Add/Remove Programs Does Not Show Change Remove Buttons
Aug 20, 2005
The majority of the applications listed in the Add/Remove Programs menu of the Control Panel no longer have the Change and/or Remove buttons visible. Is there any way I can restore these without having to do something evil like a restore?
My laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.
I have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."
"Change/Remove" button is missing for ALL installed programs. If I install a new program, it appears, but for all apps installed previously - it is gone.
Like the title says, when I run Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, some of the apps have a Change/Remove button, but some (including some I really want to uninstall) have no such button. It just has a date and says how often I use the app.
I can't remove any programs because when I open the Add/Remove programs screen, the Change/Remove buttons have disappeared. All I see is the frequency of usage of each program. I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and System Works on my PC. I called Symantec but they said, that has nothing to do with it.
I'm working on a computer with multiple issues, but one of them is that no Change, Remove, or Repair buttons are showing up in Add or Remove Programs. I've found several other posts started in other websites' forums that depict the same problem, but the best anyone can seem to do is provide a workaround. Is there actually a way to fix this problem, or is my best bet to reformat?
My computer has had this problem for quite some time now. When I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, only the recently installed programs have the Change/Remove button. How can i make this button appear for my old programs as well?
I discovered that my main computer had acquired the 'Pure Networks Platform' mess, possibly from when I installed a Linksys WRT 160n wireless router. The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. What is the trick? Safe mode and delete the folders? Search the registry manually?
I would like to remove Windows Messenger off of my laptop. The "add/remove" programs does'nt have a item for me to select to remove it. Right-clicking on the icon in the toolbar doesnt give me an option.
I want to do a clean install of the licensed version of QuickBooks 2005 CD but not until the downloaded trial is cleaned from the HDD. Back on May 15th, Laura alt.comp.software.financial.quickbooks instructed me how to do this. Finally got around to starting the process a couple weeks ago, then put it on hold again because the uninstall didn't seem to work. I'm stuck. What I did: Uninstalled QBs 2005 Trial using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. It appeared to perform the program uninstall successfully and it's no longer listed in Add/Remove. But, according to the HDD the program is *still* installed. Did not find an "uninstall" or "unwise" file in the QB folder. Nor did
I have a amd 2400 processor and i'm using windows mediacentre xp2002. I had uninstalled some programs from my system but they are still in the add-and-remove utility in the control panel. How should i remove them from there?
Running XP on a 120 gig disk. It is partitioned and I can only use 70 gb and am running out of space. Is there any way to remove the partition and be able to use the full disk without losing all my files and programs? There is nothing on the smaller partition.
When I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the add remove control panel, I get a prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in C:WindowsService Pack Filesi386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for- to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says it can't find the file on the CD either. I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP computers and never had this problem before. I use the Fax Service all the time so this is sort of important for us.
USB thumb drives and external HDD no longer show up in the "safely remove hardware" screen even tho they show up fine in 'my computer' and work fine with autoplay.there is nothing in the SRH screen. this happens with USB ports on the motherboard and on a USB card. The drives show in device manager. I can detect and remove the USB drives with 3rd party software like 'USB disk eject'. The drives are 'optimized for quick removal'. I've got rid of all 'ghost' drives and hubs in device manager and related registry entries (with drivecleanup). 'plug and play' service is running. I can't think of any strange software and drivers recently installed. I've googled a lot with no results.
I have installed a music software program but it will not put its self in the program files for some reason and it does not show up in add and remove. Is there any way to get it to show up in there so eventually i can remove it..
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?
Just did an upgrade install of Win2k on a Win98SE system. I've had this computer for ages and did not want to do a clean install. The upgrade went fine except for one problem. In my add/remove program section all of my previously installed programs are missing. They were not deleted, just missing from add/remove.How do I restore these programs back into the add/remove program section?
i bought star wars battlefront 2. my swbf2 disk broken (broke disk #2). the good thing is that i could still play with disk 1... until i got a virus and had to clean install windows. luckly b4 that happened i burnt all the swbf2 data to a dvd. now i copied everything from the disk to E:programfileslucasarts starwarsbattlefrontII (its an external harddrive) but it doesnt show up in the add remove thing. i heard that the windows registry handles things like this, so how can i update the registry to show swbf2 installed? i have windows xp sp2.
So, how I'm able to uninstall Windows XP and reformat my drive to clear it out? The reason I'm doing this is because my system randomly messes up. When I first turn on the computer yesterday, it started to beep when it did the Memory Test. Also, it kept beeping (long beeps) and can not do nothing at the desktop. The only thing I can do is restart my computer. So, I unplug my keyboard, which stopped the beeping, but it messes up my computer. The one thing I can not do, is go on the internet. I check the Device Manager and the only thing it shows is "1394 Net Adapter". Ok, it uninstalled my ethernet controller.I put in my Abit Installer CD, so that I can install the ethernet controller back on. Oh what's this, I gives an error "An error occurred while launching the setup (0x80040702)." It didn't give me this error before, but the first time it gave me an error about the "ikernel.exe" not installed.
The problem in a nutshell is that today when I opened up the Add/Remove Programs section in Control Center, its only displaying a few installed programs, not all of the ones I have installed.I have a few programs I dont need anymore but I cant figure out how to un-install them since they dont show up in the list.Ive tried system restore but it didnt help, and I have not "tweaked" any settings that could have caused this, im at a loss as to how this happened.Ive also ran Spybot S+D, Ad-Aware SE and did a full system virus scan with VComs System Suite 7 and all came back clean, and I deleted all the temp internet explorer files and history, cookies etc.
I can see the list of all the items, but I can't remove any of them since there is no button. Is something wrong? I'll post a screenshot in a second. On Top of that, some of these programs I don't remember seeing here before, though I doubt this is malware.
I am using XP Home SP2. My "Add & Remove Programs" window only shows the name of programs installed and the frequency used. The change or remove options aren't shown. Has anyone any idea how to fix this?
we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?
I am experiencing a strange problem when attempting to uninstall programs from Control Panel --> Add / Remove programs. When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.
Programs on my work computer are not listed in the add or remove programs in control panel. This has caused me a few problems in the pasts when I need to delete programs and had to find the software supplier on a website to give me an uninstall program. There are many programs not listed.
