SATA HDD Recognized In BIOS But Not By Windows 7 Pro

Jul 19, 2012

I installed an old 160GB Seagate Barracuda into my Win7Pro64 machine for some extra storage room. At first it worked fine. I cleaned it out and did a quick format in Windows.

Now Windows does recognize it at all. I see it in the BIOS but it won't show up in Windows.

Reformatted HDD Not Recognized In Bios Or Windows 7 Install

May 19, 2012

A friend of mine's computer stopped working a few days ago. When turned on they only get a message to change the boot sequence or insert boot media.

I took out their HDD and attached it as a external to my computer. I then backed up all their files (the drive appears to be working fine.) not being sure what the issue was I decided to reformat the drive and re install a clean version of win 7.

After finally getting the drive completely erased I reformatted as NTFS and installed it back into the computer. At this point The bios did not recognize any HDDs or optical drives (I had the win 7 disk in the DVD drive).

I created a bootable USB win 7 disk which the computer did recognize and initiated set up. At this point the set up process does not recognize any drives.

Not sure what to do to get it to recognize the drive. My initial thoughts are formatted incorrectly.

SSD Is Not Recognized As Bootable By The BIOS

Jul 28, 2012

I have purchased an adapter that holds a drive or SSD and fits instead of the DVD drive. When connected windows from the main drive recognise it as second drive and all is hanky-dory the issue is that i want to install windows on the SSD but the SSD is not recognized as bootable by the BIOS and after seeing it is a common issue with no solution on many web pages i have left wondering if there is a way of booting windows from thehard drive but somehow diverting it to the SSD - maybe hard linking all system files or something...

HD Not Recognized At All If AHCI Enabled In Bios

Jan 1, 2012

I want to install Windows 7 on a clean drive.... but I cant even get to the install options, because the drive is not recognized when i turn on the machine. It stalls, even before I can get into the BIOS settings.I need to manuallly disconnect the drive > then change back to IDE mode inside the bios and now I am able to install Windows. The funny thing... I have a backup image of a running Windows 7 installation and if I copy it onto the exactly same drive it runs without problems in AHCI mode another weird thing.... i already installed Windows 7 in IDE mode and thought that maybe later, once the installation is done i could switch back to AHCI.well, same thing.... once ahci mode was enabled in the bios, the drive was not recognized anymore.i also tried to install the chipset drivers from within windows and got a "the system does not meet the minumum requirements."

RAID 1 Not Recognized In OS After BIOS Update

Feb 1, 2013

First off I am running Win 7 on a primary SSD, and have 2 1TB HDD in RAID 1 for storage. I have been running this setup fine for a while now. I recently updated my BIOS (P8P67) using the EZ Flash utility from USB per the following steps:

-Restore defaults
-Flash new BIOS
-Restore defaults
-Reset SATA mode to RAID

Everything went fine, and I verified that my BIOS was seeing the 2 HDD as 1 volume. The Intel RAID controller shows the mirrored volume and 2 drives on bootup, all fine. However, when I get into windows, the RAID volume is not listed in the Intel RST software, device manager or disk management.

I've built an 128gb Samsung (830 Series) SSD into my Acer RL70 Nettop. It was empty and when I tried to boot the nettop there was only the message "ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed". Then I connected the SSD to another computer and installed windows on it and it worked on that PC. When I put it pack into the Nettop i got the same error again. In the Bios, it shows the SSD correctly.

Installing Windows 7 Onto USB Drive - BIOS Setup For Bootup?

Aug 18, 2010

I need to install either windows XP or windows 7 on my USB stick so I can boot my computer from the USB and use it like a normal installation. Articles I read tell you how to install Windows on a USB but not how to allow your computer to boot from the USB like it would be a HDD. I know how to set up my BIOS and I don't need an explanation in that respect I just need a step by step guide or at least a good guide on how to install either XP or 7 onto a USB, not from I've done that 1,000,000 times.

Hard Drive Recognized In BIOS But Not In Win7

hard drive registers in BIOS, but not in the windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installation screen. Any questions I will answer RIGHT away. Oh dear God please help me. I took it in to a repair shop and I think I knew more than they did and left without any substantive help (but a $40 bill ). Do I need to format the HD? Would drivers help? All the websites say everything should be compatible - no problem - but nothing here.

Hard Disk Drive Not Recognized During XP Or Win 7 Setup

Nov 12, 2009

I recently purchased a WD Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5" HDD for my Gateway MX6920 notebook. I wanted to upgrade to this larger, faster HDD and replaced it into my notebook and attempted to install Windows 7. During setup it stopped and gave the error 0xc00000e9 for "unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive ......".

I tried installing Windows XP and it gets to a blue screen to choose a Repair of Windows or a fresh install. Choosing either one returns a blue screen that says system can not find a Hard disk connected.

I put this drive into an enclosure and formatted it in another computer. Also it is recognized in BIOS. I'm running BIOS version 77.08 if relevant.

How To Setup BIOS

Dec 30, 2010

I have two SATA hard drives. I was poking around in the BIOS yesterday and noticed that they were setup IDE instead of AHCI. I am not sure what either does and did not want to change anything without asking. When I first got my PC, it had XP installed, so I am thinking that is why IDE is set. Do I need to change it to AHCI? I am not having any problems. Would it be of any great advantage to change it? I understand that after the OS is installed, it is a problem to switch to AHCI.

AHCI Bios Setup For SSD?

Jan 10, 2012

I have a SSD drive & want to use the AHCI Mode & Native Command Quening from Windows 7 Pro X64. I performed the Regedit by setting the START paramater in the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesmsahci from "3" to "0" - and then making the switch in the BIOS from IDE to AHCI. Windows still would not load! The Bios screen would not load Windows 7.I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Board that has a Intel P45 Chipset & I installed the latest Intel Sata drivers before I tried the change. I had to use my Acronis True Image program to get Windows 7 back up & running. My Board has 6 Intel Sata ports & two Gigabyte ports on the board. I don't use the Gigabyte ports & they were left in the IDE mode in the Bios when it failed. The Bios screen loaded differently but failed as I said to load Windows 7.If I perform a clean install will Windows 7 load & install in the AHCI/Native modes with the bios setting to AHCI & not IDE? I have the SSD for programs & a 1TB HDD for storage & backup.

RAID Array Setup - How To Get Into BIOS And Change Settings

Jun 21, 2012

I am getting ready to set up a RAID Array but this is my first time doing anything with RAID. I know how to get into the BIOS and change settings and I know with two hard drives, I should do RAID 1. However, I just have a few questions before I do this. First off, I am an idiot and did not notice that my first hard drive I got when I built the computer has a 32 MB Cache:

Caviar Blue 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive WD10EALX - OEM

I noticed it only had a 32 MB CACHE when I went to get another one. I then asked for the version with a 64 MB CACHE (WD1002FAEX), paid for it and left. Will these two hard drives work together in RAID if they have different sized caches?

Resolution Not Recognized - HDMI Connection Not Recognized?

Sep 29, 2012

I have a Zotac 570 gtx connected via HDMI cable to my Asus VE258 LED monitor.I've had this video card and monitor setup working before with the exact cable, card and monitor.Something changed in my system where the monitor is no longer recognized for what it is. When i go into my Nvidia control panel under change resolution 1.Digital Display, 2. DVI-PC Display - Resolution 1080p 59 Hz. There is no DVI cable plugged into the computer and the monitor is set on HDMI input. When i go to my Audio playback devices, the HDMI connection does not show up at all, even as disabled or disconnected. When i go to play a game (Diablo 3, Skyrim, Farcry2) The game either doesn't open (skyrim) giving me the error that resolution is not recognized (but then does not give me any resolutions to choose from in the options menu) or will play (Diablo 3) but is stuck on extremely low resolutions with only 2 options.

Here's what i've done. Contacted Zotac and had them send me the most recent drivers for the video card. Uninstalled originals and re-installed the new ones. Contacted Asus (they say its not the monitor as long as its set on HDMI input) I am unable to find a driver that will make my computer (Windows 7) recognize the monitor for what it is. Zotac failed after their attempt with the driver and told me to RMA the card. So i did... i waited a month.

Bios Clock Time Changes After Every Restart Even After Replacing Bios

Aug 23, 2011

I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.

I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.

I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
