back to Opr Sys files only (as best I can determine). No matter what I do the free space seems to shrink. Now 7.97 G. total, 472 M free. I have XP and 97? office. Except for deleted programs (I have the discs), everything seems to work, although slow.

Sep 4, 2005I can recovering my data from a hard drive I've recently corrupted . Whilst in the process of moving/renaming partitions I've managed to corrupt my harddrive which contains an xp operating system, four partitions and 150 gigabytes of movies etc. I've now installed xp on my other drive but it wont recognise the other one. Infact its not recognising the other disc or its patitions at all, even thru windows recovery 'chkdsk' where it just says disk it unformatted. Norton disc doctor at least recognised the disc as corrupted (and unformatted) and declares a bad partion table but is unable to fix it. I think my data is probably lost for good and I'm going to have to reformat

Mar 31, 2007I don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

Apr 28, 2007how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.

My original setup was as follows:400GB SATA HDD with Windows XP as the Operating System plus Data - Single Partition - NTFS. 300GB SATA HDD with purely data - Single Partition - NTFS.I bought a new HDD today (SATA 320GB) and installed it in the PC. The original XP install saw it was installed and offered formatting options from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management - no formatting options were taken.I then installed Windows XP (non-SP2 install, SP2 has been installed afterwards along with Video Card and Motherboard drivers) to the new HDD without removing the old drives first.

15GB Free Space And It Shows Not Enough Disk Space?
Aug 13, 2007i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
Installation Freezes At 34 Minutes Remaining?
Mar 26, 2008I have been trying to complete a clean install of XP and it gets stuck at 34 minutes remaining. I have read that many people have had this problem and I thought that I found the solution in a forum. Someone said that when it gets stuck to remove the cd, open a cmd prompt and type setupapi.log. Then review the end of the log looking for a .inf extension which will be the device causing the problem. Then it says to close the notepad and go to c:/windows/inf this command doesn't work. can anyone help me? It says that I need to delete the file containing the .inf extension

Hard Disk Error - No Disk Space
Aug 15, 2008Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

May 24, 2008Computer has been really low on disk space for a long time. ATF Cleaner IT worked great, took off all temp files and such, all useless stuff that stays on your computer.
I've tried a disk cleanup that apears when space is low but it does pretty much nothing. I only have a 30G HD, but still, that cant possibly take it all up, I have only 19.3 mb left!

Oct 7, 2008I kept my pc running over night and when I woke up the free space in my drive c(contains os) was 700kb. It had dropped from 8gb. I checked system restore I thought it might have made a backup but that was not the case. I did find though a bunch .sqm files in my c drive. I've heard they can be related to live messenger and operation flashpoint ( a game). I have flashpoints sequel and live messenger. I haven't used either in several days. I did defragment the drive one day before this occurred. Can someone please tell me where all that space has gone to?
