My hard disk and cd-rom drive doesn't show up when I go to My Computer.Doesn't work in Explorer or in Vapor.It's all there and working fine when I go to Device Management.I've got Windows XP Home Edition; service pack 2
View 2 RepliesIf I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI put in a new 2nd hard drive to my desktop, and when I start Windows XP, the drive does not show up under "Disk Management". This is the screen that comes up when you right click "My Computer", go to "Manage", and select "Disk Management". When I do this, there's a "Disk 0" for my original drive, and a "DVD-ROM" drive. But shouldn't there be a "Disk 1" for the 2nd drive? Is there some other driver that has to be installed for this? The drive did not come with an installation CD or anything. It's a Seagate 40gb SATA drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently my computer started doing the annoying thing where you try to type, but it freezes for a couple of seconds and then all the typing you did finally shows up. It does it when I try to scroll down a page, too; everything freezes for a few seconds before my cursor is responsive again. I have a fairly high-powered computer, and no extraneous programs are running. When I keep Task Manager running, I can see spikey activity in the CPU when these freeze-ups occur. I keep things well-defragged and spyware-free.

I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWow, this is kind of odd I ran disk cleanup and noticed that the size of the temporary files it wants to delete totals about 56 GBs, which is pretty much everything on my HD.It did this once before, only it just deleted Windows, which is pretty ironic.I've tried running chkdsk with the r parameter, and it found nothing, so I'm not sure exactly what to do with a Windows-specific issue like this, especially seeing as I have no restore points other than the latest one, which was just before I found this all out. Reformatting is NOT an option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOK,i need some help here,after changing desktop casing,I noticed that my 2nd IDE Hard drive/HD is not on "My Computer",check on the Device manager HD is present and when i tried to see the details of my HD on Disk Management HD is not present,so I've rebooted HD is present in BIOS.Things I did:1.Fix windows using recovery console2.Connect/reconnect cables3.Check if HD is still working(100% sure it's working)4.Updated driversAdditional info's"HD is Seagate Barracuda(Master-Slave set up), OS Windows XP sp3**Please note that i can't see the HD on my disk management like any other people would do to fix this problem***If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. I'm going to attempt trying the drive on a different IDE hannel, and see if that works.

They appear on "my computer" correctly, they show up in "Device Manager"(and I have no yellow question marks).In addition in "disk defragmenter" they appear but I'm unable to even run the analyse command(using other software I'm able to defragment them).I've tried EaseusParttion Manager, but the drives don't appear as well.I'm not able to use USB drives as well(I assume it is related), they appear in the right side of the task bar and they appear in "device manager" but not in "my computer" nor "Disk Management

Without finding a way into it, I can't tell you much else. The only thing I downloaded today was HJT so I could post a log on the other thread I have up. fell asleep on the couch, and when I awoke, there was a lovely blue screen with some gibberish about "if this is the first time you have seen this screen, restart" and when I did...BLACK SCREEN and this horrendous clicking noise coming from the lower right-hand side of the unit. Somehow I managed to install Windows on my E drive, and my C drive is still as it was. I have been following the instructions on how to format and install to the letter, but it's not happening for me. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 internal IDE HDD's and an external IcyBox USB2 self powered enclosure with a Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM HDD in it. The external HDD is divided into 4x40GB partitions.
Running CHECKDSK on the internal drives is no problem but when I try it on a partition on the external one it goes through Phase1, Phase 2, sometimes reaches Phase 3 then hangs and if left PC switches off. Second time it hung looked at Performance tab in Task Manager and CPU was at 100% and I could hear CPU fan revving up, obviously CPU was overheating and shutting down.Looking in Event Viewer there are a large number of disk errors. Properties says: "The device,DeviceHarddisk2D, has a bad block".Clicking on the MS link tells me:the disk itself failing or the electronics on the IcyBox
enclosure, the data on the disk is accessible and readable? Are there any known problems with this type of external HDD? The problem only came to light when I tried to merge partitions on external HDD using Partition Magic and it couldn't be done because of errors.
I have a Computer which operates on XP Service Pack 2 and has a Maxtor 1TB external Hard Drive hooked up. We do a lot of Video Editing (programs such as DV Storm, Vegas etc.) and up until yesterday the external came up as Local Disk E, but it became unplugged whilst the Editing programs were running.It now it comes up as Local Disk (I) but the problem is the Edit programs doesn't recognise any of the files (avi., mpg etc.) that are on the drive (comes up as 'invalid path'), and nor does it show them in their previous format.
