I've been trying to fix this problem for 2+ days. Okay, so, I just got a new cd-rom and i installed it into my computer and hooked everything up one as a primary master and the other as a primary slave.those two cd-roms show up in BIOS and they show up in Device Manager.I need help. I've tried switing them to secondary, switching them back and forth with master/slave.I tried switching out my cables.I do have everything connect cause they open and close and show up like i said before in BIOS and Device Manage.I really need some help cause i'm really lost with ideas.
I had to replace my motherboard due to a failure. Getting Win XP Pro back to install has been a real pain. I have it now where I can boot into windows. The 2 things that are not being recognized are my CD Rom and DVD Rom. They have a yellow ? next to them in device manager. I've deleted them several times and still they won't be recogonized. One is a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-636 the other just says DVDRW IDE1108. Anyone have any Ideas how I can get them recognized? I can't get SP2 on there until I can get these drives working.
Restoring Access to CD ROMs..If you removed CD Burning software, or for some other mystical reason, can not longer access your CD ROM's,in most cases following registry keys needs to be deleted:Locate and delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values.
well i'd hate to say this, but, i just un-installed my CD-drivers, and i don't remember what the driver was, what can i do to re-install it, also where can i go
I have a problem. Suddenly and for no apparent reason, my DVD burner (D drive) and CD burner (E drive) do not show up in my computer any more. I looked in device manager and they both show up but have yellow triangles with black exclamation points next to them. The message for them is something to the effect of the drivers are installed but it cannot locate the hardware. I have not tampered with them. The only thing I did was attempt to install Simple Backup and there was an error so it rolled back and uninstalled itself. After that was when I noticed the drives don't show up anymore. I have XP home on a compaq presario computer. DVD burner is HP dvd writer 300i and CD burner is a LiteOn something or other.

My Computer just shows flashlight. I have made it worse by trying to fix it. Control panel has stopped working also. I had added MSN Toolbar and may have crashed it. I need to find a way to fix this without losing data. Can not backup because it won't find other drives. Computer is working.
I have two hard drives each divided into two partitions.I performed a clean install and repartitioned the C drive into C: and D:"My Computer" shows the C & D partitions correctly but does not show the second drive with it's partitions D: and E:In "Disk Management" of "Computer Management", my secondary drive is shown as Disk 0 and not being partitioned with all the GB combined.
I just installed a brand new cd-rw & dvd-rw into my computer. and windows did not see that there was new hardware installed, and it did not assign a letter to the drive, in fact it does not show up in my computer. It also does not show up in device manager. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM HERE!!!!! I have triple checked the cables connecting them to the motherboard, and all is well, there are definately connected. the power cable is also connected, the links on the front of them blink when i restarted the computer
I have Dell 8200, Windows XP Pro, I used computer however, it's starting to show a blue screen which says:A problem was detected windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any Bios updates. disable bios memory option such as caching or shadowing. If you need Safe Mode to restart your computer, press F* to select advance start up options, then select safe mode.
I had a trojan downloader I appear to be all clean now, but I've noticed a weird change that might be from the clean up, not sure. In MY COMPUTER, the icons used to be organized under certain subheadings like "Files Stored on this Computer," "Hard Disk Drives," and "Devices with Removeable Storage" etc. These headings are gone. When I go to Arrange Icons and click the Show Groups option, I do not see a return of my lost headings. Instead, my control panel, and each of my drives is shown in a separate category that has a random letter assigned as its topic heading. How do I change this? How do I restore the original headings, and what could possibly have happened to remove them in the first place
last night i ran a system restore (to two day prior), i had left the computer, awhile later came back, logged in and waited for windows to start up, the wallpaper of my desktop came up but nothing else, i waited about 20 minutes before leaving again for awhile, returning to the computer in about a half hour. after waiting an hour+ with the computer doing nothing
When I booted up my computer this morning, Windows loaded, I signed in, and then it took nearly an hour and a half to get the program icons to come up on the desktop. When I try to open one, it can take upwards of 20 minutes to do so, then response within the program is no better. It seems like all the resources are under use, but no one can see what's bogging it down.
For some reason my computer will not show new programs installed when you go to, Start, All Programs, tabs, however, the programs are installed and you can see them when you use explore and follow the path to the program. Can the page be to full to show all the programs or what?
My computer is loading EVERYTHING very slowly, yet i clean every part i can: 'Disk Cleanup;' temp files; under Document & settings - Local Settings - then Internet temp files; i even defragment once a week. Yet even bringing up 'My Computer,' causes the 'search light' to try to find files (about 30 seconds later, it does).I've checked for viruses and adware and have none under AOL's system.
the hard disk partitions shown in the my computer folder usually have a name as well as drive letter associated with them.today as i opened my folder the name of the drives along with the folders cd rom n floppy disk were missing.when i select a drive the information shows up in the left hand pane
My hard disk and cd-rom drive doesn't show up when I go to My Computer.Doesn't work in Explorer or in Vapor. It's all there and working fine when I go to Device Management.I've got Windows XP Home Edition; service pack 2
My problem is that in my computer with windows xp I used to always use the thumbnail view in the windows explorer to know which videos where which and also for images. But then my computer got all screwed up and I had to reformat it and install the windows xp again and downloaded all the new service packs and stuff. But now, I go to either the windows explorer or my computer and for images I can see the thumbnails but for videos it only shows either the windows media or realplayer logo but no thumbnail image of the video. It is driving me crazy because I really need to be able to see the thumbnails in order to identity them fast instead of having to open all of them!
I am running Windows Xp professional.Until recently my computer was working fine. But then i got GAIN from i think some codec i got online, and then my cpu usage used to jump up to 100% quite frequently. I attempted to look online as to how to remove GAIN from my computer,It has some changes to the registry which i did without making backup of it. So now my login screen will not appear i can not get into any mode, i.e. safe mode i cant restore my computer (even though i dont want to) because system restore is off
While transferring video clips from my digital camera to my computer, the media players show images upside down. There is no problem when transferring to other computers.
I cannot find out why the partition drive letters are not showing up in disk management but are showing in "My Computer". I can view directories and file in explorer but links and commands do not work because they can't find the paths.
Drives I connect via usb will not show up in My Computer anymore.I've tried my external HD,Flash drives, my ipod, and my digital camera. When I plug something in, Win XP plays the sound like normal but nothing happens. And the ipod charges like normal.I checked in Disk Management and none of my internal HDs are even listed My Computer still shows my 2 internal HDs C: & D: my Floppy A: and my dvd drive H:
I cannot get remote desktop to work on XP. The 'remote desktop connection' does not show any available computers although network is working okay. If I try to browse it says "no terminal server is available on this domain/network". Network is one PC and one new laptop both running XP home(plus one old pc running win98)
First I am new to XP but not new to computers.I got a new-ish thinkpad with two partitions on it's drive. The c: primary one was NTFS, there was another for SERVICE which was FAT32. I promptly proceeded to using PartitionMagic to break up my huge c: partition into 3 partitions (all primary - now I have 4 primary partitions, 4th being the SERVICE fat32 one), the first 3 being NTFS.
I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.
I recently purchased a USB external hard drive by Western Digital. The drive shows up in the device manager. but no drive letters show up in My Computer or Windows Explorer. I can click on Start,Run,F:, enter, and a window opens up with the drive letter as the header. Any ideas how I can get the drive letter to appear in My Computer of Windows Explorer?
