Sp2 My Computer Doesnt Show Flash Drive Drive
Apr 20, 2006I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

only way I can change wallpaper is by right clicking on an image and selecting set as wallpaper, but I cant do anything else without properties.

Feb 2, 2008I am trying to fix a PC for someone. It is an older HP running xp home. When i boot the pc it goes to the home screen with the wallpaper but it does not show the start menu or any icons. i also tried booting into safe mode and i see the same thing. no icons nor task bar. what can i do? i want to install some anti virus software but i cant do anything since there is no task bar or anything. what are my options other than formating?

Aug 23, 2007My PC is running absolutely stable (7 hours of orthos). Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable.Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.

Dec 15, 2006I tried to run a knoppix (live linux distro) cd and changed the boot order (F2 setup) to boot from cd. Ok... the cd still wouldnt boot, so I went into F2 again and made all devices non-bootable except the cd player. When I tried this method... I was informed that my cd drive isnt a bootable device. I checked a few settings but couldnt find anything in regards to this. Im just trying to boot from my cd player.

Apr 16, 2005whenever I try to play music it doesnt play, it says low on memory, whenever I open any Microsoft Word program it gives me some error about a license, and whever I try to copy and paste anything, it doesnt let me. I have a few partitions on my hard drive and whenever I copy one file or a folder or anything, I cannot paste it anywhere. If I open Control Panel, the screen doesnt appear as usual, all the icons are on two columns on the lft side with a scroll bar next to them. If I try to open Add/Remove programs, it comes up all garbled. I was going to just reformat the whole computer but it will not boot from the cd rom drive now. And whenever the computer is booted in W2K and I try to browse the CD in My Computer, it just says "Please insert disk in drive...." Also, whenevr I restart, it sits on my desktop for about 5 minutes before it finally brings up the icons and everything. It has never done any of this, it just started this morning.

Okay, so, I just got a new cd-rom and i installed it into my computer and hooked everything up one as a primary master and the other as a primary slave.those two cd-roms show up in BIOS and they show up in Device Manager.I need help. Nov 13, 2005I have a problem. Suddenly and for no apparent reason, my DVD burner (D drive) and CD burner (E drive) do not show up in my computer any more. I looked in device manager and they both show up but have yellow triangles with black exclamation points next to them. The message for them is something to the effect of the drivers are installed but it cannot locate the hardware. I have not tampered with them. The only thing I did was attempt to install Simple Backup and there was an error so it rolled back and uninstalled itself. After that was when I noticed the drives don't show up anymore. I have XP home on a compaq presario computer. DVD burner is HP dvd writer 300i and CD burner is a LiteOn something or other.

In MY COMPUTER, the icons used to be organized under certain subheadings like "Files Stored on this Computer," "Hard Disk Drives," and "Devices with Removeable Storage" etc.These headings are gone. When I go to Arrange Icons and click the Show Groups option, I do not see a return of my lost headings. Apr 2, 2005My problem is that in my computer with windows xp I used to always use the thumbnail view in the windows explorer to know which videos where which and also for images. But then my computer got all screwed up and I had to reformat it and install the windows xp again and downloaded all the new service packs and stuff.But now, I go to either the windows explorer or my computer and for images I can see the thumbnails but for videos it only shows either the windows media or realplayer logo but no thumbnail image of the video. It is driving me crazy because I really need to be able to see the thumbnails in order to identity them fast instead of having to open all of them!
