I have created a Bart PE bootable XP cd. I can boot into windows using this CD I would like to know how to copy the data in my hard disk to pen drive or flash drive.

Can I, or how do I transfer the cloned data from the external (pata) to the new internal hard drive (sata)? I think the HDD I have now is dying, and I would like to have a hard drive I can just pop in which has all the information I have now. I have heard horror stories about Norton Ghost, so I'm hesitant there. I also bought a product called Drivecopy...BEFORE I learned that it is not compatible with XP Pro. Ghost and Drivecopy are both PowerQuest products. I have been told that if you simply copy one drive to another it will not be bootable because of some hidden/missing files that Windows uses. I have also heard that most products which are SUPPOSED to do what I want will only work on drives the exact same size and will duplicate my smaller partition if I go to a larger drive. There MUST be an easy way, but I'm stumped.

As I was doing this and then installing all of my software I had not realized that my flash drive was plugged in and WinXP then named my Hard Disk drive F: So everything is now on drive F: and working well. In the new install, XP created my Hard Disk NTFS. Now, I used ghost to clone my Hard Disk. XP called the backup drive C: Backup finished fine, BUT, when I switch drives and put the backup in only, the computer will not boot up. I get to the blue Welcome screen and that is where is sits. I tried the ghost GhReboot.exe program, but no help.

Whilst in the process of moving/renaming partitions I've managed to corrupt my harddrive which contains an xp operating system, four partitions and 150 gigabytes of movies etc. I've now installed xp on my other drive but it wont recognise the other one. Infact its not recognising the other disc or its patitions at all, even thru windows recovery 'chkdsk' where it just says disk it unformatted. Norton disc doctor at least recognised the disc as corrupted (and unformatted) and declares a bad partion table but is unable to fix it. I think my data is probably lost for good and I'm going to have to reformat

My original setup was as follows:400GB SATA HDD with Windows XP as the Operating System plus Data - Single Partition - NTFS. 300GB SATA HDD with purely data - Single Partition - NTFS.I bought a new HDD today (SATA 320GB) and installed it in the PC. The original XP install saw it was installed and offered formatting options from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management - no formatting options were taken.I then installed Windows XP (non-SP2 install, SP2 has been installed afterwards along with Video Card and Motherboard drivers) to the new HDD without removing the old drives first.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the problem in which I'm currently in. I saved roughly about 15Gs worth of music and numerous pictures in my documents. Well since then I've changed the h.d, motherboard, and a few other things and installed a fresh copy of windows on the alternate h.d. well with the first h.d set as a slave and no means of going back to my original setup because i deleted most of everything on the h.d except a few folders it won't give me access to those folders. I'm wondering is there anyway of gaining access to those folder?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI get this cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy files from a DVD-RW onto my hard drive. I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. Is there any way I can recover these files?

Ever since then, my laptop PC was unable to recognize the unit, but the Mac (which is not working right now, unfortunately) never had a problem with it. When I connect it to my laptop PC via USB, the USB icon shows up and the "USB Mass Storage Device Properties" says the "device is working properly." But the folder doesn't show up in My Computer, and diskmgmt.msc says the device is "Unallocated." Hopefully that doesn't mean the unit crashed because I have some stuff on there.Without losing the data (that should be on it, unless it crashed), I want to convert this thing to NTFS. I did some Google searching, but the instructions on how to do this (they say use convert.exe) aren't working. Moreover, no one mentioned how to convert an External, secondary HD.

The fee space indicated by windows explorer indicates I have 19GB but when I add all the directory sizes together it only comes to 90GB. I have checked "Show hidden files and directories" and also ran a virus scan.I remember reading an article about how hackers can use disk on remote hosts and hide the data but have no idea how to check this, also I may be barking up the wrong tree.

I have put a disk in the drive, highlighted the file, clicked on "send to", and I get the message: "Please insert a disk into Drive E (or F, whichever I happen to try it with)".The drives won't recognize that there is a blank CD. If I put in an audio CD or a DVD, it recognizes it, and plays it fine. It's just the blank ones that are giving me a problem. I have tried several different brands of CD . . . same result . . . One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk. If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?

Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . How to take a copy of the os and copy in the new hard disk. I have the serial number etc for the OS.
It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to run windows xp on the sata drive,I have installed xp via bootable disk, but when attempting to load xp a blue screen pops up and says "windows was stopped from loading to prevent damage to your system" and then following an error number with lots of zeroes and threes. I have plugged the SATA drive into another computer and was able to format, partition and add and use files from it. So theres a 70% chance its not the hardrive itself.

I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format can run if this volume is dismounted first. All open handles to this volume would then be invalid. would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n) so I type y for yes and hit enter then nothing
I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWow, this is kind of odd I ran disk cleanup and noticed that the size of the temporary files it wants to delete totals about 56 GBs, which is pretty much everything on my HD.It did this once before, only it just deleted Windows, which is pretty ironic.I've tried running chkdsk with the r parameter, and it found nothing, so I'm not sure exactly what to do with a Windows-specific issue like this, especially seeing as I have no restore points other than the latest one, which was just before I found this all out. Reformatting is NOT an option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOK,i need some help here,after changing desktop casing,I noticed that my 2nd IDE Hard drive/HD is not on "My Computer",check on the Device manager HD is present and when i tried to see the details of my HD on Disk Management HD is not present,so I've rebooted HD is present in BIOS.Things I did:1.Fix windows using recovery console2.Connect/reconnect cables3.Check if HD is still working(100% sure it's working)4.Updated driversAdditional info's"HD is Seagate Barracuda(Master-Slave set up), OS Windows XP sp3**Please note that i can't see the HD on my disk management like any other people would do to fix this problem***If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. I'm going to attempt trying the drive on a different IDE hannel, and see if that works.
