Recently my DVD burner does not see any DVDs on my computer that I built a couple of months ago. It does not see Movies, Games(that are DVD), Blank DVD-R or DVD-R that I have written information to. I have put in a few different CDs(Game, Audio and Data) and they do get recognized by the drive. My problems all started when I was writing to a Blank DVD. While it was burning, the burn process failed about midway through. After that happened, my problems with the drive not recognizing the DVDs started.
I had done a system restore to an earlier restore point before I had the problems with the drive, but that did not help. So, I undid the system restore. I have also tried uninstalling the drive from the Device Manager and restarted, but that also did not work.
The computer is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The model of the DVD burner is a LiteOn iHAS524-T98 B. The Manufacture Date of the drive is April 2011, so it's not that old of a drive.

I don't know whether the Windows 7 forums are the right place for this question, but I hope someone can redirect me.
I have about 150 DVDs which back up my photographs. They were burned between 2003 and early 2009 in Win XP Pro x86, using Nero v.5. They were burned as data discs, not photo discs. The files are almost all in TIF, PSD or Camera Raw format.
I can read them (i.e. open them in Photoshop) in my XP computer. I can read them in Windows 7 x86 in a VMWare virtual machine. But I can't read them in Windows 7 x64.
The drive is a Pioneer DVR-216DBK, and I've installed the latest firmware. It isn't malfunctioning: I can install programs from DVDs/CDs, and I can write DVDs/CDs.
Searching on-line I found a program named Iso Burner, from which I can slowly and laboriously 'run' individual files (i.e. open them in PS), but I need to be able to see the contents in Bridge.
Can I do this if I:
a) buy a DVD drive that supports older formats, or
b) move the DVD drive that wrote the discs to my Windows 7 machine, or
c) download drivers from....?, or
d) buy the latest version of Nero (which I hoped to avoid; I hardly use DVDs for backup any more)

My DVD rom drive will not read dvds or dvd software but it will play cds, This has happened before to me but I was able to call someone, It happened after I Uninstalled Norton and I had to remove a key and restart the laptop up and it worked, But I cannot remember for the life of me on how to do it again, I Uninstalled Avg then reinstalled it since then my drive hasn't been playing dvds just cds. I know This is probably the same as what has happened before, I know I have to go into regedit but not sure where to go after that

I found one thread on here where someone had the same issue, and there were links to two "Fixes" ...one of them worked for the CD I inserted during the process..it showed up in iTunes in everything. When I took the CD out and tried to put it in a new one, it went back to the same thing - saying there is no disc in the drive. I tried running the fix again and this time it keeps saying not fixed. I was so excited because it looked like it worked, but no. The computer says that the drive is working properly, but obviously it isn't. HP wants to charge $60+ to fix it because it's a few months out of warranty.

Just built my new computer but realized that I can't use the same Windows 7 disc/cd-key that's on my old computer because it's only one per computer when I thought it was 3.Looking at the prices on the Windows 7, it costs $119 for upgrade and $200 for full retail. From what I have read, when installing using the upgrade disc, it would detect my previous Windows version and if it's older than XP, or if there's no Windows installed, it would not activate Windows as it isn't a proper license and I would need the full retail one.

My laptop have DVDRamGT30L HP My computer runs on Window 7 home premium and I use Cyberlink power 2 go for image and burning. I'm from India and recently we has religious function at home. As this was a personal religious event we took service of professional photographer who shoot the event using his digital camera and converted it to image on his computer. he burned image on DVD . I can play DVD on traditional DVD player Though the disk is full my computer drive recognize it as blank DVD. There are total 41 DVDs and some of the DVDs are recognized and can be played on computer. My DVD writer (on PC)is in good condition. The DVD which shows blank on my computer is shown full on photographe's computer.Unfortunately he could only told me that he has transfered this event from his camera disk to computer using some new HD technology. According to him some configuration changes required on my computer. His computer also run on window 7. Also same photographer did this same event recording for me three years ago and all these DVDs play well on my computer?

From what I can see, this seems to be a fairly common problem across computers...My Dell Inspiron n5010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) sporadically won't read DVDs. A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? I only had the "high" option, which apparently means that fix isn't for me...)-Uninstalling any DVD-burning software that may be interfering with my laptop's own DVD player/software.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop new in Italy in December 2009 from a major computer store. The computer came installed with Windows 7 Home Premium (Italian), and I have installed on it an original version of Microsoft Office XP 2003 Professional Edition (English). The CD-ROM unit is a Matsushita DVD+-RW UJ890.Since I bought the computer I have sometimes had difficulty burning DVDs with the built-in Windows 7 burner function that I access from Explorer. Often in the past I have ended up with partially written DVDs. Nevertheless by using high-quality DVDs I have been able to burn DVDs successfully most of the time using the Windows 7 utility. I last used the utility successfully a couple of months ago when I burned a couple of DVDs to backup some photos.
Since yesterday I have been trying to backup my most important files onto DVDs. The attempt has failed in every case. First I copy about 3 GB of files from drive C: onto drive D: in Explorer. These are several hundred files divided into three different directories, consisting mostly of PDF, Word, Excel, and JPG files, some of them with names in foreign scripts like Cyrillic, Japanese, or Chinese. Then I insert a new DVD (either Verbatim or TDK) and attempt to master the DVD by selecting the option write to disk from the Explorer menu (whether from the menus at the top of the screen or by right-clicking on drive D: in the lefthand pane of the screen). A window pops up asking me for the name of the disk, whether I want it to be flash or one-time only, and the recording speed (8x, 4x, 2x, etc.).
Once I click continue to start burning the DVD, a window pops up to tell me that Windows is making an image of the disk, and then the window tells me that it has begun mastering the disk, giving me a countdown of how many minutes are left (6 minutes to 11 minutes, depending on the speed I choose). But no matter what name I give to the disk and what recording speed I pick, after 30-60 seconds the popup window and the Explorer window both suddenly close and the DVD units writing light goes out, but the DVD unit continues to whir at high speed forever.
Here are the results I got yesterday with 3 separate DVDs:
1. On the first DVD I used Windows 7s burn utility on a Verbatim DVD, and I ended up with 28 files burned onto the DVD (making it unusable).
2. On the second try I used some simple burn software that I had used before Roxio Burn on a TDK DVD, and ended up with 4 files burned onto the disk (but from different folders than the 28 files burned by Windows 7).
3. On my third attempt, after going offline, shutting down my antivirus software (AVG), and using Task Manager to shut down processes from that other burn software, Roxio Burn, I used Windows 7s burn utility again on a TDK DVD and ended up with the identical 28 files that had I ended up with the first time, though this time I had chosen a lower writing speed.
In all three of these attempts the DVD unit continued to whir after the windows had closed, until such time as I ejected the disk manually. When I first encountered this problem yesterday I thought the problem might be caused by my antivirus software AVG Free Edition interfering with the writing process, because after one particular automatic update by AVG about two months ago I began having problems with AVG blocking Skype and placing some of my Nokia cell phone software in quarantine. But by disabling the HIPS element of AVG I was able to resolve those problems several weeks ago and begin using Skype successfully again. But just to be sure, today I disinstalled AVG completely and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Because I had read in a forum online that Windows 7 might have conflicts with other burning software that was also installed, today I also disinstalled the only burning software that I had installed Roxio Burn and did a cold reboot. Before attempting to burn a DVD again today, I also used Task Manager to shut down some other processes that didnt seem necessary, such as a Nokia autolauncher and a Java autoupdate process. I also changed the time delay for Windows sleep or power-save function to one hour.
I inserted a new TDK DVD, accepted the disk name proposed by Windows, chose for the disk to be permanent rather than flash, and chose a burning speed of 4x. After 30 seconds I received a popup window with the following message:
ST Service Scheduling has stopped working.I ignored this message and did nothing, because often in the past when I have succeeded in burning DVDs with Windows 7's utility I have had this message appear, but if I do nothing I almost always have the burn proceed successfully. In this case, though, after another 10-20 seconds the Explorer window and burning-countdown window both closed, the DVD light went out, but the DVD continued whirring at high velocity. The DVD unit did not respond to my pushing the expel button by hand, and when I tried to expel the DVD using Explorer I only got an error message, so the DVD could be expelled only by shutting down the computer. When I turned the computer back on, I discovered that no files at all had been written to this DVD.below are the details from the ST Service Scheduling error message (in Italian, sorry). Whenever I get these ST Service Scheduling error messages I get them twice, i.e., after choosing Close one time the same message immediately appears again and I have to choose Close a second time.

I have 2 drives (connected one at a time to try and sort this issue) SONY AD-7260S and a LITE-ON
Now from upgarding to XP to 7 I had no issues until now... When inserting Disc (Blank or Data Files) the DVD Drive will hang and not ask what to do with the Disk and when I try to Burn the disc it will say cannot write to drive or just sit there doing nothing
Both these drives worked flawlessly with XP and only way to get the drive to recognise half the time with Windows 7 is to restart PC to either get it to show in Device Manager or press eject when booting to get the disk inside out.
Both drives are Sata and are only a few months old (not burned much and work exceeelnet on another xp machine)

After the latest Win 7 updates on three of my computers, the CD drive does not read blank CDs. It gives an error message "Windows cannot read the disk in drive E:"etc, format the disk etc.I was always able to put a blank CD in the drive and see that it was blank or could copy files to drive. Now, it only gives me this message. I tried several different blank CDs. They work fine in my older XP computer.

Clean installing Windows 7 x86 is no problem. But
1) upgrading Vista x86 to Windows 7 x86 fails and automatically rolls back to Vista, and
2) attempt to clean install Windows 7 x64 results in BSOD when rebooting to finalize the process.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

What's the best type of DVD to use for read-only and read/write applications? I'm a little out-of-date on this, haven't bought any in awhile. I remember things like DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW and such. I have a new machine running Win7, and an older laptop running XP.

it doesn't matter if I use a third party program or the W/7 burn image feature to burn an iso, I end up with a dvd that has written data that can't be seen in explorer. All I can see in explorer is "files ready to be written to the disc > desktop."
The desktop file is [.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%system32shell32.dll,-21815
If I try to burn that file it says "no files [staged] to burn"
I've tried different dvd's including Vertbatim, but all have been +RW.
Verify disk confirms the data is burnt and closing the disk does not make any difference....the files can't been seen.
Optical drive = LG H20L (with latest firmware)
Edit....the files I'm burning should be visible, but in any case I've got "shown hidden files, folder & drives" selected in folder options.

My problem is, I have recently installed Windows 7 X64. I had already backed up my files up about a month earlier using nero 7. Nero 7 installed but not properly and would not restore my files. I uninstalled Nero 7 and loaded trial version of Nero 12. It also would not restore my files. I would love to have all my files back but my main concern is my picture files.

I have downloaded the Windows 8 ISO and its size is 2.52 GB But all the DVDs here in Egypt at the area where I live is crap, they sell PRINCO DVDs and it has 4.7 GB / 120 Min on it but when I insert it into the drive, it reads 1.31 GB. Very strange!!
In this case, can I split the ISO Image and make the Windows 8 into two 2 separate DVDs? If so, how will the installation look like when I install the Windows using 2 DVDs?

I have been running W7 on this box since W7 came out. I use the TV tuner, Dvdfab, play movies, rip cd's and to this point haven't really had any problems. About 2 weeks ago I was unable to open a movie to use DVDFab to copy it. DVDFab had expried. I did upgrade to the latest version, but that didnt help. Then I tried playing a CD. CD will not play. WMP just sits at the blue circle. Sometimes it will recognize the cd and songs, but no music.Only physical cds and dvds. Same problem if you try and play them from WMC.
