View 5 RepliesI just stumbled on to this forum searching the web to see what all those hotfix programs are on my PC. How do I know which ones I can remove from my programs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had a crash and felt like I had to reinstall XP. Obviously I didn't know what I was doing, but I did get the system installed and put programs back on that I had disks for. The problem is that I now have Norton, Nero and others on the hard drive that do not show up on the computer but when I do a scan I have to check through all those programs and they are taking up space on the drive. I cannot access any of them.

My problem is, however, the entry in Add/Remove remains but only with the name "My Way Search Assistant" and when I click on it all that shows is "Used Rarely"It has no size and no longer has any option to change or remove.I have looked for registry entries there are none is there a program listed.

View 44 Replies View RelatedI have xp home. I use word perfect 12. I installed word perfect 8 today just to see if it would help me open some files that wouldn't open in 12 (it didn't work.) View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove. But, according to the HDD the program is *still* installed. Did not find an "uninstall" or "unwise" file in the QB folder. Nor did

View 7 Replies View Relatedinternet explorer sometimes isn't listed in add/remove. Try going to add/remove windows components and unclicking internet explorer then click next then go back and reclick internet explorer and click next again. If it is listed in add/remove than just click the hange/repair button
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhat I want to do is this:
When I go to START>RUN>"msconfig">startup tab I have many listed entries that I know are no longer needed on my computer, but have yet to find a way to delete them.
For example: My mom wanted me to download this TalkingBuddy program for my son, I did it, thought it was stupid so I uninstalled it. To me all components should be removed from the computer. However, when I go to START>RUN>"msconfig">startup tab I still see an entry for TalkingBuddy that can be checked to run at startup.
There are several other entries like this that I know I don't need and would like to know how to remove them. I also suspect that there might be some entries on there that look like they are needed but actually belong to other uninstalled or deleted programs.
Secondly, if anyone knows how to find and remove files that go to programs that linger around after you have uninstalled the program can you please tell me how to do that also. By this I mean for instance, that I have uninstalled Norton and now use Mcaffee, but there are still files that belong to symantec on my computer. I suspect that there are many other useless files from programs no longer on my computer that can also be deleted as well.
How can I remove the "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" listed in the Background window under the Desktop tab? I wish to delete it but failed to find this wallpaper in the C:Windowswebwallpaper and C:Windows directories.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the add remove control panel, I get a prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in C:WindowsService Pack Filesi386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for- to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says it can't find the file on the CD either. I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP computers and never had this problem before. I use the Fax Service all the time so this is sort of important for us.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, how I'm able to uninstall Windows XP and reformat my drive to clear it out? The reason I'm doing this is because my system randomly messes up. When I first turn on the computer yesterday, it started to beep when it did the Memory Test. Also, it kept beeping (long beeps) and can not do nothing at the desktop. The only thing I can do is restart my computer. So, I unplug my keyboard, which stopped the beeping, but it messes up my computer. The one thing I can not do, is go on the internet. I check the Device Manager and the only thing it shows is "1394 Net Adapter". Ok, it uninstalled my ethernet controller.I put in my Abit Installer CD, so that I can install the ethernet controller back on. Oh what's this, I gives an error "An error occurred while launching the setup (0x80040702)." It didn't give me this error before, but the first time it gave me an error about the "ikernel.exe" not installed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe problem in a nutshell is that today when I opened up the Add/Remove Programs section in Control Center, its only displaying a few installed programs, not all of the ones I have installed.I have a few programs I dont need anymore but I cant figure out how to un-install them since they dont show up in the list.Ive tried system restore but it didnt help, and I have not "tweaked" any settings that could have caused this, im at a loss as to how this happened.Ive also ran Spybot S+D, Ad-Aware SE and did a full system virus scan with VComs System Suite 7 and all came back clean, and I deleted all the temp internet explorer files and history, cookies etc.
