I am trying to install Windows 7 enterprise. When it gets to the step to enter the computer name and usually at that same step you setup the username. This installation does not have that step and when I click next it finishes the install reboots and brings me to the login screen. I can log in because there is no username or password set.
How to set up a User name and password on a Windows 7 pc so that I can access it on a network. I have shared the whole drive and turned on full access to all users.
Using a dime a dozen, store bought preconfigured PC running Win 7, during the initial setup out of the box, when you are at the user name/ computer name screen, I initially typed in a user name, but then did a "cut", deleting that name and I just entered a password to see if it would let me do this.
To my surprise it did, advancing me to the next screen with just a password.
When I got to the actual login screen and just typed in the password, but it wouldn't let me login. I tried the original user name with the password, but that didn't work.
The solution from Comtrash was to do a restore process, effectively reloading their version of the O/S.
I just purchased a new HP laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium install setup on the hard drive. I started and completed the installation. But I don't remember during the install asking me for an Administrator Name & Password. After the installation was completed I did the Recovery Disks, but have not yet rebooted the laptop. When is the Admin Name and Password created? I remember seeing a Rick-PC during the install, but I don't remember it asking for me to input a password. Am I fretting prematurely, or do I need to reboot, or can I use the Recovery Disks to start over?
I've been using an old PC with Windows XP. And I checked out 3 books on Windows 7 at the Library.
I've got a folder shared to specific user on my Windows 7 laptop. When i try to access that folder over lan, from my Vista laptop, it doesn't ask me for user&pass, but just gives "Access denied" error message. If it's set as shared to everyone, then i can access it just fine. But i want it to be accessible only after password protection over lan. Both laptops are set to "WORKGROUP" and here are the network settings for the windows 7 one
Network Discovery: ON File and printer sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: OFF File sharing connections: Enable 40 and 56 bit encryption as well Password protection sharing: ON HomeGroup connections: Use user accounts and passwrods to connect to other computers
We moved our offices from one location to another over the weekend. New ISP but everything else is the same.Have a peer-to-peer network with one pc (Windows 7 Professional) acting as the file server. Everyone now has access to internet and we can all "see" each other. For some reason now when we want to connect to Public Folders on our "file server" it is asking for login credentials such as username and password. I have it set to not require a password since we have a mixed environment. It has always worked in the past and I am not sure why it would be requiring that now. I had read somewhere to try and setup an admin username and password that was the same for both computers. I tried that and it was still unsuccessful (Although I still have it set to not require a password).
I just applied to college and i am trying to acess their website to log on and get started going to school. When i go to log onto the site windows security pops up and asks me for my username and password but i dont know either one of these and i really need to acess this site
The storage path for Outlook XP data files is :UsersUsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst which does not appear to work with respect to useername and password storage.Just wondered if changing the path to:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst would create a situation where the outlook username and password were saved on the ISP's server.
I've got some driver problems so I decided to reinstall the same windows [Win 7]. While installing, The system restarted and showed up the Win 7 wallpaper asking for username and password. From what ? Also i didn't configured username/password before this. Tried the old username/pass but it says "This domain cannot be connected, blah blah blah...".
I have a Win 7 laptop and xp desktop on my network. When I try to access the xp desktop from the win 7 laptop, I sometimes get a dialog box requesting username/password. Other times I get a message box that I do not have permission to access the desktop. Other times still, everything works fine. The xp can access the laptop no problem. The laptop can always see the desktop in the network, the problem is accessing it to share files or use a printer attached to the desktop.I have no passwords on either computer. I have disabled passwords in the advanced network settings for home & work. Registry has LmCompatibilityLevel set to 3 on the laptop
Performed system restore to factory point when I first recieved the computer. When windows starts, it states that it is rpeparing the system for first time use, however it will get to the welcome screen and prompt for a user name and passwordSystem restore never asked for a user name and password. I tried using the account information from when I setup the computer originally but it does not recognize the username. Also tried to type in administrator for the user name and it says the account has been disabledI have tried to setup user through the command prompt and through the registry using the windows recovery disk. When all this failed I contacted Dell and they said I disabled the admin account during restore (I would like to know how) and I would need the windows installation disk which were not included.
I have a dell inspiron with Windows 7 that I got from Walmart for christmas. It came with a walmart adminstrative account, a guest account, and another user account. I Changed the administrator username And password, kept the guest one, And deleted the third account--- all through the Walmart admin account. When I restarted my computer however, both the walmart admin And guest account were gone and only the third account with a required password (which I do not know) and a blank user account that requires a password remained.
There is no open guest account. I Tried to use the previous walmart username password And the new one I created and neither work. Now I am locked out of my own laptop. I tried booting in safe mode but I still needed the aforementioned password..perhaps I did it incorrectly?
I would like to solve this without having to reinstall windows 7 os (but would like to know how to do that just in case). Let me know if any other information is needed in your assessment.
Alright I recently had to factory restore my gateway laptop which had come with a free windows 7 offer. So since i just restored the computer I figured now was a great time to Upgrade the computer. After it supposedly installed My computer restarted with the option of windows setup or vista so i went with Windows Setup Now I'm at a Log on screen with no Set Password or Username. I never got prompted to make one I first tried my Vista Username and password; nothing.
I have four computer networked all using Win 7 Pro or Ultimate. I set up the network as prompted and set th user name and password. All computers are new to newer Dell running 64bit. Went to setup my HP Media Smart 6TB Server and everything just fine. After all setup everything worked off-line until I wanted to access the server. A Windows Security window opens requesting Network Password and User Name to connect to the HP Server. Well nothing I input does any good ALL my entries are rejected.
This is a total f.. k up as I know what I used for the main network and what I used for the HP Server but neither work. I have tried about everything I can think of and am still locked out. All else fails complete rest and reboot but just wondering if same problem someone else might have seen for answer.
I have subscriptions to several paid websites. One of them does not save username and password. All the other sites save this information, but this is the only one that doesn't. I don't think it's the site. I wonder if it has something to do with my Kaspersky security softwareI use this particular site very often during the day. My old computer with Vista software always saved this information at this site.
Im trying to activate the administrator account, which requires administrative access however when trying to do a Run As on cmd It says "to continue, type and administrator password, and then click yes. Though there is no username and password prompt box appearing so all i can do is click "no".
I had a similar issue where my user name all of a sudden requires a password...i have an ultrabook so i don't have a disc drive. I attempted to resolve the issue by resetting the user password through DOS however it says that the password is blank and it cant be reset?
Long time XP user and I just starting using Windows 7 beta. I really like it so far. Except there's a few things I can't figure out.
I'm trying to connect to my own Wifi Network and it has WEP encryption (I know I should use WPA but for now, let's say i'm stuck with WEP), Windows 7 keeps prompting me for a user name, password after I already entire my WEP key. WHY??? XP never asked me for that. I tried the admin password for my router, didn't work. What is with this new "User name, password" requirement?
Please help. It's really frustrating. The only way around it is to manually add network. There must be something I'm doing something wrong.
I did a factory reset on my computer, when it restarted and came to the login screen it asked for a username and password but it wouldn't accept any that I put in.
I landed here because of a weird issue with my recent upgrade. Once my vista to 7 upgrade was complete I was brought to the user account log on page. One problem. The only account listed is one called "other user" that I never created on vista or 7. Further more it's requiring a user name and password. I had two accounts on vista that don't even exist on 7. I never had a password to any account. I now have a fresh copy of 7 that I can't log on to. Any thoughts?
I have a file sharing server and about 10 client computers that access files on this server.
