Windows Setup Cannot Configure Hardware

Aug 16, 2012

I have been doing lot of reading and looking around but cannot seem to get past this problem. I recently bought a new HP laptop, i7 processor, Navidia GT6300M video card, 8 GB RAM. HP original windows come with so much bloatware and have so many problems that i want to do a fresh clean windows 7 install on the machine. So i got a bootable windows 7 USB drive, actually i downloaded windows 7 home premium from internet and used windows 7 usb tool to make usb drive. When i go install it, first i come to partition table, HP has four partitions, one system and one recovery and two other small ones. I have tried installing after removing all partitions and make just one system drive, i have also tried keeping the paritions and install on system drive. Every time it goes through the install, reboots, does get through updates and all and on the last part gives the above statement and then i cannot get anything to work. I am able to restreo back to factory using recovery discs so windows work that way.

Lenovo G560 / Setup Cannot Configure Windows 7 On This Hardware

Nov 24, 2012

I have installed windows 7 on many of these Lenovo G560's. They are standard from the factory. I had just setup this one particular laptop myself a couple months ago. Now the customer got "the problem" and upon attempting to wipe and reinstall win7 (the exact same OS/flavor, on the exact same hardware) now I receive the "error" saying windows setup cannot configure windows on this hardware.

it's like it gets most of the way thru the basic install, and the harddrive has all the basic files on it. But setup just cannot continue. I Know all about new hard drives, the 4k-thing, that has nothing to do with this, unless some virus is causing a "hardware" problem. Or maybe it is a bios issue? Bios corruption? I can't even reinstall / update bios unless windows is on it. And now I can't finish the win7 install. I have one of these lenovo's as my own laptop here/now typing this on. I don't have a problem reinstalling win7 on it.

I have tried installing from DVD, from a usb stick, from the hard drive itself (copying files to a partition on the hard drive) no go. I've tried changing BIOS settings for the hard drive from AHCI to "Compatible" (there are only these two options) and made no difference. Why (or What) the change? What causes this on standard hardware that normally would work? Is it probably broken hardware? (a bad drive controller?)

Windows 7 Setup Could Not Configure To Work On This Computer's Hardware?

Jun 3, 2011

120GB Fujitsu Hard drive is set to IDE, but I've tried AHCI as well. 2GB Crucial RAM.Motherboard is ASUS M4A785-M, processor is OEM Phenom II x4 920. Using on board graphics. The only USB device that is plugged in is my mouse. I've tried 2 different ISOs and almost all the editions and I get the same result. I've tried installing the chipset driver along with it, but when I do it just freezes after it restarts.I'm starting to think that something isn't compatible with a 64 bit OS, even though everything is listed..

Windows Setup Cannot Configure Windows To Hardware?

Dec 3, 2011

I was recently using my computer, when I got the message, "potentially harmful software detected." I clicked the take action option, but nothing happened. So, I turned off my tower, and turned it back on. It wouldn't get to the user sign in process. It just kept with it's blank screen. So, I've had a similar problem before, so I reset my computer to factory condition, since I don't have anything vital on it. I ran start up repair, which worked fine. I ran tests which worked fine and said it passed the entirety of the basic test. I did a more specific hard-drive test, and it passed that. So,I reset the computer to factory condition, and it goes well to that point. But then it gets to the "Setting up services" part of the resetting your computer, and it loads to installing services, but then it will say, "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to this hardware." or something to that affect. Then I'll get a message saying "Windows could not complete installation. Restart instillation." And it'll go no further, even when I reboot. What's wrong? If it helps, I use an HP 2009m.

Windows Setup Could Not Configure Windows To Run On This Computer's

Aug 10, 2011

I'm trying to do a fresh clean install of Windows 7 x64 on a new harddrive (Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5") through a USB Key

CPU: Intel i5-2500k
MSI P67A-C43 (B3)

Installing proceeds as normally, until it restarts at Configuring hardware....The resolution will change and then the error message "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" will pop up.I've changed my SATA settings in the bios to ACHI, RAID, IDE and tried installing multiple times under each option but no dice.I've tried loading Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the MSI website prior to the Windows installation, but its giving me an error message about the drivers not being signed.

"Windows Setup Could Not Configure Windows On This Computers Hardware"?

Sep 23, 2012

I am currently trying to install Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. I current have it set up at 32-bit Windows 7 because one of the RAM sticks died a year ago. I just bought 8 GB of g.Skill ram from Newegg and received it 4 days ago[URL]... I've ran memtest for several passes and no errors show up.

Laptop: HP DM4 1063cl (approximately 2 years old) It used to be able to install Windows 7 from the same disk, but when I tried 3 days ago, it failed. I've downloaded multiple isos of SP1 from Microsoft website and still gives me the same error. I read about RAID drivers but HP told me that AHCI mode is default. I've set the BIOS to default settings and still wouldn't work. The only thing I've ever done to HDD was partition it. I've restored the HDD in comand prompt and still wouldn't run. I've switched the memory back from the old ones and also single sticks and still wouldn't work.

64bit Install Fails - Windows Could Not Configure One Or More System Components

Jul 11, 2012

I am performing a clean install of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium with SP1 integrated on a Dell Studio XPS 8100, and after the first reboot during installation, I get a message "Windows could not configure one or more system components. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." This is a 64 bit machine. Was running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate until yesterday.

Tried partitioning/cleaning/wiping the drives in so many ways I couldn't even count, including "clean all" from repair disk, booting to ubuntu live cd and making sure no rogue filesystems/partitions exist, letting windows installer create partitions, precreating the partitions in diskpart/ubuntu. Have tried several iso's and several cd's/usb drives.

Messed with some bios settings, but to no avail, and made sure my bios was up to date. Downloaded drivers from dell and loaded chipset drivers pre-installation just in case. Have removed all extraneous devices from system excepting the keyboard, mouse, HD, CD-drive, and video card. The 32bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium installed completely fine, with no issues whatsoever, even without pre-loading the chipset drivers.

System Specs:
i7 870k
8GB 1333-MHz DDR3
Intel H57 Chipset
Two regular old 7200 Western Digital drives
GH50N CD-DVD Drive
GTX 560ti

"windows Setup Could Not Configure Windows To Run On This Computer..."

Aug 4, 2010

I've recently gone out and bought 4 HDDs to run as a raid 10, now I am using my motherboards onboard fakeraid a ihc10r. The cables are fine and when I try and install windows 7 (pro 64x) onto each individual drive with raid and ahci turned off in bios windows installs just fine. Now when I raid the drives as raid 10 windows install can see the drive and even then I load the drivers just to be sure iastor.sys etc (I've tried with and without) the same thing happens every time after the first reboot I get about 10 minutes in and about 2 mins after the screen resolution is adjusted BOOM "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". I've also tried installing with 1 hdd plugged in, raid turned on in bios but no array setup and it also fails at the same point. It's pretty wierd.I did a memtest and it passed this, I also have the jmicron piece of garbage on my MB turned off. Furthermore the install proceeds when the SATA controller is in AHCI mode BUT not in raid mode.

Windows 7 Setup Can See RAID Volume But Cannot Install On It?

May 6, 2012

I am having trouble installing windows 7 (home premium) on my new raid array (2x intel 330 120GB SSD in RAID0). Basically, windows CAN see the raid volume. it recognies that there is a single 223 GB volume available. I select "Load Driver" for the volume, and plug in my trusty USB with the appropriate intel SATA RAID drivers. Win7 recognizes that there is a compatible driver on the USB, installs it, but still says: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu". The format and create new partition options are grayed out for this volume.

Using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology tool, I combined the two drives into a raid0 volume. This is confirmed because when I restart, the raid volume shows up in the RST echo with the right size, and also indicates that the volume is bootable. It is also confirmed because the windows 7 setup only sees one 223GB disk. I have confirmed that in the BIOS, the SATA controller is set to RAID mode (not AHCI). I have confirmed that in the BIOS, the first boot option is "RAID intel SSD". I've tried the RAID drivers that came with the motherboard, Ive also tried the raid drivers available from intel and the latest raid drivers available from the motherboard MFR.

ASROCK extreme 6
Intel Core i7-3770k

2x intel 330 120GB SSD

Install Windows 7, Setup Cannot Find Harddrive

Apr 10, 2011

I am attempting to install Windows 7(32) onto my computer (currently running Windows Vista32). I have been unable to do so because the setup claims that I have no harddrives in which to install windows. It will not detect them during the installation process.

The compatibility check states that my computer is capable of running Windows 7(32) I am curious if there is anything I could do to get the installation to detect my harddrive.

My computer specs are:

Nvidia GTS 450
Intel Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
4.00gb Ram
Dell XPS720
PLDS DVD+RW DH-16A6S SCSI CdRom (driver up to date)

I attempted to format my C: as well, as per a friends suggestion, and was unable to do so recieving an error message stating "system partition is not allowed to be formatted" . I do not recall partitioning my system.

New Windows 7 Install After RAID Setup - No Signed Driver Found

Aug 2, 2010

I have an ASUS Motherboard M4A87TD EVO, got two new hard drives, and changed the BIOS settings to a RAID configuration. After exiting BIOS, I loaded the WIN 7 (64 bit) installation disc, got thru the first few prompts of installation, and the pop up error menu shows up. "No signed Driver Found, Please insert CD/DVD/ Floppy", and my RAID configuration does not appear in the box as a hard drive for Windows to be installed into.

After researching on the web and contacting ASUS, I still don't understand. From what I can gather, it is a driver that will make THE INSTALLATION PROCESS RECOGNIZE MY RAID configuration. Apparently, it must be downloaded onto a thumbdrive and installed "during" the Windows installation. Is it specific to this type of installation, or manufacturer specific? Asus or Windows? A third party??

Install Windows 7 And Error: Setup Was Unable To Create New Partition

Jan 16, 2013

I tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"

I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.

Setup Freezes During Install

Aug 30, 2010

Ok, I tried to install Windows 7 a while back, and it would freeze every time during 'expanding files' section. I also run into similar problems when it comes to installing Vista. I've gotten Vista to install maybe 2 times and both times it ran fine for a little then it refused to boot (not sure where in the process anymore).I checked the Windows Vista / 7 compatibility guide on Microsoft's page and everything i have SHOULD work, so I'm not thinking its hardware issues.I read another post on these forums that had someone saying it worked when they swapped out the dvds when it froze. I don't believe its the disc either, because both Vista and 7 had no problems installing on other computers that i tested it on. Running a Virtualbox with 768mb RAM assigned to it installed flawlessly as well. Why does my install keep freezing on the machine I plan to activate Windows with, but not on any other?

Edit Compatibility On A Un-install Setup

Oct 11, 2009

I'm trying to uninstall a program (GTA4/Grand Theft Auto game), but the setup for this game does not work on Windows 7.

To make the setup work we need to edit the compatibility for it.

It's the same problem to install the game, the same error "incompatible with %P". The solution to install it's the compatibility mode.

But I don't know how to change the compatibility to the uninstall setup. The setup.exe, I don't know where it is, when I click to uninstall the system always generate a setup.exe on a temp folder like:

C:UsersSauloBAppDataLocalTemp{E5FDAAC7-1D94-43B7-BB89-F0762501AD15}setup.exe

The {strings} always change. So I cannot edit the setup to open on compatibility mode.

Does anyone know how to change the compatibility for setups on the uninstall list?

Btw, there's no uninstall shortcut on the game start menu
