Upgrade Install Of W7x86 Fails And W7x64 Fails To Clean Install

Clean installing Windows 7 x86 is no problem. But

1) upgrading Vista x86 to Windows 7 x86 fails and automatically rolls back to Vista, and

2) attempt to clean install Windows 7 x64 results in BSOD when rebooting to finalize the process.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Upgrade Install Fails, Clean Install Is Fine - Same Hardware
When I try to do an upgrade install (from Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit) it always fails toward the end of "migrating files, settings and programs" at about the 57% mark. The program says that it needs to reboot. The screen goes blank and it looks like it is rebooting, however the PC just sits there, the monitor goes to sleep (no video - either analog or DVI) so there is apparently not even a BIOS screen.  There is no drive activity, yet the PC is still powered on.

If I power off and on (or use the reset button), Windows 7 starts to load but eventually blue screens with the STOP error 0x0000007B, followed by (0x80598B68, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).  I know that the first error code usually refers to an inacessible boot disc.

After several tries, it lets me boot, but just tells me that the install failed and is rolling back to Vista, which it does (rather well, I must say). However, if I do a "clean" install (whether or not choose to let Windows 7 wipe out the existing Vista partition), the install completes flawlessly.Apparently, Windows 7 is having problems migrating something (perhaps drivers?) from the existing Vista installation, but I don't know what.

I've tried uninstalling a few various programs and hardware devices and their associated drives to no avail.  Luckily, all of this testing is on a cloned drive, so no permanant damage. The hardware is exactly the same whether I do the upgrade or clean install. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas.

Install Fails On HP A6600f
I successfully installed and ran Build 7000 the Beta. However, I've had a ____ of time installing the RC. I've tried upgrading from Vista 64x Home Premium and preforming a clean install. I even tried a repackaged .iso (Windows Seven RT Edition) and continue to have issues. The install looks to almost be complete and restart to establish credntials and personalize the setup when I get a message saying the install can not complete and that the system is being reverted to old OS (Vista).

Below I've included the logs at  Sources/Panter/setuperr.txt:

2009-07-06 21:01:55, Error [0x064238] IBSLIB Neither <InstallToAvailablePartition> nor <InstallTo> specified for an <OSImage>

I can include the error files from an original Windows 7 x64 RC attempt is needed as well. I'm hoping I'm having the same problem as neither will finish installing and both revert back to Vista.

Win7 Install Fails On Last Reboot
I am attempting to install the Windows 7 beta.  I am currently running 32 bit Vista on a Dell XPS 720 with a GEForce 8800.I had a spare disk which I installed and formatted. I attempted to install Windows 7 to it.  The installation proceeded without incident, but on the last reboot (I think it's the last), the Starting Windows sceen displays, the startup twirling logo displays, and then it displays a 'Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 For testing only' (or some such) message at the bottom right of the screen.

The screen is otherwise black. There is some disk activity through the startup, but it then slows and the disk light seems to blink pretty regularly once a second, with no apparnte change in that pattern.  I've waited for hours but nothing happened.  The mouse can move around the screen, but the install does not proceed.

The dual boot was correctly set up and I can freely boot to either system, but each attempt to start up Windows 7 meets the same end.I tried starting Windows7 in safe mode, but I get a message box saying that the intallation cannot complete in safe mode.  I tried starting in 640x480 mode, but that had no effect - the install still stalls...Any idea what's going on?

Win7 RC (both 32 And 64-bit) Install Fails
system is currently set-up as a multi OS (multi-boot) platform using Terabyte "Boot It NG" (BING) as the boot manager.  After downloading the MS Win7 ISO's I burned (using ImgBurn) to Verbatim DVD's (Taiyo Yuden mfg.) at the slowest burn rate possible.  I then used my BING software to create a primary partiion of about 22GB to prepare for the install.  Of course I went into my BIOS to set the boot order to DVD first, HD second.

By the way, all settings in the BIOS are set to default and there is absolutely NO overclocking involved. What HappensInserting the DVD and rebooting the machine starts the process normally.  I get the "Press any key to start DVD" message, and then the DVD seems to begin the "setup" operation.  I get the "loading files" message at the bottom of the screen, the the "Starting Windows" message with the four converging colored lights that meet to form the MS logo.

A few seconds later the screen goes black, the DVD stops spinning, all activity just stops.  After several reboots and trying the process anew, I finally let it sit there for about an hour to see what it would do....nothing. This failure is exactly the same with both the 32 and 64-bit versions.
Things I tried:I used IsoBuster to extract the MS Iso to a folder.

I then installed a clean copy of WinXp Sp3 to a new primary partition, moved the extracted Win7 folder to that partition, and sucessfully ran the install of Windows 7 32-bit.  The OS runs smooth and fine on my current platform.  I have not tried this technique yet with Win7 64-bit, but will install my version of Windows XP 64-bit Edition when I have a chance and repèat the installation from within that OS as I just described above.ThoughtsThere is clearly a problem with the current Windows 7 RC installer.

After reading the numerous posts both in this forum and others on the Web, I suspect there is an incompatibility with either the NForce 430 chipset or more likely, the ATI graphics card and/or my LCD monitor.  I do not have access to a CRT monitor so I cannot investigate that avenue of troubleshooting.  Other areas that may be problematic are the 4GB memory I have installed and/or the ECC.

I have never, ever, had a boot problem with any software (CD or DVD) in my current optical configuration, so clearly there is an issue with the MS installer.  Pleae take this post not as a critisizim (sp?) of your product, but merely an observation of a significant problem with the current release candidate.  It is after all, a Release Candidate (ie, beta software) and these things are to be expected.

Install On PATA Drive Fails
Windows 7 clean install on a Gigabtye EP43-DS3L based computador stopped since the installer could not find a boot drive. I'm trying to install on a (P)ATA drive, attached to the IDE controller of the mainboard. The installer partitioned & formatted the drive without any problems. However after this, clicking [next] produces a warning "Couldn't find boot disk on this BIOS-based computer" and refused to continue.

The drive is listed in the BIOS as the IDE channel 4 master and is selected as the boot drive -- booting from the drive works. The DVD drive for the install is the IDE channel 4 slave. IDE channels 1-3 are SATA drive slots (none are occupied; I disconnected the SATA drives to test Windows 7).

Using shift-F10, I opened a command box and copied the files from the X:Windowspanther directory.

The setuperr.log file has just one line:2009-01-14 09:58:38, Error [0x06069e] IBS    GetMachineInfo: Couldn't find boot disk on this BIOS-based computer.

Install From USB Flash Drive Fails
(I have searched but not found an answer; apologies if it is there and I did not find it.) I have copied the Windows 7 install DVD to a properly formatted flash drive and am able to boot from it.  I am installing to a Vista SP1 system without any CD/DVD drive. When the Setup program starts, I am only able to complete the very first screen (choose language, etc.)

The Setup program then halts with the following message box: "A required CD/DVD driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk [!] CD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." After clicking OK, another boz appears "No device drivers were found.

Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."  Can then choose Browse or Rescan. Rescan just restarts the loop.  I have tried using Browse to navigate to the location of the USB and flash drive drivers, but they are not accepted.  I have also copied those drivers to the flash drive to no avail.

I have determined that Windows Vista thinks that I have the latest versions of the drivers. Only option left is to abort the setup program. At this point I'm stumped.  Anyone have a solution?

Install On Fujitsu U820 Fails To Start
Tried to install Win 7 on my U820. Install went fine until the end. Now it goes to the last start-up screen (start-up sound is heard, blue with lights shining down, says Windows 7 ultimate at the bottom) cursor moves and spinning wheel spins, screen flashes and goes blank, then same screen returns and this same thing happens again, never boots. I can boot to safe mode with networking no problem and no device manager errors are shown. I want to move to Win 7 on this device but don't know what to do. Is it the GMA 500 video chipset?

Enterprise X64 Install From DVD Fails
I've already successfully installed Windows 7 Enterprise x64 from DVD onto a Dell Precision T5400 with ease and i didn't expect this problem on my other PC.

In that case it was installed onto a single SATA drive.

In this case, it's a little bit more complicated. The motherboard is an Abit IX38 QuadGt with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU with the relevant virtualisation options enabled in the BIOS. I'm using the Intel RAID controller. I've already got XP installed on a striped pair of disks with one drive failing. I've another mirrored pair for data and I've just added a 3rd mirrored pair onto which I was hoping to install Windows 7.

Windows 7 boots from the DVD, I select the language and keyboard, I get the Install Now button after which I get the error "Windows could not display the images available for installation" and can go no further.

What does this message mean?

Can anyone suggest a way forward?

Install Disk Fails To Boot Into Setup
I have downloaded windows 7 home premium upgrade ISO from the microsoft store. The burned the iso to disk using the image burner in windows.

My problem is that the disk will boot, and a "windows is loading" screen appears which only takes a minute. Then a windows background appears on screen with a cursor. That is all. No setup at all. What might be wrong here. I would like to make a bootable disk that works.

I can run setup from an OS, but that is not what I want to be able to do.

RTM Install Fails - Can Not Format New Hard Drive
Windows 7 will not format a new hard drive if there is a second internal hard drive attached. The 2nd drive is a logical drive and both drives are displayed properly during the start of the Windows 7 install. XP has no problem with a new unformatted drive but 7 fails to create the small 100MB system partition.

In my case after some hair pulling I removed the second drive and then 7 could create both the 100MB system partition and the primary partition needed to install the OS. Has anyone else seen this problem?

ATi Driver Fails To Install On Win 7 RC 7100
I had issues like this under the first beta then it went away with the next release but they're back with the RC version.  I've tried installing the drivers for my ATi 3650 various times using the W7 64bit drivers 9.4, 9.5, and now 9.6 as well.

When I run the application InstallManagerApp.exe loads into memory and begins, then I click Next, then choose Install the screen disappears and a couple seconds later InstallManagerApp.exe disappears from memory and nothing else ever loads.  Sometimes the WerFault.exe loads afterwards but not every time.

I've tried all of the following;

binsetup.exe /INSTALL /FORCE_HIDE_FIRST_RUN /AUTOACCEPT_ALL
Decompressing to a folder in my user path instead of the default
Troubleshoot Compatability
Run as Admin
Almost all of the compatability modes
ATi drivers 9.4, 9.5, and 9.6
The ATi driver pack and the CCC and Driver individual packages
Updated the VS2005 and VS2008 32bit and 64bit runtime files

So far none of these items have worked.  The very first time I tried it made it past these stages but caused the computer to BSOD on the enumeration process and has never worked since then.  The native W7 drivers work but I really need the newer drivers and CCC for the ability to change settings.

Windows 7 Installed In VirtualBox But Fails On Partition Install
My iso burn installs on Virtualbox, so I know it is good, but too slow.It is on a Dell Insprion 6000 with a 250g hard drive and three partitions:1. XP2. Data files3. Windows 7 (at least I'm trying to get it there)When I install from within  XP, it reboots at the 27% stage when expanding files, but it seems to keep going after the reboot.

However, it gets to the end and says, "installation was unsucessful" and that is rollng back to previous editionWhen I boot directly from the DVD, it seems to start install but I get the fairly common message of:"Windows did not start correctly.

A recent hardware or software change mightbe the cause.File: windowssystem32winload.exeStatus: 0xc0000001Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application ismissing or corrupt."Any attempt to repair the installation meets with failure as well.Any idea what to try next?

64-bit Install Fails On Latitude E4300 / 8gig RAM
I'm trying to do a network install of Windows 7 RC 64-bit on a new Dell Latitude E4300 with 8 gigs of RAM.  I get through the install itself fine, and then in the final stages of the "setup is preparing your computer for first use", it errors with a message "Windows could not complete the installation.  To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

When it reboots, it just comes back to the same point.  I've tried the full install again (after deleting the partition and starting from scratch again).  It always fails with the same message eventually, although the exact point where it fails varies a little bit - always exactly around that point though.Any suggestions?

Win 7 RC Install Over Vista Ultimate SP1 Fails At First Reboot

Better To Upgrade Install Or Clean Install ?
I'm finding this decision quite hard to decide on and can't decide what to do. I am very picky about wasted space or unnecessary stuff on my hard drive, yet I'd rather not install everything all over again which will take about 20 hours or so.

My question is...if I do an upgrade-install, can I just delete everything in the Windows.old folder and have everything practically the same as a clean install? Or will there be still be some left over things from the hundreds of programs I've installed and uninstalled?

Edit: I've ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and everything seems ok.

Update Critical Security Update Fails To Install. Error Code 8000FFFF

All three have been installed since installing Win7RC without problems. I'm not a tech savvy user, but do know some basics, and disabling the security suite and the Lavasoft software have given no solution.

W7x64 Install, Will Not Boot After Enabling RAID 0
I just bought a refurb Dell XPS 420 w/ Q9300, running Vista Home Premium x64 and downloaded/installed an activated version of Win 7 Ult x64 on an 80GB SSD [Sata1] I bought for it; dual booted w/ Vista x64 on old hard drive [Sata0].

Windows 7 x64 was running stable and instantly fast, I wanted to enable RAID0 on the old hard drive [Sata0] and another new hard drive [Sata2]

I entered Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager (Ctrl-I), creating a RAID0 volume on [Sata0] and [Sata2].

After reboot, it says "No boot device available" after BOIS screen.

My subsequent boot attempts include (roughly in order):

1. disable RAID0 volume, boot to [Sata1]

2. disable [Sata0] and [Sata2], boot to [Sata1]

3. disable [Sata1], boot to CD/DVD-drive (Windows 7 install/boot)

4. disable CD/DVD-drive, boot to USB flash (Windows 7 install/boot)

I have done some digging around and cannot seem to find a solution. I have the use of my notebook (w/ broken DVD burner, still reads) running Windows 7 Ult x86 so apparently I cannot make my USB flash drive x64 bootable from what I've read. I also have 2-USB hard drives (80/250GB) and an eSata 2x docking station available, but no eSata on notebook.

Hope I gave enough info for someone to come up with an easy fix. If I could boot to the Windows 7 x64 install DVD that I made with the non-booting PC, I would have just done a clean install by now, but it refuses to boot to the CD/DVD drive. It actually wouldn't even boot to DVD to install Windows 7 x64 in the first place, I had to install from Vista. Also I do not have a Vista x64 install disk either.

Upgrade Allows Clean Install ?
Can you fresh install with an Upgrade version of Windows 7? I want to save some money by buying the Upgrade. However, if I have to install my old OS first then upgrade, that isn't really a clean install. I'm wondering if you simply have to prove you have an older Windows version so that you can upgrade, or if it literally has to be on the PC for it to work.

Second, does anyone know if the Upgrade trick works with Win 7? As in, you install the Upgrade without entering a key, then "upgrade" your upgrade?
