View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using some Lenovo Q180's as media players for digital signage. For the most part they have all been working fine except for 2. Randomly, the signage presentation will re-size itself and move into the upper left corner. This happens randomly and not at the same times each day. They are hooked up to a LED tv via HDMI. I have tried switching the HDMI cables, ensuring all drivers are current and tried most all the basic troubleshooting. A simple re-start will get everything back looking and running fine. Again, this is a digital signage application so we cannot tell if this has occurred until the client calls to let us know which is not good for us.

My daughter was using my MSI laptop and when she tried to start the computer all that came up was a black screen with the cursor in the upper left corner. She selected the restore option which came up because the other options would not do anything. Is there any possible way to recover my files, pics, etc. or is it just gone now?

After the fresh install of windows, it worked for a few days and now it is doing it again. What is my next option?
View 9 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron laptop, working fine, shut itself down last night mid work and now will kind of start up but only go so far. am left with Black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. Managed to get f8 to work after a while. It runs the pre-boot system assessment build 4116 - everything gets a "pass" except The hard drive which gets a "running". All memory tests "pass" also. After this it will go no further, no more screens. Running windows 7....F2 and F12 will not work either so cannot start in safe!
View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I turn on my computer, the screen will turn on as usual, and there is like a cursor that blinks in the top left corner of the screen, again, as usual. However, it will sometimes stop, and stay on this screen for upwards of a minute or more. The laptop sounds like it's still working, as the fan is going pretty fast and everything sounds like it's spinning, however it doesn't show anything on the screen. After around the minute duration, the screen will go black and the normal boot up process is proceeded with. From what I've read of other people, they can't even get past this screen, which is why I think my problem is slightly different, or the same, just not as severe. Does my problem also sound like it's the MBR, as indicated by other people's questions on the Internet?
If so, is there any easy way to repair it without having to use a windows 7 disc, as I have a laptop and didn't get a disc with it...
Today I tried to boot up my laptop but I am stuck at a blinking cursor on a black screen. To make matters work my keyboard doesn't work either so I can't use F2 or F12 before it boots to the black screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a gateway computer that is infected with a virus. I was able to load the computer in safe mode a couple of times before it no longer loaded login screen for my computer. Now when I cut the computer on there is only a black screen with a white blinking cursor. I have the avira rescue cd and have changed the seetings to boot straight from the cd rom but even after running the rescue disc the computer will not allow me to use the (f) function keys. When I press down on any of the (f) function keys there is a beeping sound but no action. I tried to use a windows reboot cd made from another computer but it does not load on the start up like the avira resue disk does.

My remote does not work in WinTV-7 since I activated live TV in Media Centre.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've searched around for several weeks for a solution to this problem and have not yet found a solution that works for me...
I am running Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) on an extremely capable PC, but now, every time I start the machine up I get a completely black screen with cursor, and in the bottom right hand corner is the watermark,
"Windows 7100
This copy of Windows is not genuine."
I believe I know what caused this. When I first got the RC, I downloaded one of those patches that removes the watermark (Yes, I know I was stupid and shouldn't have ) and for awhile, everything worked fine. Then I found the above watermark sitting regularly on my desktop, as well as some "This copy of windows not genuine" Pop-ups from MS, so I clicked on resolve, and the MS website just said something to the tune of "This Windows OS is not yet supported" or something like that.
So I didn't pursue the problem any further. Now, every once in a blue moon it will let me access the desktop. When it does, everything is extremely slow, I can't use command prompt, and when I open control panel to look at my CD Key or to check that it is activated, in the spot where my CD Key should be, instead there is just this: ---
Sooo, I need to know how to re-activate Windows so I can actually use the computer again. Also, I can give any information you guys need. I really hope I can get this resolved soon, it has just been such a hassle.
I have had a very odd problem. I have searched all over these boards and used all the repair utilities, but nothing has worked.I will post all my computer specs at the bottom of the message. My Windows 7 64 bit computer will run great all day long, but if I leave it on over night, none of my programs will start. If I double click on them the little circle will start up for a second, then just quit. I still have full use of the mouse and can click on the task bar to shut down or restart the computer, but no programs will work.

PC name, network etc) but after it said it was preparing for first startup, nothing boots. After restarting.. besides the startup Acer screen, there is only a black screen with a blinking underscore at the top left. Whats happening :S?
I've tried F2 and running a setup but it just shows me some specs and such

About a month and a half a go my laptop was infected with 2 trojan viruses and ever since I haven't been able to start it up as it stays on a black screen with a blinking cursor after the toshiba splash screen. I am able to use my computer by booting with Hiren's boot cd and have since cleaned up my computer and gotten rid of any viruses..but have to continue booting via disc and it is getting sickening to do so.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just rebuilt my computer, but reused my old WD HDD, OS and all. It used to be hooked up to an AMD rig, but my new CPU is an i5-2500k and mobo is an MSI P67A-GD53 (B3). So when I hooked everything up and booted for the first time, the computer showed an error saying that the memory or cpu had been changed and that I needed to run the setup, which I did. That led me to the blinking cursor on a blank screen. It stayed that way for several hours before I decided to reboot. That time "A3" "99" "B4" flash on the screen, then it goes straight to the cursor. So I decided to give a new hard drive a try. I went out and got an SSD, hooked it up, same problemMy best guess right now is that the mobo was DOA. I'm still kinda new at this PC building thing

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I installed Windows 7 on my HD. The installation process went well. I chose my Username, password, etc, and then Windows prepares the Desktop for the first use, and then the PC automatically reboots.
The problem is that when the pc reboots after the final stage of the installation, Windows won't boot up and I get stuck with a blinking cursor. The only way I can boot up is when I turn on the PC and keep pressing F5 and then it takes me to a GRUB 0.4.4 Red Window like this one
When I chose the "alternative method", Windows boots with no problem. Is there a way to choose the alterative method as the default?
I upgraded to Win-7 64 bit and now my mouse cursor blinks with the busy icon about every 6 seconds. I also see the processor is running at a constant 4% to 6%.
When I had Vista the solution was to disable the HD Audio device and it solved the problem. Now this isn't working at all.
I also installed a new video card: ATI Radeon HD 5770.
i have a lenovo thinkpad edge 14" running 64-bit windows 7 home premium. the laptop didn't come with any CD's, everything was pre-loaded on. all i get when i boot it is a black screen with a blinking cursor , when it boots all it shows is the thinkpad splash screen then straight to the blinking cursor. i have access to a lenovo x220 running the same (i.e. 64-bit Windows 7 home premium) however no CD drive, the edge 14" does have a cd drive. looked at multiple articles on seven forums but none of them help because i dont have a cd burner
