Debugging :: Random BSOD In Windows 8?

Oct 11, 2013

Recently I've experienced random BSOD's in Windows 8. Although my computer know-how is limited at best, I knew it was best to upgraded my pc in steps. The first week I installed a SSD (with a fresh install of Windows 8 on it) and ran without any problems. A week later I installed 16 gigs of (new) ram (with the SSD) and everything ran fine.

The problems started two weeks later. I haven't made any changes to my pc or driver upgrades since then. If I idle in windows everything works fine. The same is true when running Office or browsing the internet. BSOD's occur when:

- Playing games (modern or old), either after 5 minutes or after 3 hours (seems very random but frequent);

- When wathing a HD youtube movie (BSOD's when doing this seem very rare though);

Debugging :: Random BSOD On New PC With Fresh W8

AMD FX-8300
AsRock 970 Pro3
2*4GB Gskill ripjaw
FSP Raider 550w
AMD Radeon 280x
Seagate something 1TB

I've used the pc for a few days with a usb pen with Ubuntu Live while i was backing up the files from the disk and it was ok. No crashes and no problems. Then i installed Windows 8 and i'm getting +- 2 BSOD's a day. I've already tried to find out the source, but the logs i find in the minudups are not clear to me. I'm only uploading 2 dmp files because i've done a system restore and all previous dmp were erased. I'll upload more when it happens again.

Debugging :: MSI GT70 Often Random BSOD's?

Jun 26, 2014

I have a MSI GT70 20D-039US DRAGON EDITION 2 and get random crashs since the first day I have it.

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 after the first crash and it didn't work and then i have updated all my drivers to latest from MSI Global GT70 Dragon Edition 2 and also killer network website(include firmware but BIOS I think).

I did some research about the issue some how find out killer network might be the center of the problem but when I shut it down (using msconfig to disable the killer service V2 and killer network manager ) as other did the problem are getting a lot worse compare to before(BSOD's every half an hour compare to maybe once a day) .

Debugging :: Random BSOD On Windows 8.1 Update 1

Sep 15, 2014

My PC config is :
1. Intel Pentium Pentium CPU G630 @ 2.70GHz Socket 1155 LGA (0x1)
2. 4GB DDR3 RAM
3. 2TB Seagate HDD

I am facing a strange issues of BSOD since last 10 days. 1st I was on Windows 7 SP1 since more than 3 months and earlier on Windows 8. Suddenly my Windows 7 got corrupted after automatic indexing process by windows, in which process showed some index files corrupted and deleted. After then windows cant start, stuck into bootloop.

I formatted Windows several times but after a few hours the same condition. Then I decided to backup my HDD and Zero Level format of HDD. I did that, which took almost 6 Hrs. After then I decided to go again on Widows 8. hence, formatted and installed Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Now, again after a few minutes or hours BSOD happen again and again with random Two errors :

1. irql_not_less_or_equal (storports.sys) or
2. kernel-data-inpage-error

I am attaching herewith my CPU details alongwith logs by "dm log collector".

Debugging :: BSOD - Getting Lot Of Random Error (HP Laptop)

Jun 15, 2014

I have this problem with my laptop for a week ago, I purchased this laptop (hp pavilion dv6 2170ee) 4 years ago. Now I'm currently using Windows 8.1 PRO on it. I recently upgraded my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB (a year ago). I'm using this laptop for work purpose, graphics like 3ds max, Photoshop and Autocad.

Well the problem started by getting a lot of unexpected shutdowns with BSOD with random errors ..

here's what I wrote:

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
PFN_LIST_CO
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

the memory management error & IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error are the most appearing , although the memory management is the #1 error happens. This leads me to test my RAMS , I ran a memory check (windows memory check & bios memory check) both gave me no errors. I even replaced my RAMS with the ones which originally came with the laptop, same errors happened again. I tried booting in safe mode, at that time no errors occured , I though it might be the drivers , I uninstalled the graphic driver and restarted the system everything was fine until I tried to install windows updates, OS asks me to reboot ,after that system started and I didn't touch even the mouse ,it crashed with errors again

Debugging :: Random BSOD On Fresh Install

Mar 9, 2014

Just reinstalled windows 8 on my desktop and started to receive random bsod. I know windows 8.1 is out. I downgraded due to BSOD issues on that version also. Yes I also know my windows 8 is out dated. I understand I should update but that's the least of my concerns right now. I already had 1 ram card fail on me a couple months back. But I didn't recognize this blue screen error.

I was reading this guys post BSOD Critical Process Died even after complete reinstall and his issue is exactly like I am having. My computer would just completely freeze while playing games or watching videos online.

I Just tried to run Memtest86+ and something strange happened. So here's what I did. First I download the Memtest86+ USB Installer. Turned off my computer and put my other 2 rams cards back in (I was testing one at a time). Started up my computer (HP) and press ESC to go into the boot menu and the computer just froze on that screen. It wouldn't do anything. So I turned the computer off and tried another option F10 I think it was. The computer froze again. I repeated this process for all boot options on my PC and each time the computer froze on the startup screen.

Debugging :: Random BSOD Happening For Some Time Now

Jul 16, 2014

I'm having BSOD for a few months now. It all started while I still had Windows 7 installed and by that time I did full RAM testing without ever accusing flaws. A month ago I did a clean format of my Disk and installed Windows 8.1 Pro with hopes that things would be better but they aren't.

I've had 6 BSOD since last month, with the first being after 1-2 days after installation (I had hardly anything installed), they all reported different messages and between them I reinstalled drivers with no success at ending them. In addition, all BSOD happened while doing different things or doing nothing (AFK).

If you want any further details besides the zip files attached feel free to ask. ( I inserted both OPTIONS zip files - JLReis.zip (OPTION 1), SFdebugFiles-JL-PC (OPTION 2)).

Debugging :: Random NON-BSOD Crashes - Event ID 41

Jun 23, 2014

My crashes are not related to BSODs. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY BSODs AND THUS DO NOT HAVE ANY DUMP FILES.

For about the past month and a half, I've been getting random crashes in Windows 7. My computer suddenly turns off and reboots itself. Just a black screen. Sometimes I don't get a crash for five days, sometimes I get one twice in the same day.

My copy of Windows 7 wasn't genuine. I did a completely clean install of a genuine copy of Windows 8.1 one week ago, just to rule out problems on the OS level. I just got a random restart an hour ago. I only brought over media files from Win7, so I'd say my problem must be hardware related, or something to do with my power socket.

Thoughts? Unfortunately, I can't change sockets easily, as I would have to move my computer into another room for possibly weeks just to see if the problem reoccurred (it's so rare).

The event viewer shows that these crashes coincide with Event ID 41: Kernel-Power. The event data is always blank as follows:

BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0
SleepInProgress false
PowerButtonTimestamp 0

My monitors do not turn off when the computer self-reboots and they are connected to the same surge protector as the computer. Does that pretty much rule out a socket problem?

My computer specs (nothing is overclocked):

i5 3570k @ base clock
Gigabyte Windforce 3X GTX 670 graphics card
Dell U2312HM (main monitor)
Dell P2214H (2nd monitor)
CM Storm "Spawn" mouse
Corsair K70 mechanical keyboard
Corsair TX750M PSU
16GB Corsair Vengeance LP RAM
MSI Z77MA-G45 mATX motherboard
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB HDD
OCZ 120GB Solid 3 SSD

Things I've tried:
1. Ruled out overheating: my computer is very well cooled. Prime95 can't push any of my CPU's cores past 50C. My CPU runs @ about 35C during heavy gaming and my GPU doesn't seem to get past 40C.
2. Run Prime95 for about 14 hours with no errors.
3. Run Memtest86 to rule out faulty memory. I only did one pass, so I'm guessing I should do more?
4. Unchecked the "automatically restart" option in advanced system properties. It hasn't had any effect.
5. Uninstalled my GPU drivers and updated to the latest ones.
6. Tried to rule out a faulty PSU to no avail. Hardware monitor programs give me crazy voltage readings (8V on my +12V), but voltages seem normal in the BIOS. Should I buy a digital multimeter to test voltages under full load?

Debugging :: Fresh Install 8.1 Random BSOD

Jun 6, 2014

I have a fresh install of Windows 8.1. Everything has been brought up to date including all hardware drivers and bios. I continue to experience the same BSOD every couple of days or so (Attached in this post). This is what else ive tried: Ive unplugged all extra hardware and it still continues to happen. Ive installed a different drive, tested memory (memtest) for 24 hours. Checked the power supply. Ran PC check on the mobo. etc. still continues to happen.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Debugging :: Random BSOD When Gaming Acer Aspire

Sep 15, 2014

I've just bought a new Acer Aspire V3 772G. My laptop crashes or reboot by itself every times i play a video game. Sometimes 5 minutes or 2 hours later.

-I update all the drivers from the Acer Website.
-I've updated the Bios to 1.15 (the latest).
-I've already run a memory test with Memtest86 during 10 hours : no single error.
-I've run a CPU test with intel with intel Processor diagnostic. There's a warning which says
CPU Frequency Test Passed with Warning!!!

The processor frequency could be affected by power management features. In order to ensure the processor frequency is not affected by a power management setting, enter BIOS, load defaults, and disable any 'Over-Clocking' or power management features that may affect processor frequency. Also, set any software applications which control power management features to default.

I didn't overclocked my CPU. I don't know whether it's overclocked or not. It's a second hand laptop.

-I've tried to test my graphic card with AtiTool but when i run it it says ''The Kernel Mode driver does not seem to be running A device driver is required for communication with your video hardware.
-I've also run a hard disk test with HDtune and it seems that i have 381Mb as bad sector.

My specs : IntelCore i7-4702MQ 2.2ghz with turbo boost up to 3.2ghz

Debugging :: Windows 8 - Random Variations Of BSOD While Booting

Aug 25, 2014

I've recently build my own computer with Windows 8, which turned out great at first. But after a day or two i've been experiencing seemingly random BSOD messages, and what triggers them. I've tried reinstalling Windows 8 and updating all drivers and installing all Windows updates, but after a short while the BSODs appear again.

I mainly get the BSOD when booting and they continue until i've tried a number of random troubleshooting options. Most of these options fail (including activating restore points) and the computer reboots with a new BSOD, and the next time into troubleshooting. The last couple of times it seems like Windows 8 will boot if i choose activate troubleshooting as a startup alternative.

At small periods of times i've also had troubles with computer going into a loop where it is turning on for a couple of seconds, then turning off, i did not get boot screen during this. I'm thinking this might be caused by some loose wiring which have been tightened, since i'm not having this trouble right now, but i thought i mention it anyway.

I've attached the BSOD data as instructed, with both tools. This includes only the files after my last install of Windows 8. My first install also experienced the 0x0000003b bug check code, but i don't have any more data than that.
