How To Setup Bios To Be Able To Install From A USB Device?

Jun 14, 2011

I recently read an article about using a USB thumb drive to install Windows 7.Set Up a USB Drive as a Bootable Device to Install Windows 7 IT Professionals.I would like more information about how to do this. After reading the article the questions I had were:Where do I get the Windows 7b ISO file? Can I make it from my present install disk or do I have to buy it? How do I setup my bios to be able to install from a USB device? I am not sure that is possible on the PC I have.

How To Setup BIOS

Dec 30, 2010

I have two SATA hard drives. I was poking around in the BIOS yesterday and noticed that they were setup IDE instead of AHCI. I am not sure what either does and did not want to change anything without asking. When I first got my PC, it had XP installed, so I am thinking that is why IDE is set. Do I need to change it to AHCI? I am not having any problems. Would it be of any great advantage to change it? I understand that after the OS is installed, it is a problem to switch to AHCI.

AHCI Bios Setup For SSD?

Jan 10, 2012

I have a SSD drive & want to use the AHCI Mode & Native Command Quening from Windows 7 Pro X64. I performed the Regedit by setting the START paramater in the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesmsahci from "3" to "0" - and then making the switch in the BIOS from IDE to AHCI. Windows still would not load! The Bios screen would not load Windows 7.I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Board that has a Intel P45 Chipset & I installed the latest Intel Sata drivers before I tried the change. I had to use my Acronis True Image program to get Windows 7 back up & running. My Board has 6 Intel Sata ports & two Gigabyte ports on the board. I don't use the Gigabyte ports & they were left in the IDE mode in the Bios when it failed. The Bios screen loaded differently but failed as I said to load Windows 7.If I perform a clean install will Windows 7 load & install in the AHCI/Native modes with the bios setting to AHCI & not IDE? I have the SSD for programs & a 1TB HDD for storage & backup.

Cannot Boot With Restore CD - Setup Go Straight To BIOS

May 30, 2012

I have a real problem booting with my Restore CD. It doesn't let me go further then the bios. It tells me I can select ESC and it will give me the boot selection pop up, and when I do that it only says that boot selection has been selected but doesn't work. It also gives me an option to select F2 for setup but takes me straight to the bios. I set CD/DVD as first boot priority but it didn't work.

RAID Array Setup - How To Get Into BIOS And Change Settings

Jun 21, 2012

I am getting ready to set up a RAID Array but this is my first time doing anything with RAID. I know how to get into the BIOS and change settings and I know with two hard drives, I should do RAID 1. However, I just have a few questions before I do this. First off, I am an idiot and did not notice that my first hard drive I got when I built the computer has a 32 MB Cache:

Caviar Blue 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive WD10EALX - OEM

I noticed it only had a 32 MB CACHE when I went to get another one. I then asked for the version with a 64 MB CACHE (WD1002FAEX), paid for it and left. Will these two hard drives work together in RAID if they have different sized caches?

Installing Windows 7 Onto USB Drive - BIOS Setup For Bootup?

Aug 18, 2010

I need to install either windows XP or windows 7 on my USB stick so I can boot my computer from the USB and use it like a normal installation. Articles I read tell you how to install Windows on a USB but not how to allow your computer to boot from the USB like it would be a HDD. I know how to set up my BIOS and I don't need an explanation in that respect I just need a step by step guide or at least a good guide on how to install either XP or 7 onto a USB, not from I've done that 1,000,000 times.

Possible To Image One Device After Its Been Setup

Mar 27, 2012

I was wondering if it was possible to image one device after it's been setup and re-image the other 24 tablets with the created image. I know its *possible* but will there be issues with the Windows 7 key/activation process? Each device has an OEM key/product ID in place and I don't want to wipe it if at all possible. I intend to use Macrium Reflect Free Edition, are there better options for what I'm trying to do? We'd also be using the original image as an emergency restore just in-case a tech in the field decides to get into some system aspects that they ought not have access to (taken care of but some of our guys are fairly crafty).

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device - Cannot Get Into BIOS

Or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". I am assuming, since I cant enter the bios too tell it where to boot from, Id just put in the Operating System disc and let it install itself. When it says "boot media" it means the Operating System right?

No Device Drivers Found - Setting Drive Configuration To IDE In BIOS

Jan 13, 2013

I recently bought two Sandisk SSD's to run in RAID for my rapidly aging computer. I'm currently installing windows 7 (x64) on my new drives and I get the "no device drivers found" message that has haunted me in the past. I remember previously I resolved this issue on my Samsung F1 by setting the drive configuration in my BIOS to IDE, of course, this is not possible now as it must be set to RAID.

Windows 7 Setup Not Recognizing HDD - No Device Drivers Found

Feb 3, 2011

I'm trying to create a dual boot with win7 and ubuntu. I want to install win7 first and then the other os. So, using Gparted, if I create a partition, formatted or not, win7 setup will not recognize my hdd and i get the above error message. "No device drivers found". If I set my hdd space as unallocated, it gets recognized, but setup tells me it's unable to install windows into any of the drives. No further information is delivered.

The thing is I can easily install ubuntu and set it up. So there's nothing wrong with my hdd. Why would windows not recognize it and request for the drivers? I went to the Hitachi website, but they tell me there are no drivers available, since all OSs already have that information. I wonder why I'm having such a hard time installing win7. Ubuntu clearly works and installs smoothly and no errors occur.

More info:
- Installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
- HDD (500gb) is empty, expect for one OEM recovery partition (12gb)

Install Windows 7 From USB Into The BIOS?

Oct 17, 2011

I'm building a new computer without a CD drive, because I realized I have no use for it. I know that you can install W7 from a USB into a PC with an existing OS, but obviously as I am building the computer, I will have to install the OS into the BIOS.  I am getting a Biostar A880G+, but I'm not sure what BIOS it uses. Note: when I asked this question on Yahoo! Answers, many people thought that I was trying to update the BIOS with a USB, which is already a feature of the A880G+, but that's not what I am doing!

"DVD Drive Device Drivers Missing" In Windows 7 Installation Setup

May 30, 2010

my attempt to install windows 7 today ended in ! When I boot from the DVD, choose the Language and press "Install" I get an Error message stating "A DVD/CD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver CD/Floppy please insert it now..."

Here are my specifications-

HP Pavilion p6126f Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion p6126f Desktop PC - HP technical support (Austria - English)

I have experienced this same problem with Vista x86 and x64. I am trying to clean install Windows 7 64bit.

I put the drivers on a thumb drive and Browse to it when 7 prompts me. Funny thing is, Windows 7 reads all the other files on the thumb drive like .psds, .flas, .skps, and so on.... but it just plays stupid to the actual drivers for the motherboard/chipset. The system rejects XP and I was forced to put Ubuntu on it. Ubuntu sucks, nothing runs. I know all about WINE to get some programs to run but I use the entire Adobe Suite.

Updating BIOS For Windows 7 Install?

Oct 16, 2012

I want to say that this computer has the Windows 8 beta on it as its only OS. It's very clunky and full of bugs and whatnot and I want it off so I'm putting windows 7 on it and erasing everything on it. This shouldn't be a problem for these forums since everything I"m having problems with has nothing to do with the OS. Besides installing. now, basically this computers main parts are better than my own (it's not that great anyway) It's motherboard is x65 bit, it had 2 gb 800 mhz ram (my computer had the same amount but only 667mhz) it's processor is 3.00 GHz (mine is 2.3 GHz)So basically it's a better computer for the main parts. I've not looked at the PSU but I'm sure it's better aswell. The only thing that isn't better is the graphics card. It's a 7 series while mine is a 9. So, basically I want to put the best of my computer to this better one. Mine feels newer (since I keep it dusted so it sounds really smooth, while this one sounds a bit old. But either way I want to install windows on it. The only problem is that the BIOS is inoperable. When loading into the BIOS the keyboard no longer seems to work. Its light go off. But every once in a while on trying, I can get it into the boot menu so I can move it to put from CD rom. But at this point, no matter what, it won't let me scroll through the options. So naturally I went to google and came with some results that it could be the BIAS needing an update OR taking the CMOS battery out and allowing it to load default values. I tried the latter first, overnight actually. This brought it to default settings, but no luck. It didn't help the keyboard. Now, I'm on the "update BIAS" part. But I can't even seem to find the right update for this motherboard. I tried installing CPU-z but this Windows 8 needs framework to run the software since it's not made for W8. So I just look around on the MB myself and find the Model Number. It's D33C98. I googled it and mostly game up with Gigabyte results but I can't find BIOS updates for this model anywhere. I see manuels but I can't find much of anything for this MB.I thought about just putting the HD in my current computer and loading windows 7 on to it and putting back in the other one so I could just use my computers BIOS, but I've heard this isn't the best thing to do.

BootMgr Is MIA If Install HDD Selected In BIOS

Oct 15, 2010

After an attempt to dual boot my system with 32 bit OS, I couldn't boot back into 64, it wasn't even an option. So, I figured I must have messed up the install and it was time for a clean one. Now I get an option to dual boot windows 7 or windows 7 (recovered).

Recovered is the one I want, but if I switch my boot HDD to the one that Windows 7 (recovered) is on, bootmgr is suddenly MIA.

I have not a clue how to restore it, and I even wiped the second HDD clean.

Setup Freezes During Install

Aug 30, 2010

Ok, I tried to install Windows 7 a while back, and it would freeze every time during 'expanding files' section. I also run into similar problems when it comes to installing Vista. I've gotten Vista to install maybe 2 times and both times it ran fine for a little then it refused to boot (not sure where in the process anymore).I checked the Windows Vista / 7 compatibility guide on Microsoft's page and everything i have SHOULD work, so I'm not thinking its hardware issues.I read another post on these forums that had someone saying it worked when they swapped out the dvds when it froze. I don't believe its the disc either, because both Vista and 7 had no problems installing on other computers that i tested it on. Running a Virtualbox with 768mb RAM assigned to it installed flawlessly as well. Why does my install keep freezing on the machine I plan to activate Windows with, but not on any other?
