View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using XP and would like to regularly transfer files as a backup to a usb stick. As the capacity of the USB stick is limited, I will have to delete older backups when I run my scheduled transfer of new files. I usually have these files encrypted as they are confidential. My question is where do they go if I delete them on the USB stick? Are they ending up on my harddrive or in the recycle bin of the harddrive from where they can still be retrieved later on? Do USB sticks have their own recycle bin or some area where deleted files slumber?

I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have Win XP Pro SP2 I also have an external Lacie 250GB hard disk I want to store my Virtual PC files on. But, it is formatted at FAT32 and I can't put a file on there that is over 4GB. So, I tried to convert the drive to NTFS, but Windows won't let me do this. It keeps telling me the disk is dirty and to run chkdsk / f. Which I have done and completes fine finding no problems on the drive. Yet convert e: /fs:NTFS still does not convert the drive reporting it is dirty. What is causing this and how do I fix it? I have tons of data on the drive so I can't re-partition it as I don't want to loose that data. I need to convert it to NTFS.

But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

My disk C has only 3 GB space left but my disk D has 48GB left. How do I make D into C and vice versa? I tried moving my Garmin GPS software to disk D but it did not work. I retiurned it ti disk C and it did not work (path not found). So I tried deleting them all and reinstall the software to disk D. Now it appeared on both C and D. I tried defragmenting disk C to free up some space. After defragmenting, now it said C:Garminlahlah cannot be defragmented because 350MB of blah blah is too fragmented. But the software WORKS! Should I delete whatever Garmin that's in C? I don't know if they are related. No matter. Is disk C a system disk and D a data disk? Can they be switched?

Trust me, I have done plenty of research on how this happend but after messing with my PC for over 6hours I finally gave up!
Basically when I tried reinstalling windows the first time, I was given a choice to delete certain partitions on my HD but when I tried deleting the main partition (with the most data on it - drive C setup said there are certain files on that partition that setup needs to continue. So I figuered I have to boot from the CD. I pop in the CD, windows setup doesnt start from it. I change the boot sequence in BIOS and still, setup will not start from the CD. I can get into setup by starting one of the two windows versions however and running the XP CD by double clicking on it but that won't let me delete that one partition I am trying to get rid of.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHi, does anyone know of a method to undo the deletion of a parittion that was deleted using Disk Management in XP? Partition Magic wasn't opening correctly, so I used Disk Management to delete a 1 GB swap (logical partition, about in the middle of the physical disk) I searched around the Disk Management tool bar and didn't see anything about "undo"it deleted instantly. No down time to process...
all located within ONE primary partition at the end of physical drive, there were 3 logical partitions: one swap, two NTFS.The two logical NTFS partitions were physically behind the swap partition on the drive. (One 12 GB NTFS partition immediately behind the swap, and a 30 GB NTFS partition behind that) When the swap was instantly deleted, it also *instantly* deleted the 30 GB partition ( < 1 GB free) It left the 12 GB NTFS partition (also < 1 GB free) alone.
When I run defrag on my C drive, the program tells me that there are certain files that cannot be defragmented. When I go to delete these files, I am not able to find them on my hard drive. It tells me that the files are in C:\WINDOWSTemp but when I look in that folder no such files exist. When I check the properties of the folder, it tells me there are 4 GB in it but it only shows 4 MB worth of files. How can I delete these files when I can't find them

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to delete an old Windows file on one of my hard disks, but i never could because of the "access denied" error message. No matter what i did, they couldn't be deleted. So finally, i stumpled across a site that explained that the files need to have the right "ownership" to delete. So, i follow the instructions and set me as the owner, but it will only do that to one folder. I then have to go one by one and set the properties for each sub-folder seperatley, and there's hundreds of them. Is there any way to delete all of the files without regard to what user owns them? Or how can i make ALL files AND subfolders be set at once
