I want to copy files from my hard drive to my dvd writer.InCD screws this up.I want to be able to open windows explorer and move/copy]selected files to a dvd. I then want to be able to read the files direct from the dvd using windows explorer.
View 11 RepliesI get this cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy files from a DVD-RW onto my hard drive. I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. Is there any way I can recover these files?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI had bought several hard drives as is, hoping one of them would work. thought I had one, but turned out I couldn't install XP onto the disk, wouldn't copy any files. so I pretty much cut my loss on the drives and removed it the bad one from pc. now I get 2 options when booting windows. my original xp install, and the 2nd install that still needs to complete, how can I stop it from wanting to install xp again from the boot file and keep the original settings as they were?

When i try to just uncheck the "Encrypt contents to secure data" box i get the error
Recommend me a free program to basically copy files from windows to the portable hard drive? I don't need compression, and I don't want the entire backup in one file, like .zip or .bkf. Normally I would just copy the files over, but I would lose the timestamps and all the attributes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell computer where one of the loading .dll files came up 'missing' one day, so it won't boot. I want to get all the photos and other docs off the hard drive. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.

However, I came to find out you can only have one computer assigned to each cd, unless I wanna buy another one, which is unecessary. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Win XP Pro SP2 I also have an external Lacie 250GB hard disk I want to store my Virtual PC files on. But, it is formatted at FAT32 and I can't put a file on there that is over 4GB. So, I tried to convert the drive to NTFS, but Windows won't let me do this. It keeps telling me the disk is dirty and to run chkdsk / f. Which I have done and completes fine finding no problems on the drive. Yet convert e: /fs:NTFS still does not convert the drive reporting it is dirty. What is causing this and how do I fix it? I have tons of data on the drive so I can't re-partition it as I don't want to loose that data. I need to convert it to NTFS.

Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk. If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe registry on one of my computers is corrupt and if I try to copy the files from the WindowsRepair folder using the windows system repair tool, I'm told the files cannot be found. One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)

I then got an error message (not sure what it said) I closed it and another popped up and then another. After closing the 3 errors my system rebooted on it's own. After that I could not get into either of my hard drives (main or backup). Both seemed to have bad boot sectors. I formatted my main drive and am now trying to get into my backup drive but it won't even let me look at it says it's invail or coruppted? So I would like to try some hard disk recovery programs but I'm not sure what else is out there. I just tried acronis and it won't read that drive. I'm not sure what happened but it took out both of the drives.

When I put in the windows XP disc, it says that it cannot find the hard disc. What does this mean? One of the geek squad guys told me that you can't install xp on hdmi laptops. I'm pretty sure my laptop is hdmi.

I'm having a problem with the PC in that although I use an external hard drive to make sure the PC hard drive is not full and have very little saved on the actual PC, when I look in properties on the 'C' drive by right clicking on the 'C' drive icon, it is showing that there is 118GB used and only 26.1GB free space (total capacity 144GB). But when I go into the 'C' drive and manually explore all the different folders, there is nowhere near this much space used. Probably less than 5Gb that I can account for. I think it is drastically slowing my system, and also every few days I get a message that my computers performance is degraded and that I should defragment. I was under the impression that you didn't need to defragment anywhere near this frequently....

the guys here tell me to put the files of the 965_965L on the floopy without the foler imself. so in the 965_965L folder i have two files "SISRAID and "TXTSETUP.OEM" and aonter folder calld "raid" and in it i have to folders "winxp" and "win2000" and each folder has its own file. so what i do was to put only the "TXTSETUP.OEM" file on the floopy without noting else cause someone here tell me it all i need to do......
Dumped Vista and installed XPP. Went smoothly, except get this message on start-up. Adapter 1 -no array defined -no hard disc detected continues on and windows starts, no problem.
Oem disc auto partions any hdd as 16GB os fat 32/D:\ drive NTFS raw. The Sony OEM disc(s) are pre sp1.
What steps do I take to install and get the full 200 GB to bea recoginized correctly?
