Debugging :: Asus N71JQ Laptop Freezing Up Requiring Multiple Reboots
Mar 8, 2014
I have an Asus laptop that has recently been migrated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1. I had few issues with Windows 8, after I got used to how it functions. Now, it usually takes 8-10 boot tries to make it through all the freezing issues before I get a successful boot. It rarely stops at the same place in the boot cycle. I have tried to use the Windows troubleshooter, selecting the restart issues, but it did not find any issues needing to be resolved. I have updated the drivers using driverscan, and it did update 31 drivers, but did not effect any changes to the freezing/lockups. I have configured the PC to create a complete dump upon lockups, but have not restarted the PC after the change since it takes so many tries to get to a workable configuration. I am attaching the SFdebug file as an attachment to this post.

I got a new ASUS G750jx laptop two weeks ago and have been having crashes since the first day.
So far I've tried various hardware diagnostic tools:
Memtest - ran it for 19 hours in multi-thread mode, did 11 passes and had no errors
Intel diagnostic tool - found no errors
Seatools - had no errors
Fumark, 3dmark - without troubles
Ran system with driver verified enabled, had crashes, but all of them related to nt kernel and don't really give much information ( i had updated to windows 8.1 at that time )
Couple of days ago reseted everything back to factory settings and had more luck getting references to specific drivers in minidumps, like sortport.sys, dxgkrnl.sys and nvlddmkm.sys. Obviously tried all newest drivers from the manufacturer website, but problems still persist.
Unfortunately I've removed latest dumps, so I'm attaching previous ones : [URL] ....
And and small output from sf tool, too bad cannot go back and get a better one : [URL] ....

I've started recently having issues with my Asus laptop (model x550c). It all began with couple of BSOD, that were referring to hardware error, but as they occurred when I witched WIFI I figured it was driver related, re-installed driver, and they went away.
Fast forward a few days, now computer just randomly (what I can see) freezes, with image and everything left, and nothing happens till I reboot by taking battery out (I can't move mouse, or do anything at all). I've also had issues starting PC up from the Windows 8 hybrid shutdown, with nothing but black screen greeting me leading to same battery reboot.
Memtest seemingly came back okay (although I'll let it turn bit longer once I'm home), drivers seems up to date, no new software been installed recently, antivirus scan came back clean. Nothing seems abnormal with GPU/CPU load or temp. Chkdsk fixed some minor issues after first bsod, but freezes continued.
I am attaching the last minidump file, that seems to be pointing at hal.dll as cause, as well as the SF info. However, I can't save event viewer logs however, as it gives "The specified channel could not be found" error, so I had to manually export all critical and errors events in three separate files you can find in the events archive.

I have this laptop: Amazon.com : ASUS A55A-AH51-WT 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (White) : Laptop Computers : Computers & Accessories, with additional 4gb Kingston ram aftermarket.
I am getting BSOD crashes whenever I play video games, like league of legends. They happen randomly and with seemingly no direct cause.
Windows has given me solutions to update my graphics card drivers, but whenever I "update" it gives me the same one I have and continuously says to update the driver.
including updating to the generic Intel Iris graphics drivers, but it still crashes.

I recently bought a new ASUS K55N-DS81 laptop and its been working fine since I got it but today (April 21st, 2013) while browsing in firefox the computer froze completely, it was restarted by pressing the button and afterwards only the ASUS splash page would load with the circle loading animation, it would never progress anywhere just constantly spin. It turned on once and asked me to go back to a previous restore point, during which it froze, now it powered on once again and it updated some things while booting, I got the event log from the event viewer so what caused this behavior in the computer.

This has been happening for a while, my computer will randomly freeze up, most the time I can move my mouse around but my internet seems to cut out (cant load any pages), all applications start to not respond, and it takes around 1-3 minutes to unfreeze. I have a ASUS G46V gaming laptop.

I've had my laptop for about 2 months now and I keep having this random freezing problem where the laptop won't function at all, but the last sound will loop (a milisecond loop so it sounds like a scream... if there is no sound nothing will loop). i've been going into the event viewer and have been noticing some errors, mistakes, warning, etc.
Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490
The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this
reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.
processor0,1,2,3 all have these errors
Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
When I bought it new, it hanged up once before I downloaded any real software, so i updated my drivers and such and it started becoming less intermittent, so then I updated my bios (came from asus) and it stopped for a while - however within the past 7 days i had 4 restarts because of this (3 in one day).
I have read other posts - none of them can really apply because I don't have those drivers or those anti-virus software installed Windows 8.1 ...

I have Asus Z87 Deluxe, CPU Intel I7 4770k Quad Core, Hard Drive Western Digital 4TB SATA HDD, Monitor Asus 24 class LED, Video card Asus HD7790. Running windows 8.1 pro with media centre (x64) (build 9600) It boots into legacy mode. My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. 1007. I know there is a later version, but I am a little paranoid to flash the Bios concerned I may Brick it.
I am experiencing random screen freezing and I am not sure why. I believe I have the latest drivers for all hardware.
I am at my wits end having had this problem for a month now. I am not to tech savvy to be honest. What I am thinking is my windows should have been installed in UEFI mode ( I am thinking this only because I am running out of things to try). Do I have to do a clean install to accomplish that and if doing so is that likely to solve my problem? Most of the freezes happen when I am working on the desktop with more than one program open (but not always) but quite often it involves playing a video.

My computer is a ASUS cm6730 desktop PC, 64 bit windows 8.1. I run it to my tv like this:
pc ---HDMI---> xbox one ---HDMI---> lg audio system ---HDMI---> tv
I have my desktop tucked away so i use a wireless keyboard and mouse to control the pc. My problem is 99% of the time while the computer is not being used (fully on but no input) it will completely freeze. The other 1% of the time it will happen while im typing or doing something.
The simple fix I have found is to unplug-replug the wireless keyboard/mouse and boom, instant fix! the problem i have is that the whole point of me having my setup is so i dont have to be right next to the desktop. i thought maybe the problem was the wireless keyboard and mouse but after buying a new one today with built in windows 8 functions, the problem hasnt changed.
One weird thing i noticed is while the computer is frozen if i press ctrl-alt-dlt nothing will happen (surprise surprise its frozen) but the second i do my "quick fix" with the wireless dongle it magically turns back on and the task manager will pop up (so the computer is still getting the keyboard inputs while frozen?)
All drivers are up to date... xbox one is not frozen (i can switch between pc-apps-games no problem, pc stays frozen)... anti virus runs clean... no major system changes sense this started happening a couple days ago. (it froze on me twice writing this message)

I built a computer recently. Since day one I get BSODs but the drivers, and Bug/Checks listed are never the same.I was thinking it couldn't be a single device or driver so I've:
Replaced the MOBO.
Repair Installed the OS.
Replaced the RAM.
It BSOD'd multiple times between each change.
The only things I've run are IE/FF and Ableton Live 9. Ableton is usually running during the BSOD but it was not the last time.

Mini dump files.
Computer specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77x-ud3h
i7 3770k, never overclocked running stock
16GB crucial ballistix 4x4GB
EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX570 HD
Antec high current 750w gamer PSU
Problem: My computer crashes randomly, sometimes while I'm working, sometimes while I'm away from the computer, there doesn't seem to be a pattern. Oddly enough, windows 8.0 ran just fine and never crashed. Windows 8.1 seems to crash much more frequently, and either blue screen or just lock up and reboot with no blue screen.
Suspected potential problem: When upgrading to windows 8.1, in order to get my very old cisco VPN client working, I had to install a citrix DNE (deterministic network) driver. I'm guessing it could be related to this and the old cisco client, though I have unchecked DNE on the network adapter and I have still had crashes, even with it unchecked/disabled in theory.

I've been experiencing seemingly random BSODs, mostly during gaming but also after gaming or even before doing anything at all.
Sometimes, but much less often, there's been random reboots or crashes without a BSOD.
What I've tried so far. Updated drivers for graphics, network and chipset.Uninstalled Avast, now using Windows DefenderReinstalled WindowsMemtest86+ for all my RAM together, 30 passes, no errorsMemtest86+ for each piece of RAM alone, 70-75 passes each, no errors
All the memory dumps in my archive are from after reinstalling in Windows, before that I also experienced the same kind of issues.
Between the BSOD of Jan 4 and Jan 17 I upgraded my graphics card from MSI 6950 to Sapphire R9 290. Same issues with both cards.
My full system specs are in my profile.

ASUS P8 Z77-V LK mobo has 1 each VGA, HDMI, DVI-D & Display
At first I was not confused thinking I could use VGA or DVI for my monitor and HDMI or VGA for my TV
Then I started reading about 'Display Port' and confusion set in.
1. -> Can I just use HDMI & DVI off the board at the same time to use 2 monitors ?
2. -> or Do I have to use an adapter and 'Display Port' for the 2nd monitor ?

I've been getting partial freezes on my HP laptop after upgrading to windows 8.1
What I mean by a partial freeze is when the app or program becomes unresponsive, but the mouse moves, alt+Tab works and the start button works too. However, I cannot make selections (i.e. Inside apps or the desktop) or open new programs.
Initially the freeze would stop after a minute or two, but these 2 days the freeze had directly caused the computer to shut down.
My laptop specs are as follows: 2.4 GHz processor (AMD A4-4300M) and 6 GB RAM. I only got it last year, came pre-installed with Windows 8.
I had no problems with Windows 8, I was not running any program that required a lot of memory. All the microsoft updates have been installed, drivers updated and registry cleaned. No conflicting anti-virus programs.

My laptop has been fine since the last episode but today it was freezing and the screen went blue and it needed to shut down. I let it do it's thing and it referenced -- kernal_data _inpage_error and since then it has been good for a few minutes but as soon as I attempt to multitask everything freezes for 3-5 mins and I can't do a thing. It is like it needs to catch up. get my laptop back in speedy order As I move over to a new tab that is taking some time to load I notice is says waiting for cache.....on the bottom... then it locked up -- just for maybe a minute. Both Google Chrome and IE give me the "Not Responding"

I was scanning my laptop running an AVG Anti-Virus scan last weekend and decided upon my stupid self that I should also download AVG PC Tune-up as well and wanted to repair my driver.
So, I did. Tried and failed.
On the start up of my laptop, the percentage ended up freezing up to 12% two times in a row (it would stay like that for 2 hours tops) and I restarted my laptop two times, only for it to keep on trying to repair my driver.
The stupidest thing that I did was I refreshed my PC, and it ended up erasing all of my precious files, including my drawings, bookmarks on Firefox and a lot of other things that are very dear to me. I had to updated Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 again, thinking that maybe I’ll be able to get my files back somehow.
But it didn’t work.
Now when I open programs that I newly installed, they don’t want to open? And now my laptop is acting very buggy and I’m worried that it might be completely damaged.
All I want is to get all of my files, programs, bookmarks, digital drawings, back. I want my laptop back to the way it used to be before I messed everything up.
My laptop is a Gateway NE56R27u (Windows 8).
Additional information: The weirdest part is that my background stayed the same, Skype pictures stayed (in a hidden file, what the heck?), my drawings managed to stay as well.

I turn on my laptop and I get my welcome screen. I type in my password to get to my start screen. But then it freezes. I can't click to access my start screen or any other tabs I have nor can I scoll from left to right. It just freezes. The only thing I can do is press ctrl-alt-del to shut down my laptop. I try again and the same thing happens. I get stuck on my start screen and can't do anything.

whenever I'm playing a game it'll randomly freeze for a couple seconds and buzz/loop the current sound through my speakers. Sometimes it won't recover and I'll have to shut off my computer manually. Sometimes after a long freeze it will say Display driver crashed but recovered, I've tried updating my drivers multiple times but nothing. I'm honestly not that computer savy, I've cleaned my computer multiple times and clean started it. Works for a bit but then right back at it. It could be that my graphics card isn't strong enough for the games I play? Doubtful but I'm not sure, especially since I turn down all the graphics. It usually only occurs if I'm playing a game and have a tab open or something. Also did a computer info scan that I'll attach.

The problem is that every now and again (30-60 minutes of use) my computer appears to freeze, EX: the screen is fixed and I cant move the cursor and nothing on the screen changes, the PC does not seem to react to keyboard input: CTRL+SHFT+ESC for example. I have noticed at least once (while playing a game) that the sound that was playing when it occurs tends to loop.
When this happens all I can do is switch the PC off from the Power Source - wait 10 seconds and replug and boot. If I try to boot without unplugging from the Power Source - the PC fails to boot asking me to put in the Windows Disk.
This issue occurs in different types of use, sometimes when I am playing 3D games, sometimes watching youtube or even reading the BBC news. No events are logged which give indication to what is happening.
SECONDLY: On some occasions when I leave my PC idle - I come back an hour later and it has rebooted itself (No BOSD Logged) to the Boot Failure Menu.
I have had one blue screen in the past 2 weeks (DPC Watchdog Violation) which seems to point to my SSD, but I cant figure out how to fix it - or if that is a secondary issue. Unfortunately as my SSD is only 64 GIG when i did get the BOSD, it didnt store it due to the space remaining on the disk (16 GB).
I have tried to attach my system event viewer (Cleared prior to this latest incident) but the uploader says its an invalid file .
Additional Notes
OS: Windows 8.1 (Installed on Release Day, Never had problems with 8.0)
GFX: Nvidia 550 TI
Disks: SSD (Crucial M4 64 GB) (OS Install), 1TB (Hard Drive storing games and files on software partitions)
8GB Memory (tried reseating)
PSU: 700 WATT
I know the issue isn't heat related as I have monitored this. I think the problem may have started a week back when I installed the latest NVIDIA Drivers - I have since uninstalled and reinstalled them, all my PC Drivers are up to date. to reduce load on GFX I have unplugged my main monitor.
I have run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender (My AV), RogueKiller, TDSKiller - several times, no viruses/rootkits, the occasional ad tracking on SuperAntiSpyware probably due to internet browsing.
I have no windows updates pending.

Not sure what is going on right now. My computer was fine this morning before I left for work. My wife said it was working fine this morning, and then she left it for a while and when it came back, she was getting blank screens.
When I took a look, it was blank. I did a hard shutdown and after the welcome screen, got a black screen of death. After several reboots, it finally got to the tile screen, but froze there.
So, right now, I'm operating out of safe mode where things seem more normal. Anyway, here are the logs.

I've been dealing with shoddy drivers for about three months now and recently it got so bad I had 9 BsoD's in one day. At that point I made major changes and got rid of everything that was unnecessary. Unfortunately I'm still having problems, with two BSoD's here in the last hour.

I encounter really frequent bsod crashes (3-6 every day) with various errors on my relatively new notebook - Asus G750JH-T4080H. these include:
INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
TIMER_OR_DPC_INVALID
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
Additional info: They mostly occur when in windows, browsing the web using firefox. only very seldom they appear during gaming. i also have to admit that i made recent changes to registry (regarding "The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." errors in event log/viewer") because of another problem (but the bsods were already there before that changes, but maybe not so frequently).
I just installed the new 8.1 windows updates, 30 minutes later new bsod appeared (uploaded current Diagnostic Tool zip):

I fear that there is a hardware problem ... Since I bought it, the pc make strange noise when I connect a usb device (a "bip-bip").
