System Failed - Can't Install In 64bit Mode
Feb 28, 2010
I WAS in 64 bit mode but had a system failure and had to reinstall.Since then I haven't been able to install in 64 bit mode. No matter what I try it always installs the 32 bit version.I've even re-partitioned my hard drive in order to get a completely fresh install. But nothing seems to work.Windows "knows" my system in 64 bit capable. In the Control Panel - View basic info about your computer it shows my processor as "AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.4 GHz".Is there a way coerce a 64 bit install?

I have a system I have used for a while now and I actually reformatted a few months ago. The system has been working great with no problems but recently during a boot up I noticed an issue. Right when Windows begins its setup to take you to the login screen I noticed a bluescreen and a quick reboot. So I used F8 to boot from the last known good config, no change. I went and disabled the automatic reboot after a crash so I could read the error and it's the:
"Process1_initialization_failed" error.
I looked around for that error and found this: Fix: STOP 0x0000006B PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED Blue Screen | The Windows Club
However, when I tried to get into the C: to remove that file, it said "Access Denied" and locked me out. I have yet to be able to get into the system since. To make matters worse I gave up and decided to just reformat the drive and start fresh. However, when I load up my Windows Installation DVD it is noticeably slow, it takes 5-10 minutes to go from step to step. So I got to the "Install" button screen, clicked it and it says "Setup is starting..." and then...nothing. It just stays on that screen for a long time, I gave it 30 minutes last night. So I'm unable to even reformat.

I just formatted my computer and after completion of my install of Windows 7 I noticed that it installed the 32-bit version, yet for the last year it has been running the 64-bit version!! I have no idea why it won't let me install the 64-bit version, I even tried another fresh install of Windows 7 but I got the same result. Thinking it was hardware, I ran the Windows Experience Index and then clicked "View details etc.." and it indeed did say that my system IS 64-bit capable! What am I doing wrong?? Or what am I not doing in order to reach the 64-bit install threshold?

I am performing a clean install of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium with SP1 integrated on a Dell Studio XPS 8100, and after the first reboot during installation, I get a message "Windows could not configure one or more system components. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." This is a 64 bit machine. Was running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate until yesterday.
Tried partitioning/cleaning/wiping the drives in so many ways I couldn't even count, including "clean all" from repair disk, booting to ubuntu live cd and making sure no rogue filesystems/partitions exist, letting windows installer create partitions, precreating the partitions in diskpart/ubuntu. Have tried several iso's and several cd's/usb drives.
Messed with some bios settings, but to no avail, and made sure my bios was up to date. Downloaded drivers from dell and loaded chipset drivers pre-installation just in case. Have removed all extraneous devices from system excepting the keyboard, mouse, HD, CD-drive, and video card. The 32bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium installed completely fine, with no issues whatsoever, even without pre-loading the chipset drivers.
System Specs:
i7 870k
8GB 1333-MHz DDR3
Intel H57 Chipset
Two regular old 7200 Western Digital drives
GH50N CD-DVD Drive
GTX 560ti

Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.

Yesterday I have installed Mirrors edge to my laptop Asus k50ab, I have windows 7 64 bit, after playing the game, I restarted pc, and then it just failed to start and pc restarted, same thing in all safe modes. I think its problem with graphic card update, i have ATI , and probably installed Nvidia update...
Always writes this error: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF88009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)"
I tried almost everything, but i think if i will delete that update or something , it will run..

I recently bought a new asus laptop and after some issues with it i decided to format and clean install the OS. It came with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I went out and bought windows 7 Pro 64bit and attempted an install. The installation went through smoothly til the end where I received the message "interactive logon has failed, please consult the event log ..." after this message it rebooted and attempted a start-up only to be met with a strange gray screen and then it reboots again.
Nothing else works like safe mode, or advanced boot options. Ive tried installing several times with with the same result. Now whats weird is that when I install a 32-bit version of this there's no problems, except that its designed for a 64 and runs slowly. So why would I be able to install a 32bit version of windows and not a 64 bit? Even though all the hardware is for a 64??

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if my problem is the same as theirs, and if it is, I don't know how to fix it; I don't want to insult anyone, but the input on how to fix it was a bit vague.

I have a new build using Windows 7 HP SP1 64-bit which has been up and running for about a month. MS updates for 11/14/12 included the Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Win 7. This update failed to install (several times), even when done alone. First time since building system where it has failed an update. Only thing I have added since original build is a EVGA GTX 650 video card (last week).

This used to work, but no more ( don't know what might have caused it). I ran "sfc /scannow". SFC reported that there were corrupted files that could not be repaired or replaced and to look at CBS.log. I did but can make no sense out of it.

I have a problem with my laptop when trying to re-install Office 2013 preview edition - basically the initial install failed for some reason and can I can neither remove or install this software leaving me in some sort of Microsoft limbo.Someone I know suggested logging onto the "my account" section of the Microsoft site and actually deactivating the install however that has not solved the problem?CCleaner has also been run to try and remove any redundant registry entries however again that has not solved my problem.

My DVD drive disappeared so I want to do a system restore to get it back, but it fails and Windows tells me that it could not access a file. I have Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes, and I turned them both off, but it still fails. If there is no quick fix for this I would at least like to lock in my system restore snapshot so it doesn't get overwritten by a new one.
