64bit Install Fails - Windows Could Not Configure One Or More System Components
Jul 11, 2012
I am performing a clean install of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium with SP1 integrated on a Dell Studio XPS 8100, and after the first reboot during installation, I get a message "Windows could not configure one or more system components. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." This is a 64 bit machine. Was running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate until yesterday.
Tried partitioning/cleaning/wiping the drives in so many ways I couldn't even count, including "clean all" from repair disk, booting to ubuntu live cd and making sure no rogue filesystems/partitions exist, letting windows installer create partitions, precreating the partitions in diskpart/ubuntu. Have tried several iso's and several cd's/usb drives.
Messed with some bios settings, but to no avail, and made sure my bios was up to date. Downloaded drivers from dell and loaded chipset drivers pre-installation just in case. Have removed all extraneous devices from system excepting the keyboard, mouse, HD, CD-drive, and video card. The 32bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium installed completely fine, with no issues whatsoever, even without pre-loading the chipset drivers.
System Specs:
i7 870k
8GB 1333-MHz DDR3
Intel H57 Chipset
Two regular old 7200 Western Digital drives
GH50N CD-DVD Drive
GTX 560ti
I was attempting to reinstall Windows 7 because it was getting slow, and I was almost finished and was on Completing Installation... phase I get an error saying that "Windows could not configure one or more system components" and then it started rolling back the system. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate and I never had this problem before.
I have met some problem when formatting my laptop when the formatting process reaches the complete installation of windows 7 part,it suddenly says that the windows cannot configure one or more system components n ask me to restart the installation for windows 7.I kept trying for many times but the result is still the same. So,i would like to ask is there any ways to solve this problem??
I am performing a clean install of windows 7 on my sony VGN-FW520F (which had Windows 7 previously). I performed a secure erase of the HD with "Clean All" command in DISKPART and reformatted the drive in ntfs. When I install Windows 7 64 bit I get an error 85% through that says "windows could not configure one or more system components" and requires a new installation. Did I wipe critical drivers from SONY that are needed to perform an install? If so what steps do I need to take to install Windows 7?
I tried to install Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my brand new rig and I kept getting a "Windows could not configure one or more of your system components". I tried reformatting, changing the SATA to IDE and AHCPI, nothing worked, so I installed Home Premium x86. Being a 32 bit system it only recognizes 3.5gb of my 8gb Dual Channel DDR3 with 4.5gb being "system reserved hardware".
Windows could not configure one or more system components To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation i get this message on clean windows 7 instal i formal my disk and custom instal from boot and on compliting instalation i get that error?
My Canon LiDE 600F scanner is failing to install on Windows 7 (64bit) (version 6.1 build 7600).
This scanner works fine on WindowsXP, however.
I spoke Canon about this and they obviously get this complaint all the time and they say that their drivers (which they have failed to up date ) work "just fine" and that it is a problem with Windows 7 itself and that I need to speak to Microsoft (!)
Hardware Canonscan LiDE 600F / Windows 7 x64 Pro?I have tried to install "LiDE 600F Scanner Driver Ver. 12.1.2 (Windows 7 x64/Vista64/XP x64)" lide600fvst641212ea15.exe (version:12.1.2 Size:12.19MB Posted:10/19/2009). But although it SAYS that it has installed correctly, TWAIN does not fire up and I am unable to use the scanner. It also makes a weird noise through the computer's loud speaker going "dee-dum" every 2 seconds.(Fwiw, the sound is like two low-ish frequency guitar strings being plucked, about 1 octave apart). Also in the Control Panel unders System the scanner dialogue is disappearing and refreshing every 2 seconds as well.It sounds to me like something is rejecting the driver, but not showing any error message to screen.- Is there any way to (permanently) "give permission" to the driver to run?
I am installing Windows on my new SSD. I made the disk GPT (instead of MBR), and installed Windows (tried 5 times now) with similar results. Either error 0xc0000225 or boot loop of "Windows is loading files" ... or it throws me back to my BIOS Boot selection screen where I came from ... what might be the problem? Windows 7 still cant handle GPT partitions? Or it doesnt like the new SSD? I managed to install and reboot successfully once by removing all other drives (except the SSD which I am installing into), works, I can enter Windows. Then once I installed back the other HDDs, it fails again ...
My Win7 HP x64 PC has two hard drives, each partitioned into two volumes:
My C: and E: drives are each half of a 200GB drive, both NTFS. My D: and F: drives are each half of a newer, 1TB drive, both NTFS. My F: drive has around 400GB of 'stuff' that I want to preserve.
I've been trying to migrate the win7 installation from C: to the first partition of the 1TB drive with two different tools (Norton Ghost and the built-in Windows backup utility) and both fail identically. The backup procedure itself appears to work in both cases.Restoring the backup to the first partition of the 1TB drive "works" in so much as I don't get any errors either way.Creating the requisite boot structures also work, as the O/S appears to be bootable. However, when the restored O/S makes it to the login screen, two flaws are evident:
1. The keyboard absolutely does not work.
2. If I log in on an account that doesn't need a keyboard (no password), I see "Loading desktop", then a few seconds "Logging out" and I'm back at the login screen.
If I look at the event viewer logs (booting up with the O/S on the smaller drive), I see numerous events like this:"The AVGIDSAgent service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.""The Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."
I originally partitioned my Toshiba NB205-N210 for Windows XP, so I only gave the system partition 8GB.Recently I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) and of course 8GB is too small for it to really work well. This is even if I have enabled "compress files" for C: and I've already removed everything from "Turn Windows features on or off".I have actually been able to run Windows Update and update everything, but now it wants to install Service Pack 1, and there's not enough room - I only have 300 MB left. When I was researching what I could delete to make more room, I came across a torrent called "Windows 7 Lite - Dark Netbook Edition". The creator wrote that he had removed these components:
- Projector Connectivity - Speech Support - Welcome Center - TV Tuner - NVIDIA & ATI Video Drivers
I recently created a virtual server of window 2008 x86 enterprise edition. I installed integrated components and configured my educational / testing server and things were working fine until I rebooted the host OS and everything seems peachy but after the OS splash screen something seems to be conflicting locking the OS preventing the user login screen to appear. I checked the bios and intel virtualization Is on in the bios and I can load into safemode so the issue must be caused from some conflict that isn't loaded in safemode. Has anyone run into this issue before and what line of thought did they use to fix the problem -posted from the smartphone of a tired programmer so please forgive any grammatical or spelling issue
I just formatted my computer and after completion of my install of Windows 7 I noticed that it installed the 32-bit version, yet for the last year it has been running the 64-bit version!! I have no idea why it won't let me install the 64-bit version, I even tried another fresh install of Windows 7 but I got the same result. Thinking it was hardware, I ran the Windows Experience Index and then clicked "View details etc.." and it indeed did say that my system IS 64-bit capable! What am I doing wrong?? Or what am I not doing in order to reach the 64-bit install threshold?

I've been trying to update using the win7 updater to Sp1. I've beeen able to get it downloaded but the installation fails shortly into the process returning a message saying that it cant proceed due to missing components. I've tried one potential fix which is to restore backuped fies from my last usage of driver sweeper, but that did not work.
I had 32 bit Windows 7 home premium provided by OEM. Recently I purchased Windows 7 professional 64 bit in order to increase my memory.(My system is 64 bit capable) I followed [1]. I am using USB for installation. I booted the system with USB. Then at disk manager I deleted all the partitions(including recovery ) Then I refreshed and click next and I got an error saying setup unable to create system partition.
I WAS in 64 bit mode but had a system failure and had to reinstall.Since then I haven't been able to install in 64 bit mode. No matter what I try it always installs the 32 bit version.I've even re-partitioned my hard drive in order to get a completely fresh install. But nothing seems to work.Windows "knows" my system in 64 bit capable. In the Control Panel - View basic info about your computer it shows my processor as "AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.4 GHz".Is there a way coerce a 64 bit install?
I run Windows 7 on two of machines. One runs flawlessly. The other ran flawlessly for about a month or two, and then I started getting a rather odd problem. The OS fails to recognize my (mostly) left mouse clicks for random periods of time, say 5 seconds to like 60 seconds. It'll work, then it'll stop, then it'll work... etc. Obviously this is extremely frustrating. Thinking it's the mouse, I tried another mouse - same problem.
Both mice are USB, but it does not seem to be an issue with the USB ports as my keyboard and other USB peripherals work fine. Running the C2D Extreme Quad core from a couple of years ago, X38 chipset board, 4870x2. I formatted and reinstalled the first time this problem came up, and it started again within a few hours of the reinstall. All I've got installed besides my drivers are:
Attempting to backup my HP laptop to my new Seagate Expansion 3TB plug and play external drive returns the error shown in the screenshot below. After searching Google for a solution it seems the backup utility in Windows 7 is not compatible with high capacity drives over 2.5TB. Am I understanding this correctly? How am I going to backup my laptop onto this drive?I did come across a proposed solution here but apparently this would prevent the drive from working with Windows XP. As I need to move file between the laptop and an XP machine this is not an option for me.There is approximately 126GB of data on the machine and the drive is brand new, formatted to NTFS and otherwise empty.Perhaps I need to use a third party software to backup?
I'm looking for ways to configure windows so that a particular program is never installed in the PC. Please help in understanding if there is a way to do so.
When I install windows 7 on my regular hard drive it is fine. When I try to install it on my ssd drive it says that windows setup could not configure windows to run on the computers hardware, why???
After I tried to make a dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Windows now does not boot. I have tried to reinstall and repair the HDD but the disc fails to recognize my HDD (Western Digital Scorpio Black 500 GB). My HDD is Basic, has 3 primary partitions and 1 extended (3 logical). Ubuntu 11.10 can boot fine.
After assembling the new computer, I ran it without the system disk installed to make sure everything was kosher, and memory timings, etc. were correct. After verifying that, I shut it down and put the SSD into the new unit and booted it up. The system posts fine, but once the Win 7 startup image shows, the system restarts and brings me to the "start windows in safe mode/start windows normally" prompt.
I have an OLD computer with a 2.4 GHz processor and 1 GB ram, running XP 32 bit. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7, So I tried to install 32 bit windows 7, knowing my computer couldn't handle 64 bit. However, at the end, it simply told me "Installation Failed" and reverted to XP, with all my files. I tried multiple times, then I tried installing 64 bit windows 7, and surprisingly, it worked. However, it is laggy beyond belief, so I tried installing 32 bit again. Again the installation failed. Now I'm thinking of reverting BACK to XP.
message after Sysprep stating "Sysprep Fails After Deployment With: Windows could not finish configuring the system."This is a new out-of-box Lenovo T530 laptop, it came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Pro.I pulled laptop from box and inserted our Windows 7 Pro SP 1 disk and installed our copy. I then configured all settings and applications under "audit mode", created an "Unattend.xml" file using the WSIM, and copied that file into the Sysprep folder and ran "Sysprep /shutdown /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml" The error message appears after I image drive using Ghost GSS 11.5.1.2266. (I'm assuming the error would appear after boot-up regardless of imaging the machine)I have read numerous articles regarding this error and have also disabled the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" as suggested by many. I'm also assuming that the "Hotfix" for this issue does not apply since I am installing SP1.I am able to boot into the machine after attempting to boot into "safe mode" first (as suggested by many users), however once in, it looks as if the XML file is completely ignored.
excess ie9 crashes prompted me to attempt a fix, i uninstalled ie9, updated the ie8 that was left after a restart, had the ie9 downloaded, after updating ie8 fully, tried to reinstall ie9, but installation aborted with Troubleshoot problems when you cannot install Internet Explorer 9 as my only recourse. i tried the fixit wizard, which just deleted adobe flash, but gave the same error message, and on rerunning it, said there were no errors to fix, so now i'm using firefox, ie8?
Running Vista Home Premium X64 and trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium X64. The install fails the installer's compatibility test with the message "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading.Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. For these items, make the following changes:Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program". Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 ".However, Trend Micro Internet Security was uninstalled from this computer at least a year ago and I can find no evidence of any shreds of it being present - not in the programs list, not in the file system and not in the registry.
I did a full back up using Acronus and ever since I have had problems. I tried reinstalling win 7, but this is what I get:"The computer restarted inexpectedly or encountered an expected error. Windows installtion cannot proceed. Click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation"I have done this repeatedly. I must add that I had a local TigerDirect store run full diagnostics and they say all my hardware is fine?
