What's Using My Disk Space?
Apr 11, 2008
Laptop has 4GB. I defragmented the C disk several times over the last couple of year. Now the used disk space has crept up to nearly that, leaving only 200-300MB at any one time. I have nothing unusual as far as programs go, and I do not have a media player or anything like that hooked up,
At 200-300MB, there is no ability to defragment. I use a CCleaner, and Eusing Registry Cleaner regularly. Wher

I don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.

Recently ive been getting the yellow triangle icon with an ''!'' in it, saying that I have very low disk space. Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.

It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and ive been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

Computer has been really low on disk space for a long time. ATF Cleaner IT worked great, took off all temp files and such, all useless stuff that stays on your computer.
I've tried a disk cleanup that apears when space is low but it does pretty much nothing. I only have a 30G HD, but still, that cant possibly take it all up, I have only 19.3 mb left!

I kept my pc running over night and when I woke up the free space in my drive c(contains os) was 700kb. It had dropped from 8gb. I checked system restore I thought it might have made a backup but that was not the case. I did find though a bunch .sqm files in my c drive. I've heard they can be related to live messenger and operation flashpoint ( a game). I have flashpoints sequel and live messenger. I haven't used either in several days. I did defragment the drive one day before this occurred. Can someone please tell me where all that space has gone to?

drive C: size is 19.6 GB. The free space keeps changing, which, PF usage is shown to be always upwards of 1.4 GB on the Task Manager. this is slowing down most other programs. I tried various 'cleanup' utilities and also did Virus/Malware scans, which turned up nothing. I also created an alternate Page file on another one of my big partitions, but this does not seem to have any effect. My startup is always slow, and so are application startups.

For several months now, my home computer has been running on "low disk space." It would cause things to slow down or web pages to not load properly. We would free up space by removing programs or files and within a matter of hours it would all be full again. Eventually we got to the point of having 0 disk space. I have, once again freed up space by deleting programs and files that we did not need and that space has gradually been eaten up by something. Now, we are at a point where if we are online... lets say Facebook just for example... we can look at messages we have, write a new message, but when you try to submit said message the computer doesn't even act like you've clicked anything at all. We can't send e-mails, send messages, delete emails or messages... as a matter of fact, as I write this I am unsure that I will be able to submit it. I am also having trouble searching for things using "search" on my computer. The window opens as a blank window. When I try to open "help & support" it doesn't even attempt to open it. This computer is a Sony Vaio. Our internet connection is DSL. We are running Windows XP Home. I have continuously run clean disk and deleted browsing history in IE. (IE7, by the way).

Windows XP Home Ed. SP 2, 40 gig HD. Something got corrupted on my OS and it hung on the light blue Welcome page. Hitting F8 on restart didn't work since it wouldn't reboot in any of the 8 or 10 safe mode options (I've forgotten their names, but I tried everyone of them repeatedly). Finally just by chance I hit F10 on restart and it got me to the D partition where the XP software was stored (don't have the disks, computer came this way). I called a techie and he walked me thru the way to do a "repair" rather than a reinstall and it worked great except for one thing. Of the 33 gigs in partition C, I had only used 16. After the repair, my C partition was full, only 1 gig free. It seemed to have doubled everything and yet I can find no evidence of duplicate files.

Im nto very good with computers, and I have this big problem that I think has a very simple solution. Ok well, for the past month or so, ive had this little icon pop up in the bottom right corner of my screen, saying I have very low disk space. Ive gone in and deleted a whole bunch of crap but the next day its just full again. Its weird because I barely have any programs on my computer. I have a 30gb hard drive, and all I have on the computer is one game, itunes, the basic windows applications and norton anti virus. I just dont see how that takes up 29.9 gb of space. I have been suggested to do a system restore, but I was told it wont do much because something is at ''max''.

You are running out of disk space on Local Disk (F). To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here.I get this message, like, 10 times a day. When I try to resolve it in the way it suggests - which is to delete unneeded files, I can't do anything because it looks like all the files are necessary. There are only a few files on the disk. The disk is, according to the information I get when I check on disk usage, full. There is almost no room left on it.
