I have removed all the unneeded programs on my computer through, control panel and then add or remove programs.But whenever i restart my computer all the programs i have deleted are all on the computer, and the computer is slow as before. I have tried this plenty of times, but nothing seems to work.

(I remember when I had another version of Windows that allowed me to see what the heck was running in the background easier than the XP does--make sense?). Anyway, I think that I'm having too many programs starting up and running in the background that don't need to be. I am sure that this has been asked on this forum a bazillion times, and I've searched but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. How do I stop all of these programs from running in the background?

I went into "Add/Delete Programs", and then "Add/Remove Windows components". I mis-interpretedd the prompts and ended up deleting everything except what I wanted to. When I tried to add the functions back it asks for my Windows CD. It's been a long time since I installed windows and I find that I can't locate the CD. Any idea how I might be able to restore my system. At the moment I no longer have a working internet connection

When I go to START>RUN>"msconfig">startup tab I have many listed entries that I know are no longer needed on my computer, but have yet to find a way to delete them.
For example: My mom wanted me to download this TalkingBuddy program for my son, I did it, thought it was stupid so I uninstalled it. To me all components should be removed from the computer. However, when I go to START>RUN>"msconfig">startup tab I still see an entry for TalkingBuddy that can be checked to run at startup.
There are several other entries like this that I know I don't need and would like to know how to remove them. I also suspect that there might be some entries on there that look like they are needed but actually belong to other uninstalled or deleted programs.
Secondly, if anyone knows how to find and remove files that go to programs that linger around after you have uninstalled the program can you please tell me how to do that also. By this I mean for instance, that I have uninstalled Norton and now use Mcaffee, but there are still files that belong to symantec on my computer. I suspect that there are many other useless files from programs no longer on my computer that can also be deleted as well.
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?

There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

When I first turn on the computer yesterday, it started to beep when it did the Memory Test. Also, it kept beeping (long beeps) and can not do nothing at the desktop. View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the add remove control panel, I get a prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in C:WindowsService Pack Filesi386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for- to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says it can't find the file on the CD either. I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP computers and never had this problem before. I use the Fax Service all the time so this is sort of important for us.
