I was working in Outlook 2010 this morning.I clicked on an e-mail and the mouse was disabled.I was unable to do anything and then the BIOS setup screen came up.I escaped and did a normal startup from the Windows screen that came up and was able to work normally and shut down normally. How should I diagnose and address the problem? I was using a Pentium 5 Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Professional.
View 1 RepliesI have two SATA hard drives. I was poking around in the BIOS yesterday and noticed that they were setup IDE instead of AHCI. I am not sure what either does and did not want to change anything without asking. When I first got my PC, it had XP installed, so I am thinking that is why IDE is set. Do I need to change it to AHCI? I am not having any problems. Would it be of any great advantage to change it? I understand that after the OS is installed, it is a problem to switch to AHCI.

Windows still would not load! The Bios screen would not load Windows 7.I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Board that has a Intel P45 Chipset & I installed the latest Intel Sata drivers before I tried the change. I had to use my Acronis True Image program to get Windows 7 back up & running.My Board has 6 Intel Sata ports & two Gigabyte ports on the board. I don't use the Gigabyte ports & they were left in the IDE mode in the Bios when it failed.The Bios screen loaded differently but failed as I said to load Windows 7.If I perform a clean install will Windows 7 load & install in the AHCI/Native modes with the bios setting to AHCI & not IDE? I have the SSD for programs & a 1TB HDD for storage & backup.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a real problem booting with my Restore CD. It doesn't let me go further then the bios. It tells me I can select ESC and it will give me the boot selection pop up, and when I do that it only says that boot selection has been selected but doesn't work. It also gives me an option to select F2 for setup but takes me straight to the bios. I set CD/DVD as first boot priority but it didn't work.

Need to Make DDR3 2400 Stable. I have been able to get my system to post and sometimes get into windows having my ram set to DDR3 2400. However I have yet to make it run stable enough to trust it. IE blue screens. Does anyone know simple things to check and what to set into the bios?

I know how to get into the BIOS and change settings and I know with two hard drives, I should do RAID 1. However, I just have a few questions before I do this. First off, I am an idiot and did not notice that my first hard drive I got when I built the computer has a 32 MB Cache:

I noticed it only had a 32 MB CACHE when I went to get another one. I then asked for the version with a 64 MB CACHE (WD1002FAEX), paid for it and left. Will these two hard drives work together in RAID if they have different sized caches?
I need to install either windows XP or windows 7 on my USB stick so I can boot my computer from the USB and use it like a normal installation. Articles I read tell you how to install Windows on a USB but not how to allow your computer to boot from the USB like it would be a HDD. I know how to set up my BIOS and I don't need an explanation in that respect I just need a step by step guide or at least a good guide on how to install either XP or 7 onto a USB, not from I've done that 1,000,000 times.

I have a brand new Desktop PC - running Windows 7 - 8gb ram - iTB HD and I have to say it is running perfectly well. However, when I shut it down yesterday I noticed that the PC restarted itself and stated ' windows had recovered from an unexpected shut down' blue screen, and it gave me details of a mini dump file for the error. The mini dump file is empty so nothing reported there. In the event log it states the issue was 'kernel' as follows: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.My husband suggested I shut down too soon before allowing ie to close properly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay so lately I've noticed that my PC isn't displaying the BIOS splash screen anymore and skips straight to the Windows login screen.It didn't really bother me until today when I wanted to boot into Ubuntu and I couldn't select which OS I wanted to use.I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the BIOS itself since I unplugged all the peripherals except the speakers, removed all the RAM and the BIOS did beep repeatedly. And given enough time, I can boot into windows (and only windows ).Apparently people have had this problem before and all the solutions I've read such as "Press 'del' to go into your BIOS!" really doesn't help since I can't see anything in my BIOS menu.The only solution that made sense to me was that my CMOS battery could be dying. I haven't changed my rig since I built it in 2009. The only significant event that happened recently might be that Windows updated itself.

From last two days my laptop is not working whenever I turn on my laptop it show me the messege of setup repair automatecally then it start processing and after few min it show me finish option and when I click on finish it shutdown automatecally this happens again and again. If I try to start on safe mode I can't it againg start that process again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I am now successfully dual booting vista and windows 7. No problems whatsoever with the installs or dual boot process.
However, randomly one day after just shutting my computer down and starting it back up again everything about the bios and subsequent loading of the bios and the windows loader screen (where you choose your OS to boot) is PAINFULLY chuggy and slow in response. I have never seen anything like it in all my years of computer experience.
The weird thing is, once it boots into an OS, be it vista or windows 7...I notice absolutely zero slowdown or chuggy issues within the OS. I have ran benchmarks and they are all equal to any other time I've ran them. Indicating that whatever this issue is, it's not affecting the OS itself.
I have hard reset the cmos and completely wiped the bios settings and this chuggy and slow issue still plagues me. I went in and was resetting all my bios settings and every single keytroke took 2 seconds + to activate anything.
Any idea as to what is causing this? Or has anyone even HEARD of this kind of thing happening before? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Windows 7 is installed, however, I woke up this morning, turned on the laptop to find nothing but a black screen. No F keys will work nor escape key. Computer does not recognize a bootable disk. Can any one tell me what the problem is and how it can be resolved? I don't know if it is the hard drive or the motherboard. I don't know where to start looking since I have never encountered this problem.

Now when I want to reinstall my system (because of serious virus) my PC doesn't accept booting win DVD and I can't see any port messages. Can't acces BIOS. I tried taping 'delete' , 'F2' , 'TAB' , 'F8' non of it works. Maybe it works because when I tried taping them I couldn't see anything on screen 'no signal to monitor' and system didn't start at all. It takes 15 minutes to start system now without touching anything.It's new computer connected to plasma screen via HDMI. Whole spec is ni my profile.

Problem:
When I boot from the Windows 7 DVD the installation screen comes up in 8 colours only and the screen res looks like 640x480 on a screen that normally runs at 1600 x 1024 (this is what the original Windows XP installation ran).
Windows XP ran fine and did not have any of these problems (with the installer).
I am reluctant to proceed with the installer as I would prefer to iron out this problem before pushing on with the complete install.
Has anyone else seen this?
Just since yesterday my laptop was attacked by some kind of malware that tries to scare me into buying their products and hiding all my files. I managed to unhide all my files but somehow the virus still remains. I tried every solution on the web to get rid of this virus but to no avail **** does not work at all.And to top it all this particular virus shuts down all my usb ports and disabling me to connect to another computer to share files even. So I decided to reformat my laptop. But the thing is when after I clicked system restore, the thing shut down. Ok fine everything was normal and it started up as usual, but the next thing that happened was that it was stuck on a black screen. I thought the program was processing but I was wrong ( I've never reformatted a computer so please bare with my sillyness ) I've tried many many times by shutting down and trying to click on system restore but still same result, stuck on a black screen. And pressing F11 doesn't really help either, it will still result in a black screen. I've tried to use the system recovery disc but it didn't work at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe first one is the BIOS boot up screen that usually leads me to Windows. A few months ago, this vanished. I don't know if it was due to a version of Windows 7 i installed or something but whenever I turned on the PC, the screen would appear blank for a few minutes then go straight to the Windows welcome screen. I thought it was weird, but I didn't see a problem since it went to Windows so I disregarded it, which looking back is kind of dumb but I didn't want to risk doing something to the computer in the process.So a few weeks ago I was trying to partition the hard drive so I can install the Windows 8 preview on it, rebooted the computer and...nothing. It wouldn't take me to Windows to there's clearly a problem with the hard drive. I could always get a new one, but there's still the problem of the vanishing BIOS screen.

When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.

It is sort of centered with a black background How can I set it in full screen please ? It is really bothering me. My Graphic card is Gainward Gtx 275. The motherboard is Asus P6T SE.
Ps. There is no option on the monitor that says fullscreen or widescreen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI built a new gaming PC about a month and a half ago and its been running fine up until now. I turned it on a couple of days ago and Win 7 was freezing up. The mouse cursor was a blue wheel and I couldn't click or do anything. I couldn't even access the command line and ctrl+alt+del didn't work either. At this point it did boot up in safe mode. I powered it down and now it won't boot past BIOS. I reseated everything and checked all the connections and everything seems good.
