I have a Compaq f500 that was running Vista home premium. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate. It went thru the install with no problems. When it got to the screen when you put in your name I discovered that the keyboard doesnt work. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and it doesn't work either. Also cant select safemode or anything that requires use of the keyboard to enter.

Smallish yet irritating problem with my Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit install - Autoplay doesn't work, and hasn't since I was forced to reinstall a couple of weeks back.Doesn't work for discs inserted, USB flash drives, memory cards, external HDDs plugged in etc (Firewire & ExpressCard/34 not tested). I have of course gone to the Autoplay settings and restored defaults, also tried setting every category (DVD, CD, etc) at "Ask me every time". No luck. I was working fine on the same OS before before I had to reinstall fresh, also on x86 version of Win 7, and on Vista.Nothing wrong with the USB ports/disc drive, inserted media is still detected.

Is there any way to use a windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade disc as a installation disc? Or would I have to go out and get another Windows installation disc and then use the upgrade disc?

I have put the d drive at the top of the list in the boot set up, but the system repair disc doesn't show up and I just get a blank screen. When I open safe mode, some windows files load up and the safe mode screen opens but not with a way to start up windows. Safe mode with networking or command prompt doesn't work either.

I have two laptops - a new one with Win 7 HP 32bit and an old one with Win 7 HP 64 bit
The new one with Win 7 HP 32bit came with 4gb of ram which is a bit silly since 32bit Win 7 HP can only use 3gb of that, but from what I understand, the serial on the underside can also be used to activate the 64bit version, which would recognise all the ram
Now, even though I've paid for two Win 7 HP licenses, I don't actually have a Win 7 disc, only the factory reset discs (which I had to burn myself when I first turned on the computer - which is pretty shocking really!!!)
But I digress. Is there any way Win 7 HP 64bit on my new laptop WITHOUT paying for it (again) I know XP let you make custom (slipstreamed) XP discs from installations but I can't find a way to do it in Win 7

I have a new Dell Inspiron 620MT with Windows 7 and have just run the Setup procedures. This included the creation of 3 DVD's for Recovery Disks. My hard drive has 33 GB of content as delivered, including Microsoft Office Home and Business and several "freebies" Dell includes. The setup told me my 3 DVD's include 10.88GB, I "think" but am not sure Setup told me it was using compression to load the DVD's. What is the content of these 3 DVD's? I've called Dell multiple times and get conflicting, contradictory and changing answers to my question? I am wondering if it is ONLY Windows 7 or is it some partial or complete set of everything on my hard drive? Unrelated, Dell support sent me a flash drive of Windows 7 restore software that is "bootable." I looked at it and it contains only 4GB. That is why I am thinking there may be more content on the 3 DVD's 10.88 GB. I simply want to know what I have as a base in the way of backup BEFORE I migrate everything from my 7 year very old Dell Dimension 3000.

I have a Windows 7 Disc that I've used in the past, but I'm planning on building a new rig in about a month or two and I'm just planning a little bit. So my problem is that my computer doesn't seem to recognize my CD during the boot. It use to ask me press a button to boot from CD but no longer does and but I can run the CD after my computer has booted to my desktop so that means It can't be the CD nor the CD drive correct? I do have the boot order set for the CD-ROM first.

I have an OCZ SSD in my system. It works fine, I have tested on it other systems, and I am able to install Windows XP and Ubuntu on it. When I put in a Windows 7 disk it does not show my SSD. I have 2 different disks and both have the same problem. One is an old disk without SP1, one is a new one with SP1. I have tried different SATA wires and different SATA ports all tested and working on both other systems, and the same system under a different OS. Running in either AHCI or RAID doesn't let my system start from disk. When I click Custom and get the the screen where I partition my drive it does not show anything. It is completely blank. Despite the fact that my drive works under every other circumstance I can create.

Here is what happened:
1. I plugged the wire in my laptop(ASUS K40IJ) for some electricity
2. Without pressing the power button it suddenly turned on! Something was wrong at that time and it asked me to do something about the CMOS or something and I have noticed the time and date were jammed. But I proceeded.
3. I loaded my Windows 7 but there were problems regarding my dropbox(it had problems connecting to the website), on my google chrome( it could not load images). So I have decided to restart and see if it would fix the problem.
4. When I tried to run it again the system crashes(I couldnt even read the error) and restarts whenever I am in the "Starting Windows" screen.
5. I have tried almost all of the repairs offered by the OS except the command prompt part since I do not know how to use it.
6. Now I am stuck using my UBUNTU 11.10. It is working perfectly well until I saw that my chromium here was affected (It is not recording history but other than that it is working perfectly well)
Is it Hardware or Software?

I had my laptop running last night and I woke up this morning and my computer was frozen. It wasn't the "blue screen of death" as many mention as it was simply frozen but when I turned it back on (and continue to turn it back on) it gets stuck on "Starting Windows" without even proceeding to the Windows log-in screen. Next, when I launch a "system repair" it goes through the process but freezes in the blue "system repair" screen without even showing anything..just the blue background sunshine screen and is just stuck there...under "Advanced Boot Options" the "Last Known Good Configuration" gives me no luck either...I then try "Safe Mode" and under "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it freezes while "Loading Windows Files" and the last file/driver it shows is windowssystem32DRIVERSAtiPcie.sys
I don't know what else to do...I have a Windows 7 64-bit boot disc but this is my small laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I can use my USB drive if necessary but I attempted to do that but maybe there is some special way I must install it on my USB drive?

So I recently upgraded my motherboard, RAM, and CPU. After doing some quick adjustments in the BIOS, I attempted to load into Windows to make sure everything was correct. Upon the Windows loading up, the logo freezes for a second, a BSOD appears (which I cannot read as it disappears within a fraction of a second) and the computer restarts.I've already gone through a couple of passes using Memtest without any errors, so I think the RAM can be ruled out. I was hoping I could get advice on how to prevent the computer from restarting so I can see the BSOD and further provide information depending on the error.

I'm having a problem with catalyst drivers. I installed Windows 7 32-bit yesterday and everything was working fine until I installed catalyst control center, which now causes the system to stay stuck on the blue windows wallpaper without explorer or mouse cursor. I can get to safe mode and perform a system recovery, then I can boot normally. I also tried multiple versions of drivers, but it always does the same thing. Im using Radeon HD5770, Gigabyte P43T-ES3G Mobo, Intel Core2Quad 2,5 GHz (not sure about the exact model number) and 4 GB Ram. Everything worked fine before reinstalling windows and my system specs are exactly the same as they were before.

I'm working on a neighbor's computer that had a number of viruses on it. I ran four different virus scanners that I placed on a boot DVD to get rid of them but it appears that the viruses may have roughened up the registry. The computer is an IBM Lenovo model A55 ThinkCentre with Windows 7 Ultimate installed. What is happening is after you click on either the Administrator or User icon to log in, you get a black background for a desktop, a mouse pointer, and a task window but nothing else. I have to close explorer.exe and re-load it in order to get Windows 7 to finish loading. Once I do that, everything appears fine except for the fact that I can't get any windows updates. I installed Comodo security suite offline from my thumb drive but it won't update either. I have already tried downloading and running the Windows 7 update readiness tool which says everything is fine with the registry. I then downloaded and burned a copy of SP1 from my computer to DVD and tried installing it but after the reboot, it says there was an error and couldn't complete and then gives the following code.... 0x800f0826.

I have a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 setup and it's quite frustrating. Before I explain what is happening let me give you my system specifications.
CPU: Intel Core i7 870
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
Ram: Excelram 2x2GB Red Culvert 1600 mhz
Disk: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA II 3Gb/s
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1Gb GDDR5
DVD Drive: NEC Optiarc
Ok so I've put in the Windows 7 DVD, booted from it, deleted the partitions and created them anew and formatted the non-system one where Windows is to be installed. Windows then extracts the files normally and reboots the system. Here's where things get tricky. The system hangs after the screen "Setup is updating registry settings" and doesn't move anywhere. I even left it on during the night and it didn't budge. In some instances (I've tried installing more than 10 times) I actually get pass this screen but then get stuck at "Completing installation". And I even got pass that screen in one attempt when I ejected the CD, but when the system rebooted, it hung at "Starting Windows" screen.
Removing one stick of ram
Removing all external devices, everything not needed and setting the floppy drive to NONE in BIOS
Removing everything from USB slots and disabling them in BIOS
Entering Safemode and opening Device manager through the command prompt and disabling/uninstalling VGA drivers
Switching SATA connectors on the motherboard
Thats about everything I tried with no success.
