View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 32-bit(official RTM, clean install) only 1 account on it which of course is Admin.Sometimes when I press the Windows button + l to lock the screen and come back after a few minutes, enter the password but Windows 7 reports it as wrong password all the time. I have had the same password for 3 years so I know for sure I entered it correctly all in lower case. Also, if I deliberately try to enter a wrong password when my normal one doesn't work, I get the white round circle indicating that its being processed. Then after like 3 minutes, Windows 7 reports it as being the wrong password (the correct behavior from Windows 7 would have been to reject the the wrong password immediately). So I have to do a manual shutdown as it's the option left. I have tried to reinstall Windows 7 many times but this problem just keeps happening randomly.

But i want it to be accessible only after password protection over lan. Both laptops are set to "WORKGROUP" and here are the network settings for the windows 7 one
Network Discovery: ON
File and printer sharing: ON
Public Folder Sharing: OFF
File sharing connections: Enable 40 and 56 bit encryption as well
Password protection sharing: ON
HomeGroup connections: Use user accounts and passwrods to connect to other computers
We moved our offices from one location to another over the weekend. New ISP but everything else is the same.Have a peer-to-peer network with one pc (Windows 7 Professional) acting as the file server. Everyone now has access to internet and we can all "see" each other. For some reason now when we want to connect to Public Folders on our "file server" it is asking for login credentials such as username and password. I have it set to not require a password since we have a mixed environment. It has always worked in the past and I am not sure why it would be requiring that now. I had read somewhere to try and setup an admin username and password that was the same for both computers. I tried that and it was still unsuccessful (Although I still have it set to not require a password).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot remember a password I had set on Windows 7. The user is set to have administrative privileges. How can I reset the password without losing any data. When testing on another machine, i went into local users and groups, right click and it gives me the option to reset password, but a message comes up to say that i might lose information if I reset the password this way:(
How do I go about restoring my password with not losing any indormation and setting?
I have a Win 7 laptop and xp desktop on my network. When I try to access the xp desktop from the win 7 laptop, I sometimes get a dialog box requesting username/password. Other times I get a message box that I do not have permission to access the desktop. Other times still, everything works fine. The xp can access the laptop no problem. The laptop can always see the desktop in the network, the problem is accessing it to share files or use a printer attached to the desktop.I have no passwords on either computer. I have disabled passwords in the advanced network settings for home & work. Registry has LmCompatibilityLevel set to 3 on the laptop
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 ultimate 64bit and a while ago i tampered with file encryption and was dumb enough not to back up my encryption key. However, i remember my password that i used to encrypt those files. I formatted C: and re-installed Win7, just to notice i can't access some of my important files on another drive. So, i thought several possibilities of recovery, and i appreciate if you guys could express if any of the options below are viable.
1) Since i didn't back up my encryption key, where is the original one located? (if i use some recovery program to restore it)
2) Can i use recovery programs to restore pre-format a) user account, or b) encryption key, or c) windows (which actually then works)?
3) I remember the password i used to encrypt the files, so can i just make a new encryption key and kind of import it to my present windows to decrypt those files?
4) Does "Advanced EFS Data Recovery" or some other encryption key recovery tool work for my problem?
So I got my NAS set up with SAMBA sharing with my password so no one else in the local area should be able to access it. The problem is that I do not have a password on my computer and windows 7 is constantly trying to login to the network share with the username and no password on each boot. I have to manually enter my username and password each time I boot and the "remember the password" checkbox doesn't work. One solution is to have a VBScript remove the network share and readd it using the username and password on each boot, but I wonder if there is a more elegant way of doing it than that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedPerformed system restore to factory point when I first recieved the computer. When windows starts, it states that it is rpeparing the system for first time use, however it will get to the welcome screen and prompt for a user name and passwordSystem restore never asked for a user name and password. I tried using the account information from when I setup the computer originally but it does not recognize the username. Also tried to type in administrator for the user name and it says the account has been disabledI have tried to setup user through the command prompt and through the registry using the windows recovery disk. When all this failed I contacted Dell and they said I disabled the admin account during restore (I would like to know how) and I would need the windows installation disk which were not included.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron with Windows 7 that I got from Walmart for christmas. It came with a walmart adminstrative account, a guest account, and another user account. I Changed the administrator username And password, kept the guest one, And deleted the third account--- all through the Walmart admin account. When I restarted my computer however, both the walmart admin And guest account were gone and only the third account with a required password (which I do not know) and a blank user account that requires a password remained.
There is no open guest account. I Tried to use the previous walmart username password And the new one I created and neither work. Now I am locked out of my own laptop. I tried booting in safe mode but I still needed the aforementioned password..perhaps I did it incorrectly?
I would like to solve this without having to reinstall windows 7 os (but would like to know how to do that just in case). Let me know if any other information is needed in your assessment.
Alright I recently had to factory restore my gateway laptop which had come with a free windows 7 offer. So since i just restored the computer I figured now was a great time to Upgrade the computer. All computers are new to newer Dell running 64bit. Went to setup my HP Media Smart 6TB Server and everything just fine. After all setup everything worked off-line until I wanted to access the server. A Windows Security window opens requesting Network Password and User Name to connect to the HP Server. Well nothing I input does any good ALL my entries are rejected.
This is a total f.. k up as I know what I used for the main network and what I used for the HP Server but neither work. I have tried about everything I can think of and am still locked out. All else fails complete rest and reboot but just wondering if same problem someone else might have seen for answer.
