View 1 Replies View RelatedNew laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have two business programs that won't run on a 64bit system. Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs. Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

Upon attempting to boot installed windows 7, it spontaneously restarts before loading. It seems that I need to get the Controller Card's drivers installed. i try startup repair mode, and I can load the driver and see the Windows 7 installation after that, but then I don't know how to permanantly add the drivers for this installation.

I want to put my old hard drive that has files and was used with windows vista and put it into a new windows 7 laptop. Is there any overlap or any config problems I can run into doing this? Or do I just put it in and the old files should work and all i have to do is update some drivers from vista to 7?

1. Running from DVD disks AND full download from HP
2. Run in Safemode
3. Reset misiexe and Autoplay functionality
4. Ran windows update
5. Disabled Norton and Ran Malwarytebytes (all fine)
6. The file will extract to the %TEMP% folder. I've tried running the setup.exe from there AND re-saving it elsewhere.
7. HP Customer Support had me create another user admin account- nothing.

View 5 Replies View RelatedGoing through an upgrade to Windows 7 (Ultimate x64 from Vista Home Premium x64) and saved the media center setup for last before I move my files back to the original locations. However, I am having problems with the TV setup. I have made no hardware changed during the upgrade and have been using the Hauppague 2250 WIN TV HVR-2250. I reinstalled the WMC specific drivers for Widows 7 and went through the process, and to summarize, no go. Setup manually and went to a channel to check this and got the message "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart computer." I am just connecting the OTA antenna and pulling the local digital signals (no cable) so it is just limited to that signal. Here is where I think the problem may have originated.During the setup, I relocated all default user profile directories to another partition (away from the standard system drive) through the registry. I am assuming that doing this, I moved the file location where the source file is directed to this partition and WMC is still looking in the "default" location for the video source so I will need to edit the registry to change the default location to the new user profile location.
How I drew this conclusion:I went ahead and installed WinTV v.7 because i wanted to record some old VCR footage through the s-video connection. Was having similar problems where the program was reverting to the default location (the "C" drive), and it was not picking up the TV signal. I changed the default location (to locate the "buffer" and "data" file in the program to the new user location and that straightened everything out for that program. So the assumption is that WMC is experiencing the same problem and i need to modify the default location in the registry to redirect WMC.
1. Are there multiple registry edits that need modified or is there a single location where these edits need to take place.
2. Since you do not have an option to edit directly in WMC, if I make these changes in the registry, reboot & restart the WMC setup process, will the setup process automatically revert to the original ("C" drive) location or will these changes hold through the setup process and I can go through the automatic setup process without problems. (Or do i have to go with the manual process).
I have spent at least 2 wks. trying to fix this. I've built dozens of computers (NewEgg)for my home, business and friends. And in 9 years I've only seen maybe 3 BSOD's. Networks have ALWAYS worked. Even w/ Windows 7 Beta, all was well. I just did a fresh install of Windows 7-7260 on my M1530 then did the same on my own computer.
Specs are in profile. Then I put 7250 on my downstairs friend's M1530. We are all on the same network group named CovellRussin. No variations. We live in the sticks so security is not a problem. DLink 825 router/DLink 1522 AP/DLink Switches.
Wife's Laptop is XP, a WHS, 3-Windows 7's, 1 Vista Premium on a M1330.
Like I said, up until I loaded 7260, the network was fine. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of and MY computer will not see my wifes Xp(which has the QBooks and Tax programs on it). My M1530 sees her XP, My Computer and itself. My computer sees itself and the M1530. Is there a tutorial on setting up a mixed network for Win 7? If I don't fix this fast, I'm going to change my mind about loving 7. I am willing to go step by step with someone. I'll pay if I have to. I need my sanity and my computer back!
As I look around to gather drivers for a new install of Win 7 Pro from XP Pro, I am having a problem, the inf file. Does Win 7 have the inf file for GA-965P/DS3? I am also not sure about the SATA driver for the Gigabyte controller, since this is the one my sys HD is connected to; the ones I have on the disk that came with the mobo...earlier than Windows 7.

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-Extreme
Processor : Intel Quad Q9400 LGA775
Ram : 4gb
Hard Drives : 3 x 1 Tb Seagate
Video Card : Radeon HD 4890
I've enabled the raid 5 in the BIOS. I've downloaded the driver from the Gigabyte Disc onto a flash drive. When I load Windows 7 it says " Windows cannot be installed to this disc. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disc. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu". I've checked and rechecked the BIOS. I also downloaded the MSM64 Driver in the Gigabyte disc and that the one I copied to the flash drive.
Very little, all the parts were shipped here about four days ago and I spent a couple of hours putting them together. I ran into a hiccup when Windows 7 Home Premium would not get past the extracting phase of the installation, kicking up the error in this thread. I began the first install on a 20GB partition, when that failed I tried just installing it on a single partition. When that failed I tried removing all the partitions and just installing on the unformatted drive, in it's entirety (seemed weird but others said they had luck with this).Testing Methodology:
At the end of each attempted solution I tried to install Windows again. My keyboard is a USB keyboard. All of my boot testing is done with a bootable USB that I have running MS-DOS 6.22. What I Have Tried:Solution 1: First I went into the bios and changed the SATA controller from AHCI to Raid SATA Result = FAILEDSolution 2: I tried burning OEM Windows disk from Microsoft to an iso at the lowest speed possible for my DVD burner (4x).Result = FAILEDSolution 3: At this point I had created and deleted so many partitions I was concerned it may be having an effect on the install. So I went to Samsung's website and grabbed their HDD utility tool. I figured let's kill two birds with one stone and test the drive while also restoring it to it's original state. So I did a low level format and then ran the HDD diagnostic. All came back with no errors. Result = FAILED
On to memory...Solution 4: I downloaded Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic Tool and let it run overnight. It returned no errors. So I decided to use MemTest86 4.1 and let it run for 10 passes, I did find errors then. As of now I am running each module of memory one by one to determine if it is a problem with them or the sockets on the motherboard. So far I have been unable to reproduce the errors I got when both modules were running together. As a precaution I double checked the motherboards specifications on the socket order for memory, all is to specs. Result = [PENDING]What's Next:After my current memory test ends, I plan on checking my BIOS to see if the correct memory speeds were detected in the auto detection. If at that point I'm still unable to reproduce the memory errors, I'll put both memory modules back into the system and run the testing again to see if I can reproduce the errors I got the first time.
Yesterday I had a PC technician around to see why my PC was not booting-up properly and also to change my SSD to a larger SSD. As I am visually challenged I cannot do hardware upgrades etc, so I got a Techie guy in. We used Zinstall HDD by-the-way and I would highly recommend this application for such a job plus, it is extremely fast.Anyway, while he was diagnosing my boot-up issue he discovered I had a malfunctioning network card; while removing this, he noticed all the SATA settings were set to SATA 2.When he reset these to SATA 3, the PC would not start-up! When he set them again to SATA 2 there was no problem and it worked fine?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?

I have contacted AsRock about this issue, but I'm wating for an answer and hoped that you guys might has seen this problem before, and will answer quicker than AsRock Support
