I have 5 different computers running windows 7. I am having a problem with 2 of these computers. Every time I start up the computer or restart it, I have to select my connection and enter my security key. I set it up to automatically connect, but every time the computer starts or restarts, the saved wireless connection information is gone and I have to re-enter it every time.
View 5 RepliesOn Windows 7 Ultimate, when I either power up an external drive, or plug in my phone... windows autoplay pops up every time. I don't mind autoplay, it's not that I want it disabled. I just want it to remember my choice. I always choose 'open explorer to view files' but the choice is forgotten next time, and there's no checkbox to remember it. Found this tool for XP, might it work on 7?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I got my NAS set up with SAMBA sharing with my password so no one else in the local area should be able to access it. The problem is that I do not have a password on my computer and windows 7 is constantly trying to login to the network share with the username and no password on each boot. I have to manually enter my username and password each time I boot and the "remember the password" checkbox doesn't work.One solution is to have a VBScript remove the network share and readd it using the username and password on each boot, but I wonder if there is a more elegant way of doing it than that?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just freshly restored the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition image from the restore DVDs for my Thinkpad. Once I had completely installed all relevant Lenovo and Microsoft updates, I set up Windows XP mode while still logged in as the administrative user, an error. There was the option to remember user credentials in the second panel of the XP Mode Wizard which I selected and verified that the resulting XP Mode VM did autologin as required (integration mode was automatically started as well).
So I logged off that Windows 7 account and started the XP Mode Wizard in my usual standard user account, but this time there was NO "Remember credentials" option available in the second panel of the XP Mode wizard.
I logged back into the administrative Windows 7 account, deleted all the XP Mode files, and started the XP Mode set-up wizard again, and this time there was NO "Remember credentials" in the second panel.
In each case, the VM's "Delete credentials" button in the relevant VM settings page is greyed out, as is the ticked option to remember credentials lower down in that settings page. Integration is auto-started as well.
How can I restore the "remember credentials" function for XP Mode?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 32-bit(official RTM, clean install) only 1 account on it which of course is Admin.Sometimes when I press the Windows button + l to lock the screen and come back after a few minutes, enter the password but Windows 7 reports it as wrong password all the time. I have had the same password for 3 years so I know for sure I entered it correctly all in lower case. Also, if I deliberately try to enter a wrong password when my normal one doesn't work, I get the white round circle indicating that its being processed. Then after like 3 minutes, Windows 7 reports it as being the wrong password (the correct behavior from Windows 7 would have been to reject the the wrong password immediately).So I have to do a manual shutdown as it's the option left. I have tried to reinstall Windows 7 many times but this problem just keeps happening randomly.

I am able to connect to it and use the internet with no problem; however, Windows 7 will not remember the connection. Every time I restart the computer I have to click the network SSID on the list and choose "Connect" and the it prompts me for the network key. 1) Since i didn't back up my encryption key, where is the original one located? (if i use some recovery program to restore it)
2) Can i use recovery programs to restore pre-format a) user account, or b) encryption key, or c) windows (which actually then works)?
3) I remember the password i used to encrypt the files, so can i just make a new encryption key and kind of import it to my present windows to decrypt those files?
4) Does "Advanced EFS Data Recovery" or some other encryption key recovery tool work for my problem?

I use an eikon biometric fingerprint device. I've run into this problem because I cannot backup my notebook on my external hard drive. So, I use my network to copy all files from the notebook to my desktop. Then I backup the desktop to the external hard drive (USP). When the transfer is complete the desktop asks for the password on my notebook and I don't know it. Therefore I'm not sure that the files I have transferred from the notebook are being backed up on the desktop. Again, all I need to know is how to find out what my notebook user (administrator) password is.

Two laptops / home premium / windows 7.Now when I try to access it I am prompted for a Network user name and password, the same promt giving details of my domain. This is not my homegroup password, I know where and how to find / use it. I have renamed pc's tried setting up homegroup again etc etc. Incidently I cant change the share options on any of my folders now, they are all locked to 'Nobody'.Can anyone help as it appears to have support from Microsoft for their product I'll have to pay pardon my igronance but if I sold a product with constant updates I wont charge for the support.

4 PCs - One Vista, 2 Windows 7 Home Premium, 1 Windows 7 Ultimate. All see each other. All have appropriate folders shared.
Try accessing A from B and I get "Enter Network Password (to connect to B)". I never set one up to start with, so why is it asking me for it. How do I access/change something I never set?
Try accessing B from A - I see the PC, and the folders I want but trying to access them results in "You do not have permissionto access folder names Contact your network administrator - who he? Obviously me but I don't know what the answer is!
Trying similar things with the other two PCs in the mix results in various permutations of the same problem.
I have tried all the various links suggested through Networking and Help, but most of the actions seem to be boxes to click to make the PCs try to sort themselves out. When it fails I can't find a manual way of trying to sort it out.
Any suitable tutorials that may help? Couldn't see any.
At present, I'm running a dual-boot of XP Pro and Vista Home Basic. I wan't to overwrite Windows Vista with a clean install of Windows 7, rather than an upgrade. I wan't to know if I go through with this, will XP still be selectable in the Windows 7 boot menu? And if not, how to remedy this.
