Setup During Install Creating The Administrator Name And Password
Mar 12, 2011
I just purchased a new HP laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium install setup on the hard drive. I started and completed the installation. But I don't remember during the install asking me for an Administrator Name & Password. After the installation was completed I did the Recovery Disks, but have not yet rebooted the laptop. When is the Admin Name and Password created? I remember seeing a Rick-PC during the install, but I don't remember it asking for me to input a password. Am I fretting prematurely, or do I need to reboot, or can I use the Recovery Disks to start over?
I've been using an old PC with Windows XP. And I checked out 3 books on Windows 7 at the Library.

I am trying to install Windows 7 enterprise. When it gets to the step to enter the computer name and usually at that same step you setup the username. This installation does not have that step and when I click next it finishes the install reboots and brings me to the login screen. I can log in because there is no username or password set.

I have two laptops - a new one with Win 7 HP 32bit and an old one with Win 7 HP 64 bit
The new one with Win 7 HP 32bit came with 4gb of ram which is a bit silly since 32bit Win 7 HP can only use 3gb of that, but from what I understand, the serial on the underside can also be used to activate the 64bit version, which would recognise all the ram
Now, even though I've paid for two Win 7 HP licenses, I don't actually have a Win 7 disc, only the factory reset discs (which I had to burn myself when I first turned on the computer - which is pretty shocking really!!!)
But I digress. Is there any way Win 7 HP 64bit on my new laptop WITHOUT paying for it (again) I know XP let you make custom (slipstreamed) XP discs from installations but I can't find a way to do it in Win 7

So far my Windows 7 experience has been almost exactly the same as my Vista experience. After doing a clean install I was left with 3 directories that appeared to be GUID names -- i.e. "as1234sdfaek9097532lkhgfasf32424". Ran some Windows 7 updates and got another one -- 4 of these "mysterious" directories in total. So I was successfull at deleting 3 out of the 4, but the 4th directory just didn't permit me (Administrator) to delete it (Access Denied). So once again I'm in Google research land trying solve a problem that shouldn't exist (I feel sorry for the normal human race that actually try to use this POS Windows 7). I tried Safe Mode, I tried creating the "real" Administrator account and logging into that, I tried cmd "Run as Administrator" and RMDIR, still "Access Denied".
So I look at the "owner" of this directory (it should be me since this was a new install and I'm the only person that uses my PC" -- turns out the owner is "Unknown" followed by S-1-5-21...1003 -- WTF who is this owner, all I did was a fresh install and run Windows 7 Updates. So, digging some more I figure out how to take "ownership" of this directory -- key being to also "include sub-directories" and finally I'm able to delete the directory. One would think that since I installed the OS, and I creatd my Admin account, that the OS would realize that I'm the OWNER,What a LAME security implemenation, the same lame one that is in Vista.Clearly, Microsoft just aren't gettin' it -- your average user isn't going to figure this out or most likely will just leave the Windows 7 updates directories/garbage on their drives (some of these garbage folders are huge, 2-3GB).t's mind boggling that Windows 7 really is just Vista SP3. It took less than an hour for me to run into yet again problems with Microsoft's OS and once again I'm wasting my time Googling for solutions.
As far as compatibility, try installing AOE III on Windows 7 - oh it doesn't and Windows 7 even warns you it will not work and "Check for solutions" -- I check the solution isdrum roll ... there is NO solution - one of Microsoft's own games!!! I'm cracking up at just how lame Windows 7 is, I'm sure it will sell to those that think the interface is better (pretty always sells), but deep down it's clearly the same old junk that is Vista.

I purchased a new HP laptop which included Windows 7 Home & Premium. I did the install, however, I do not remember during the install asking me to create the Administrator ID along with a password. I did create the Recovery Disks, but have not yet rebooted. When is the Administrators ID created? I do remember seeing an ID that may have been the default Administrator ID (Rick-PC). But I don't remember typing a password. If so, what are my options to either create an Administrator ID and a password? Or if it was created, can I find out what the password was or change it?

I have forgotten my Administrator password. I have tried a couple of the free password crackers, but no luck. Also tried the command net user, with no luck; I get the "Access Denied" message whenever I try this. I've looked at a lot of the threads here, but they all seem to be just a little bit different. All I have access to is this other user profile, and I can't install anything on it without the Admin password. I have the Windows DVD, and have tried a boot repair, but it tells me that the OS is booting correctly (which it is). Where to from here ? It's wasted a helluva lot of time, and I just seem to be going round in circles. How can I give this profile I am using Admin rights ? Don't seem to be able to do anything without the Admin password.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 32bit. I used System Tools and did a Disk Cleanup. However, when I tried to boot it up after the process, it asked for my Administrator Password. Why we have to have an Administrator User Account, I have no idea--especially when you can't get into it. I don't remember putting a password on for the Administrator Account. I have another User Account that I can get on the computer with, but I have pictures, videos, documents, etc. on the Administrator Account that I now cannot recover. Is there anything I can do, other than reinstalling Windows?

I changed my administrator password on my Dell Inspiron N5110 last and can't remember it. Prior to changing it I set-up a guest account, I never set-up a user account. Will a password reset disk work on an administrator password? I can't even restore my computer to a past date or factory installation without knowing my administrator password.

I've started to use my old laptop as our main one is currently broken down, sadly I have forgotten my administrator password on my laptop and can't access the files originally saved in that area nor do I have the privileges of using the administrator account.Another mistake is that I do not have a password reset key, or what ever it is called. So I have no idea on how to access my account.

i have three users on my start up page 2 administrators and 1 standard user. For the 2 administrators users i have forgotten the passwords. For the standard user i still have access to and can logon to the HDD but can not access any program files or even do any windows up dates due to USER ACCOUNT CONTROL i've been trying to access threw COMMAND PROMPTS but im not too familiar with the prompts terminology. and have gotten very frustrated with the CMD PROMPTS i know that if i can access threw the CMD i can remove the password for one or both of the administrator accounts an reset them threw the user accounts in the control panel i just cant seem to get past the UAC asking for my administrator password (WHICH I HAVE FORGOTTEN) nor can i seem to master the CMD PROMPTS either. also i no longer have the windows 7 disc which i used to install windows on the HDD.

I have a windows 7 ultimate edition 32 bit and linux mint 11 Katya on dual boot, I forgot my password for the only user account on windows 7 and that account was an administrator, unfortunately, i never created the password reset disk, after trying for a day or 2 to figure the password out, i started using mint to my advantage, i downloaded and installed a tool called "Chntpw", it's supposed to remove the password entirely or change it and it's able to unlock locked accounts like the guest account, i used the following command after changing the directory to my Windows/System32/config:
Sudo chntpw -u <myusername> sam
for some reason my SAM file is in lower case letters, anyways after using that to remove the password on my account, it says it was successful and i saved it and even checked it again and it says that it no longer requires a password, but when i rebooted my pc into windows 7, it still asked for a password, and after trying to a few other things like unlocking the administrator and guest accounts, 3 things happened: my account's profile picture changed, the password hint i typed disappeared and switch user option appeared, i tried using it but it for administrator it requires a password even though chntpw says it doesn't, and for the guest account it says that the method i'm using to log in isn't allowed.so i'm basically stuck out of my windows 7, and i'm doing my best to avoid a reinstall cuz my windows installation is 2.5 years old and it's working real fine and has alot programs, personal data and drivers installed.
