my son has a toashiba satellite pro L450D-12x it goes past set up screen then to a blank screen (in black ) with a flashing line in the left corner how can i get it to load properley? before it did this it said media cable fail or something like that and i restored bios back to restore settings and it was also turning itsself off now and again.

OK the other night I shut down my system and all seemed fine until next day. I went to reboot and got the normal Dell splash screen with both the Set Up (F2) and Boot (F12) options. After the Dell screen finished it then went to load Windows, but instead I got a Black Screen with Flashing Cursor. Can't move cursor at all.
On the Dell screen I can access the Set Up (F2) bios pages. I can also access the Boot Options (F12) Page. What I can not gain access to is the Restore (F8) menus.
I did not know to make any sort of boot disk or boot repair disk so I do not have either of these and I do not know of anyone who is using windos 7 that could make me one to use. Also Dell puts the rstore on the hard drive so onlyhave a MS Works CD and a Drivers & Utilities CD l ran the diagnostics utility but forgot to plug in my computer so when it was almost done the battery must have died so will redo the test later as tired tonight as been up half the night with this issue. But for memory the first 6 of the 8 memories areas it was scanning tested fine. Will post an update later today when Iget chance to run the whole thing again!!
I know others have had this screen. Is there a solution as have spent the last day or so googling it and seems very mixed results depending on the user and their own case with this black screen w/cursor.Some have said bad hard drive (I HOPE NOT THE CASE FOR ME AT LEAST!!!) Some have said bad mother board. Some have said virus or malware Some have referenced a software update both Microsofts and also specific computer companies. So what can I do to get to my files at least to back them up that is providing the drive is OK! I do know from the boot menu my hard drive is showing in the boot menus. Does this mean that the drives OK but maybe a corrupted boot area or something?
I have an Acer aspire 5733-6607 with Intel Core i3 CPU 2.40GHz.
My mom was on it playing a game on the internet and stepped away to wash dishes when she came back it was on the black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left corner. I tried system repair disc, the recovery disc that it had me make when I first got the laptop and windows defeender offline nothing worked. I tried F8 and it goes to the black screen with acer and where I can press F2 or F12 and then back to screen with blinking cursor. I tried restoring default settings in the F2 menu also.
My computer was working fine a couple days ago and all of a sudden got a terrible Trojan that would spam me with random IE ads. So I ran ad-aware and it got rid of the problem. I went to bed relieved but woke up to my computer in a black screen with just a single cursor "_" flashing. I figured it was a fluke and restarted. same problem.
So I decided to open up the computer and check the SATA drive connections. Everything looked fine but the problem still persisted. I decided that it could just be slot number 1 and moved it to slot 3. The computer would start up and go to desktop but all of my icons disappeared and the computer would just hang if I tried to open any file or go on the internet or any program.
Obviously, it was because the SATA drive was now in a new slot?? I'm not sure. But I put it back into slot 1 and went into the BIOS setup and sure enough, it was a "not detected" for slot 1. The main HDslot.
I tried to reset the BIOS using the jumper method and it still just hangs on black screen with cursor "_" flashing...

Have my Dad's Fujitsu Esprimo laptop to uninstall Searchqu, Bandoo etc for him which were causing problems. That went fine, computer shut down and tried to install Windows updates. Now won't restart.Hangs on Fujitsu screen with options for "<ESC>: Diagnostic Screen, <F2>:BIOS Setup, <F12>: Boot Menu" and Blue progress bar. Progress reaches about 75% complete VERY slowly (hour) but then hangs on black screen with white cursor in top left corner. Been like that for 2 hours now.Have tried solutions from Google - click F2 then re-setting boot order in Bios to "default order", click F12 and choose different options, tried F8 for safe mode, but F8 doesn't do anything.I don't know if it's related to Searchqu, to the updates or if it's just a creepy coincidence and the computer itself is actually broken. He doesn't have a Windows7 installation cd.

Upon reboot the HP screen loaded, afterwards a black screen with a flashing cursor appeared. I had used CTRL+ALT+DEL function in which my computer rebooted.Showed the HP screen and immediately showed the black screen with a flashing cursor. Again no mouse cursor was available. I performed a diagnostics check in which the CPU, HDD, etc. checked out, restored BIOS to factory settings, even placing the HDD as priority 1. I inserted the Windows recovery disk and attempted a start up repair, and a restore point with no favorable results. Through the recovery disks command prompt I accessed all my music and documents, so I assume the hard drive is still functioning. I'm thinking as a last resort of performing a repartitioning of my hard drive and performing a clean install of Windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust today I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This was a problem I had a few months ago with Vista on this same laptop, and I was hoping it would be fixed with Windows 7, but apparently it hasn't.
I just finished the installation and final reboot and everything, and I logged in, only to have the Welcome spinning circle on the screen for about 30-45 seconds, and then a blank screen with a moving cursor, but nothing else. After using Ctrl-Alt-Del to log out, I logged back in, and this time after 25-30 seconds of the Welcome spinning circle it logged me in.
Like I said, this was an occasional problem I had with Vista as well, but if possible, now that I'm using Windows 7 I'd like for it to not be a problem at all.
I'm running a 5 month old HP G60 laptop. During the upgrade process today I had to update my BIOS and everything else, so I think those should be fine. I just thought this would be the best place to ask if others have had the same problems and if so, what they did to fix it.

I can get to the BIOS menu and I have tried restoring to default but that didn't do anything. I was all good working on my computer when I decided to restart my computer because "rocketdock" (a dock program) didn't open a folder and gave me the "open with" dialog instead.
Background:- I've installed a lot of updates recently, including SP1. The windows is customized i.e. some files are edited. I used tune up registry cleaner, which caused a problem in Chrome, so I used a command found on the Internet, it made tons of errors (which was mentioned by the one who suggested the command) and the computer CPU was fully loaded, the command was replacing files, or something like that. When I remember the command I'll post.
PS: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete", "Ctrl+Shift+Esc", and "Ctrl+L" don't do anything. PS2: Safe Mode loads into the same screen.
I thought I would start to describe this issue by telling you what I screwed up on and how I made it happen: I accidentally set my backup drive as my primary (set the partition as active in CMD, it has no installation on it). Then when I went to boot my device, it would tell me that Windows was not installed. I put my C: (main, primary) partition as my default again (with CMD on installation disk) and I was able to get Windows to boot. Then I messed with the MBR to try to fix it and now this happens:
Current problem: When I boot Windows, it give me the old Vista-looking boot scroller (Not "starting windows" with the traditional animation). This animation only lasts for about 3 seconds, then it goes to a black screen with the cursor. That is all. Nothing loads, yet no error message. I tried using a few bootrec commands to fix it using the installation CD's CMD but no luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using my laptop for a while now and had a friend install Windows 7 onto it (because i'm quite rubbish with this sort of thing) and everything has been going great until a few weeks ago.
I loaded it up one day and everything is going fine until it reaches the part where it's supposed to load the log on screen. Instead of a log on screen all i am getting is a black screen with the cursor. Now i can't give you specs to my computer or anything of the like because i simply don't have access to it but i can give as much aid as possible to help find the problem.
One of the things that happens is that when the black screen & cursor appears if i move the mouse or push any buttons the screen goes VERY dim as if i've put it into a lower power mode or i've taken out the power cable. If i push the power button to turn it off even if it's just a tap on the button the screen will go off immediatly even if the laptop is still running.
One of the green lights that i believe is showing if the hard drive is busy or not flashes during the process but after a minute or so of the black screen it'll stop flashing altogether.
I've tried all three safe modes with all the same results, F8 to system repair has given me no love with startup repair finding NOTHING wrong, memory check running through the process only for the same thing to happen and system restore has no restore points to go to.
I've looked for answers in several places and some say i have to use sticky keys to get the screen to come on but the problem is that as of last nights use i turned sticky keys off for a few minutes so i could play a game and forgot to turn them back on afterwards. I've taken a look around the net and can't find a fix to my problem. Reinstall simply is not an option under my current circumstances so i really need a favourable reply.

I have an Acer laptop 4551, got hit by nasty viruses and on top no restore intact.
I formatted the hard drive which gave me an error 83% and stopped. Today I turned on laptop to install fresh genuine Windows 7, I popped in the DVD and done everything in BIOS selected Boot from CD. Everything was Ok I hit enter to Continue then comes the Windows 7 logo and after that a blank black screen with Cursor, that's it! I done that some 5/6 times but no luck.
My old HDD was fried so I decided to use my External HDD to boot off. Afterreformatting the drive I have installed it into my laptop and have attempted to install Windows 7 64bit and its all going great until after the starting windows screen and then it just turns black with the cursor. I have windows firewall on, but haven't really made any other changes.My cursor flashes the busy symbol about once every 4-5 seconds, and it does so whenever the mouse is on the desktop or anywhere it shows the regular icon. The stuff ive found in searching about it has been about computers that dont boot at all when they have this screen, so im worried that will happen to me Ive also found that it might be the MBR being damaged, but in all those cases the people with that problem have more than 1 OS installed, i only have 1 installed
I would just do the steps to repair the MBR but i want to make sure there isnt another/better solution before i do
The computer runs fine other than this problem I've never formatted it (i know i probably should after 5 years but i dont want to) I didnt know where to post this sort of thing, debugging seemed like the best choice
I'm having an issue with my mouse's cursor constantly flashing the loading sign (blue circle) over and over. It only ever stops if I mouse over something that changes the normal cursor picture.
It started happening after my computer just froze randomly while playing Dota 2. I had to manually shut down the computer and when I turned it back on that is when this problem started happening.
Also, I can't do a system restore (as far as I know) because I had savepoints turned off before the issue so there is nothing to restore to.
does anyone know what I can do about this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know too much about computers and I just got a hand-me-down Dell Precision 320 PC from my dad just last weekend and it just crashed. I got a message saying something crashed and if this was the first time I saw it I just needed to reboot my computer. I proceeded to do so and then I got the mysterious black screen with movable cursor hanging scenario. I booted up the advanced boot menu and went to repair computer to "Last Known Good Configuration" and since then it boots up to passed the windows loading screen to a stock windows 7 screen and it flashes about every seven seconds with the cursor blinking to loading something back to idle. It hangs here until I turn it off. I'm currently running a GeForce 7900 GT/GTO card that I've never had problems with. I updated the drivers for Windows 7 from NVIDIA's site.
However, whenever I go to switch display settings, open a video, open a picture, or just about anything else graphically intense (including start-up) my screen freaks out. The screen will go a solid color (of whatever the background is), get lines through it, and then start flashing. Then after 10-20 seconds (or whenever the program I was trying to run is finished) it will revert back to normal.
I can run Aero just fine. I can run normal programs such as the internet browser, control panel, etc. fine as well. It's just whenever I try changing my display settings or running a video, opening a picture, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem? I've run GPU-Z and my card isn't overheating either I don't believe.
