I live with went on a rampage and felt like throwing my desktop around. Anyways, when I go to boot it up and use the Boot disc (XP Home Edition) It goes through but says it can't find the hard drive. Can someone please tell me how to fix this. I know how to open the case of my computer and everything.
Every 3-4days my computer would freeze up while booting up at windows XP screen and scroll bars would freeze. What bohers me about this is i am sure what could be causing this. I use avg as my antivirus, and run A2, spybot, regcleaner, tweaknow on a weekly basis. I keep my system really clean, so now i am wondering is it my HD. PC: Win XP-PRO, 800MHZ AMD Athlon, 1024mb,80gHD. I did what cleaning i could in safemode, it still freeze on scroll bars. I tried last good config, result is the same. The last time i got pass the freezing was by doing a restore.
I have a Compaq Presario 900 which doesn't have a working CDrom drive.I took my harddrive out and put it in my friends Dell Inspiron B130 and installed Windows xp SP2. Now that all works fine but(there is always a but ....) when I tried to put the harddrive back into my laptop(Presario 900) Windows will not boot, even if I go to safemode first thing. I thought maybe I could install Windows from the USB port but my BIOS doesn't have a BOOT FROM USB option. Also there is no Bios update that will give me that option.I have tried deleting and installing all the drivers for the Presario then trying to boot like that but it still gets stuck.
My friend has a laptop, and the power supply went on it. He gave me his hard drive, so I can back up his data. I removed the hard drive in my laptop, and installed his. When I boot I get a blue screen that says remove any newly installed hard drive or controllers. I cant get windows to boot, so that I can backup the data.
I recently did a virus scan on my cpu and deleted an important system function now i get a system error c0000218 (Registry File not found)
So i have the windows xp cd but my drive hasnt been readin anything lately ! it wont boot it at all. i dont know what to do. my drive isnt dead i dont think it still makes noise and opens and closes on command and it lights up still. i need to get my drive to work so i can fix my hard drive.
I am stuck in a odd situation with my laptop. It's now gotten to the point where I just want to do a repair of Windows and hope that fixes things, but whenever I boot into my Windows XP CD, it says that it can't find any hard drives on my laptop. I can still boot into safe mode and access my files, so my hard drive is obviously there. Is there a way to initiate a windows repair WITHOUT booting into the CD? Or, can anyone think of why my CD can't find my hard drive?
i have the window xp disc which is bootable and could bring me to the recovery screen and all. everytime i insert the disc , at the start up it would says "press enter to go to windows setup" or something like that. however the disc is not responding and does not display that statement and it just bring me straight to my desktop. i need to go to the window set up as i need to reformat my harddisk and i usually does it by deleating the partition space.
After putting the windows XP CD in and rebooting, now whenever the computer is restarted I get the blue screen that says unable to find disc press F3 to exit setup. How do I stop this so computer will reboot normally?
The other day I jumped on my computer and double clicked the icon of a program I wanted to use. I then got an error message (not sure what it said) I closed it and another popped up and then another. After closing the 3 errors my system rebooted on it's own. After that I could not get into either of my hard drives (main or backup). Both seemed to have bad boot sectors. I formatted my main drive and am now trying to get into my backup drive but it won't even let me look at it says it's invail or coruppted? So I would like to try some hard disk recovery programs but I'm not sure what else is out there. I just tried acronis and it won't read that drive. I'm not sure what happened but it took out both of the drives.
want specific instructions on how to reformat a secondary hard drive without having the xp disc. never done this before. used to have son do all my hard drive installation work but he moved far away. i have complete system restore discs for first hard drive but does not recognize my secondary hard drive; found this out when reinstalling/doing complete system recovery on first hard drive. of course i backed up all my important information from both drives. i want to reformat second hard drive due to several reasons. One, i want to start off fresh. Two, there is a lot of junk on there i no longer want or need or use.
I bought a dv2660se hp laptop (which had vista home on it). I used G-parted to destroy all partitions including the tiny back-up partition. When I put in the windows XP disc, it says that it cannot find the hard disc. What does this mean? One of the geek squad guys told me that you can't install xp on hdmi laptops. I'm pretty sure my laptop is hdmi.
i used my maxblast disc to clean my hard drive now that i try 2 reinstall windows back everything i try fail i changed the bios to boot from cd rom and floppy [i have the 6 disks of xp bootables what do i do now i cant get anything to work
I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre PC, with windows XP. I'm having a problem with the PC in that although I use an external hard drive to make sure the PC hard drive is not full and have very little saved on the actual PC, when I look in properties on the 'C' drive by right clicking on the 'C' drive icon, it is showing that there is 118GB used and only 26.1GB free space (total capacity 144GB). But when I go into the 'C' drive and manually explore all the different folders, there is nowhere near this much space used. Probably less than 5Gb that I can account for. I think it is drastically slowing my system, and also every few days I get a message that my computers performance is degraded and that I should defragment. I was under the impression that you didn't need to defragment anywhere near this frequently....
I want to copy files from my hard drive to my dvd writer.InCD screws this up.I want to be able to open windows explorer and move/copy]selected files to a dvd. I then want to be able to read the files direct from the dvd using windows explorer.
My daughters computer is giving me a Grub hard disc error message everytime I try to boot up the pc, and now the pc will not start up past this error message. I tried rebooting a few times but it just kept giving me this error and then would not go further.
well this is my first computer i built so i'm a little inexpierianced but here's the problem i powered on my computer and put in the xp disc i boot it up from the disc and so the disc is installing xp it says windows is starting up for about 15 seconds the screen goes black and i get the bsod. it talks about my i get the error code : stop: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) i've found what these mean but not wha
i have a p5s800-vm mother board of asus and the setup of windows xp (pro-sp2) dont find my hard disc and i need to make a floopy from the drivers on the disc to help it found the hard disc. that what i do to make that floopy (as some nice guys here tell me to) i go to the drivers folder on the disc of the motherbord than chose "raid" folder in it i chose the floopyimage folder there i have 3 folders
1.964plus180(181) 2.964_180 3.965_965L
the guys here tell me to put the files of the 965_965L on the floopy without the foler imself. so in the 965_965L folder i have two files "SISRAID and "TXTSETUP.OEM" and aonter folder calld "raid" and in it i have to folders "winxp" and "win2000" and each folder has its own file. so what i do was to put only the "TXTSETUP.OEM" file on the floopy without noting else cause someone here tell me it all i need to do......

I was wondering if there is any way to boot my new Windows XP computer off of an old Windows 98 Hard Drive without screwing anything up. What I am trying to do is access and run a program that was installed on the WIN 98 Hard Drive. The software was an expensive Patent Software and I no longer have the installation disk. Here is what I have already tried:1. Connected the WIN98 hard drive to my XP Computer and booted up. Computer started to boot into WIN98 but came back with some kind of memory error and shut down.2. Tried running the software from the WIN98 Drive in WINXP but came back with an error about missing DLL files.Someone mentioned running the drive as a virtual machine.
I think I have a simple question....maybe not. All I want to do is boot to XP home located on different drives, one older, one newer but both with SP2Just built new computer (first time builder) I installed three hard drives, drive H is a new boot disk with XP home, drive C is a storage disk from old computer and disk L is the older boot disk with XP home (reformatted within the past year). The MB assigned the drive letters, not me.H and C are slave and master on Primary IDE, L is Master attached to a PCI card.I want to boot from L. Boot sequence does not recognize L but it does offer the option of booting from OTHER DEVICE so I disable all drives (including H,C and two dvd drives) but it still boots to the new H drive. The bios does not recognize drive L (I guess cause its attached to the PCI card?). My thinking is that if I set up L directly to MB and switch one of the DVD drives to the PCI card it will work.If I do that then I think the MB will recognize drive L and allow me to set it up in the boot sequence the same way that the new drive works.I don't know what I should worry about BUT I am sure that I don't know what will go wrong.
Dumped Vista and installed XPP. Went smoothly, except get this message on start-up. Adapter 1 -no array defined -no hard disc detected continues on and windows starts, no problem.
Oem disc auto partions any hdd as 16GB os fat 32/D:\ drive NTFS raw. The Sony OEM disc(s) are pre sp1. What steps do I take to install and get the full 200 GB to bea recoginized correctly?
I created a mess (but I'm learning more each day), and after a week got it going at least, but on boot got messagae "primary hard disc drive 1 not found" which required clicking F1 to continue. I ended up reinstalling XP, got everything up and running, but still have the HD message at each boot. I've passed all of the diagnostics in Set-Up, and found nothing on any of the troubleshooting sites that helped. Set-up says: Primary Drive 0 - Hard Drive; Primary Drive 1 - Unknown Device; Secondary Drives 0 adn 1 are both CD-ROM Readers. Everything works just fine, but I'd like to figure the drive problem. I had to create a partition for the reinstall - had no choice.
only 1 user, 33 processes, ewido and adaware SE scanned free -- but simply opening a word doc made the system hang over and over. Found I could open and print by running Word and opening the files from the 'open file menu' -- did this 12 times, fine. But try to double-click the same file that just printed -- hangs (and same for other files e.g. image files). the Folder showed on two lines in TaskManager Applications ''Not responding'' and no other applications; I did try cleaning registry ist time ever in nearly 4yo computer, restart seemed fine. But still hung on any particular file even with other applications (ie not just Word). Defragged but no better. Then thought of ChkDsk....It asked for restart to access certain windows files......now I canot tell whether CHKDSK is doing something or its just stuck in failing to boot.
basically I need to know how to make a pc boot from the HD and install XP by copying the XP CD to the HD. Details & reason below:I've formatted the hard drive on a a friends emachine (by putting the HD into my machine) due to mess with viruses etc.Put HD back into e machine and tried to install XP from an OEM XP CD (genuine windows) - it boots and starts install, copying files to the hard drive fine but when it reboots it doesn't continue the install, but just goes back to the start, wanting to copy the files again. So what I'm going to do is put the HD back in my machine, copy the XP CD to a partition on the HD and then put it back in the machine, boot from HD and install XP all from HD. Question is- how do I get it to boot from the hard drive and start the install?I don't have a floppy boot disk or a floppy drive on my machine to make floppy boot disk. I can set the machine to boot from the HD 1st, that's no problem, just don't know how to set up the HD to let it boot from that so I can run the windows install which will be on the partition on the HD.
I was working on the computer yesterday when it froze up on me. I didn't think much of it, so I rebooted and continued what I was doing. Later that same day, the computer locked up about 2-3 more times. Then I started hearing ticking noises coming from inside. I shut it off after it froze again. When I powered it back on, the screen during bootup that displays my Hard drive's status (I have four HDs, paired up with one another), says that the first set of hard drives (which is where the OS is on) is healthy, and on the other set, it gets an error with red text. I rebooted, and sure enough, they were both healthy again.
This is where it messes up. It starting loading the Windows logo, with the progress bar. The next thing it does is go black. It doesn't boot at all after that. I have to reboot everytime. I then tried to boot in safe mode. Black screen again. I tried all the possible options in the boot menu, none of them worked. That's where my first problem takes off. So I now have a non-booting OS. The next thing I do is insert the Windows boot disk, and installed Windows XP on the same HD the original OS was on (Don't ask why, I don't know either). After the installation, Windows booted up fine, except I was running on a fresh install. Which how I'm on this site...........
Windows XP SP2.I have recebtlky suffered from various Malware and suddenly I have a message Invalid boot.ini booting from C:windows. When I try to recover from CD I get a message that it doesn't recognise the hard drive. Theerefore no restore. I can use my PC but it will re-boot sporadically.
I'm having a problem with a laptop that will not boot up.
Lenovo 3000 C100 Windows XP Home
After powering it it up it seems like it does not recognize that the hard drive is there so XP does not boot. No error message. It brings up a Boot Device menu screen with the options to boot from Floppy (does not have one), HardDisk (does not work), CD-ROM or PXE. Choosing HardDisk does not work.
In the BIOS screen the hard disk has the status: "Disable" and there does not seem to be a way to change that. In the BIOS boot sequence the hard disk appears as it should. I've tried reordering the sequence but it makes no difference
I didn't open any suspicious emails, shared on P2P networks and certainly made no changes in system files. Only thing I did was what I do periodically. I defragged my hard drive, uninstalled games and went into msconfig and stopped 3 programs from start up (DEAMON tools, PowerISO and SQL service) I was also having problems with the SpyCop package so I uninstalled and reinstalled.
So I restarted (like I should) and the only process it goes through is the DELL start up "splash screen" After that it usually does the Windows XP "splash screen" but it never does the Windows XP screen, it just stays black, nothing. I pressed F2 to see if anything changed and nothing seemed to, as far as I know. I tried F8 to enter safe mode and a couple lines of text show up and stop and hang. I even tried to let it sit there to see if maybe it's just getting used to the defrag job(s) I did, still black. It's still black as I type this.
I had a two seperate versions of windows installed on two seperate hard drives, when i turn the computer on it asks me which one i want to boot from. well the second hard drive is now dying and somtimes it tells me DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT BOOT DISK AND PRESS ENTER. now this only happends when the second hard drive doesnt work. I have tried to just unplug the second drive to see if it would boot off of the original copy on the first drive but i get the same thing.
