View 1 RepliesBasically, my computer fails so start-up sometimes (My motherboard produces a long beeep sound. GPU not running at all, but the rest of the components seems to be running - eg. USB, Ethernet etc). Also, it will sometimes freeze while running some basic programs which are not really RAM or GPU demanding such as web browsers. Finally, BSOD whenever I'm running some graphically intensive games (which theoretically, my computer should be able to handle.I've ran memtest86 for each of my ram and there were no signs of any ram defunct. Therefore, I'm speculating that the problem is either the GPU, CPU or the Motherboard itself. However, I'm not sure which one should I change. I've attached my 3 dump files, all of which seems to point to different sources of error.[CODE]

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine a couple days ago and all of a sudden got a terrible Trojan that would spam me with random IE ads. So I ran ad-aware and it got rid of the problem. I went to bed relieved but woke up to my computer in a black screen with just a single cursor "_" flashing. I figured it was a fluke and restarted. same problem.
So I decided to open up the computer and check the SATA drive connections. Everything looked fine but the problem still persisted. I decided that it could just be slot number 1 and moved it to slot 3. The computer would start up and go to desktop but all of my icons disappeared and the computer would just hang if I tried to open any file or go on the internet or any program.
Obviously, it was because the SATA drive was now in a new slot?? I'm not sure. But I put it back into slot 1 and went into the BIOS setup and sure enough, it was a "not detected" for slot 1. The main HDslot.
I tried to reset the BIOS using the jumper method and it still just hangs on black screen with cursor "_" flashing...

View 6 Replies View Relatedtwo day ago i turned on my pc as usual. But it did not boot, instead i got a black screen with blinking cursor, so is there any way to make my pc recover from this issue.
I've tried the f8 , it has No effect I even re installed the os but it does not work.. It does all installation work asks for my name and pc name . Then it does the video and perfomance testing . Then it restarts and i again get the blank screen with blinking cursor.
I was all good working on my computer when I decided to restart my computer because "rocketdock" (a dock program) didn't open a folder and gave me the "open with" dialog instead.
Background:- I've installed a lot of updates recently, including SP1. The windows is customized i.e. some files are edited. I used tune up registry cleaner, which caused a problem in Chrome, so I used a command found on the Internet, it made tons of errors (which was mentioned by the one who suggested the command) and the computer CPU was fully loaded, the command was replacing files, or something like that. When I remember the command I'll post.
PS: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete", "Ctrl+Shift+Esc", and "Ctrl+L" don't do anything. PS2: Safe Mode loads into the same screen.
I thought I would start to describe this issue by telling you what I screwed up on and how I made it happen: I accidentally set my backup drive as my primary (set the partition as active in CMD, it has no installation on it). Then when I went to boot my device, it would tell me that Windows was not installed. I put my C: (main, primary) partition as my default again (with CMD on installation disk) and I was able to get Windows to boot. Then I messed with the MBR to try to fix it and now this happens:
Current problem: When I boot Windows, it give me the old Vista-looking boot scroller (Not "starting windows" with the traditional animation). This animation only lasts for about 3 seconds, then it goes to a black screen with the cursor. That is all. Nothing loads, yet no error message. I tried using a few bootrec commands to fix it using the installation CD's CMD but no luck.
have Windows 7 Home edition on a HP dv4 series laptop. Couple of days back I was browsing through a website suddenly the the windows was shutdown. I assumed it was some virus workWhen I try to restart windows it is taking me upto the HP boot options then I get a blank screen with a cursor at the top left corner. The following did not work,1) Booting via the recovery disk2) Booting via recovery hard disk3) I created a USB boot with Ubuntu and even the USB is not getting detected
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt is not, It works fine in Linux. I need to find out why the DVD will not read blank discs. I unistalled Nero 10 and it rand fine then stopped working again. I installed Roxio 2011. I even flashed the BIOS on the drive, but it still will not burn blank discs in windows.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust today I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This was a problem I had a few months ago with Vista on this same laptop, and I was hoping it would be fixed with Windows 7, but apparently it hasn't.
I just finished the installation and final reboot and everything, and I logged in, only to have the Welcome spinning circle on the screen for about 30-45 seconds, and then a blank screen with a moving cursor, but nothing else. After using Ctrl-Alt-Del to log out, I logged back in, and this time after 25-30 seconds of the Welcome spinning circle it logged me in.
Like I said, this was an occasional problem I had with Vista as well, but if possible, now that I'm using Windows 7 I'd like for it to not be a problem at all.
I'm running a 5 month old HP G60 laptop. During the upgrade process today I had to update my BIOS and everything else, so I think those should be fine. I just thought this would be the best place to ask if others have had the same problems and if so, what they did to fix it.
my son has a toashiba satellite pro L450D-12x it goes past set up screen then to a blank screen (in black ) with a flashing line in the left corner how can i get it to load properley? before it did this it said media cable fail or something like that and i restored bios back to restore settings and it was also turning itsself off now and again.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently dualbooted Linux Mint and Windows 7 on my laptop. Yesterday I removed the Linux partition without thinking, and forgetting about the GRUB bootloader. I'm at a stump now. When I try and turn on my computer, the Toshiba logo appears, then the screen goes blank with a blinking cursor. I searched the internet all of today and most of yesterday, all that did was tell me to do the bootsect /nt670 /fixmbr and all it's variations[CODE]
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to do a clean install of Windows 7 I get the loading files white progress bar you normally get during an installation, it then goes directly to the scrolling progress bar that would normally appear before a Windows startup, and then goes to a blank Windows 7 desktop with only a cursor (that I can move).I have a computer with the following specs:[CODE]I have tried to install with every version I can get my hands on, both 32 and 64 bit. None of them are upgrade versions. I've tried installing on a fresh WD Raptor and an Intel G25 SSD. All other drives have been disconnected. I've moved my memory around and tried with one stick. My mainboard has the latest official BIOS, although there is a new beta.
I ran the Windows 7 compatibility test and didn't see anything that would cause this problem.I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a solution sonstalling Windows XP has never been a problem, just Windows 7, always with the same problem. This is one of the few times when I have not been able to look around a find an existing answer to a problem and I am stumped.
I have a HP netbook running Windows 7 Starter edition that I only had for about 2 months anyways this morning I started it up and got the HP logo screen briefly and then a black screen with a white cursor in the top left hand corner. I can get to the BIOS menu and I have tried restoring to default but that didn't do anything. I then unplugged ac adapter and battery and help power button down for a min. and then put battery and ac adapter back in and started it.

I have an Acer laptop 4551, got hit by nasty viruses and on top no restore intact.
I formatted the hard drive which gave me an error 83% and stopped. Today I turned on laptop to install fresh genuine Windows 7, I popped in the DVD and done everything in BIOS selected Boot from CD. Everything was Ok I hit enter to Continue then comes the Windows 7 logo and after that a blank black screen with Cursor, that's it! I done that some 5/6 times but no luck.
My old HDD was fried so I decided to use my External HDD to boot off. Afterreformatting the drive I have installed it into my laptop and have attempted to install Windows 7 64bit and its all going great until after the starting windows screen and then it just turns black with the cursor. What I have tried so far....- I have reset the BIOS to defalt-Cleared the CMOS- Checked the RAM (even left 1 2gig stick in and tried that?)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was attemping to restore my computer back to previous days and as it was retrieving the data and processing, I got anxious and turned it off during the restoring before it finished and when I attemped to turn the power back on, only the "starting windows" and "gateway" logos flash on and off but no start up process. Please help, I know I screwed up, but I've already tried the SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE in networking, and the "last configuration" attemps and none of them rectify the problem.

My Dell Studio 17 shut down yesterday after sitting idle. Now i cannot boot windows. I get this endless loop that ultimately leads me to startup repair which either hangs or errors out. Attempting to start in safe mode takes me to same place.I know the root of the problem is bsod as I see it flash when attempting to load windows.I was able to launch system restore tool from advanced options (f8) but after selecting restore point the cpu seems to hang after over an hour of Initalizing.I can bring up command prompt by the way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis happened to me a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to resolve it since, so I'm turning here for assistance. One fine evening, I come home and notice that my computer is giving me an error message:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the problem.
I am then told to insert my installation CD, reboot, and follow some steps. There is one problem: I do not have an installation CD. I upgraded my erratic copy of Windows Vista to 7 (Premium 32bit I believe) last year as part of the $30 upgrade for students program, and did so online. I tried using friends' installation disks of various editions to no avail, and when I boot directly from the disks it either gives me the option to reinstall or gives me the same error message (0xc0000001, BootBCD). I tried to track down my purchase information, but the email address I used to make the purchase no longer exists and my online banking service doesn't keep records past 6 months (I made the upgrade roughly a year ago). My question is, what can I do to fix this? Do I have to reinstall and lose all my data, is there a problem with the computer itself (this is not the first OS to be bucked off, it rejected Vista last May), or can I get what I need to run a system repair somehow?
Edit: Forgot to mention, the only software change I have made in the last few weeks is uninstalling Firefox and installing Chrome, and I don't think that would be the issue.
Lately my welcome screen became very slow, it takes 3-4 minutes to load and then a black screen with a mouse cursor comes up for 30 seconds then the actual windows come, when windows start the network icon has a red cross on it and says not connected - no connections available but the internet is just fine, and it says failed to load windows service. Is that a virus? i scanned with AVG 2012 and Malware bytes and problem is still there .

After rebooting my system, it recommended that i do a start up repair. After the repair completed i recieved the black screen right before choosing USER , so i tried 3x more to repair which each completed but same outcome till the point it just says cant repair automatically . Then i tried to system restore which failed also , but the catch is my system boots fine from Safe Mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r
A few weeks ago, I shut down my PC completely for a regular cleaning. I do a regular cleaning once a month, this was the first time I had an issue.
After I finished, I powered up the machine, and Windows would continually fail to start - rebooting at some point while the Logo load screen was up.
After several Google searches, I tried pretty much everything I could think of or advice i came across - Nothing worked. I could not boot from the Win7 Disk, System Repair did not work, advanced boot options did not work, etc. At this point I thought the HDD might be bad (WD Caviar Black 1 TB).
So I went and purchased a new HDD, the same model actually as it was on sale. Windows installed fine, everything got up and running with no issue.
I then took my HDD which I had believed had failed and plugged it into a Thermaltake BlacX Docking station and I was able to locate the drive in the device manager after scanning for new hardware.
I actually was able to go into the hard drive and recover the few bits of data I hadn't backed up (mostly gaming files). The HDD was completely fine. Fast forward a few weeks, and feel free to laugh at me here - I'm in the exact same situation with the new HDD once again after cleaning my PC case.
So, I'm not sure what is happening. I've rebooted the PC many times without issue but today was the first time that I fully powered down the PC to do a cleaning.
I suspect something is causing Windows to fail to recognize the HDD itself, but honestly this is way beyond my knowledge how to fix. I took a risk and I removed the sata cable from the "GSata" slot on the motherboard and put it into one of the standard ICHR10 - to no effect.
I've once again exhausted every option I actually know how to safely do, advanced boot options, repair attempt from Win7 Disk, etc. Nothing is working. I'm debating running out yet again and grabbing a cheap HDD just to get myself up and running again, but I thought I'd turn to Tom's Hardware first for some ideas - and because I don't want to be going through this issue everytime I want to give the PC case a good cleaning.
my system crashed yesterday due to gpu overheating. now it boots till windows animated logo but at the point right when welcome screen usually comes there is nothing now but a moveable mouse cursor on a completelly black background.now i have following stuff to get back to normal: two very old restore points and a recently created macrium reflect system image but no repair disc. i will be very happy, if there is a way to use the image since i know that some of you prefer macrium reflect insted of microsofts system image solution. unfurtuntelly my restauration points are way to old (april 2011).
