Hard Disk Configuration Master - System Doesn't Show Second Hard Disk
Feb 28, 2008If I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

Aug 7, 2010I get an error on the boot and it tells me that the hard drive can't be detected. then just goes to a blinking curser on a blank black screen.I looked in the bios and read what other forums wrote and things seem to be set correctly.I did switch it to enable UEFI Boot and that just made it to where I can't get into the BIOS Settings now.I am running xp and am connected to a central server.I have only had the pc for a year with no major problems.I can't get a hold of my IT guy since it is the weekend.

May 15, 2007have tried 1.6ghz 512mb xp pro sp2 and 1.2ghz 512mb memory 256mb graphics memory xp home sp2 drive is 250gb maxtor. the situation is if i have it in my external HDD enclosure it assigns a drive letter but i get " the device is not ready" error if i attempt to access it and if i put in my main computer as a slave drive it is detected during boot but not in windows.can anyone help me i tried deleteing the driver and having windows redetect but no luck.it might be unrelated but delayed write failure keep happening on g:/$mft and g:/$bmp.

Jan 9, 2009Recently I opened up my computer to take the dust out of it as I have before. I hadent done so in a long time so there was some caked on dust on some components. I took the RAM out an cleaned it, re-installed it. I also took my vidoe card out because the heat sink had been cloged with dust aswell. After putting everything back and restarting my computer I recived this msg before windows start up. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMand it followed with instruction to use the xp setup disk to repair the problem. so I threw the windows CD in, and tried to repair however the program tells me I have no hard drive installed. Which I do since my computer is 3 years old now and has been working fine. I hadent changed any bios settings, I never disconnected the hard dirve either.

2nd Hard Drive Does Not Show Up
Jul 16, 2005I put in a new 2nd hard drive to my desktop, and when I start Windows XP, the drive does not show up under "Disk Management". This is the screen that comes up when you right click "My Computer", go to "Manage", and select "Disk Management". When I do this, there's a "Disk 0" for my original drive, and a "DVD-ROM" drive. But shouldn't there be a "Disk 1" for the 2nd drive? Is there some other driver that has to be installed for this? The drive did not come with an installation CD or anything. It's a Seagate 40gb SATA drive.

It does it when I try to scroll down a page, too; everything freezes for a few seconds before my cursor is responsive again. I have a fairly high-powered computer, and no extraneous programs are running. When I keep Task Manager running, I can see spikey activity in the CPU when these freeze-ups occur. I keep things well-defragged and spyware-free.

Unreadable Hard Disk - Can Revert To Basic Disk
Jan 28, 2005I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.

Jul 28, 2009This is an older Dell Dimension desktop pc. It is running a RAID configuration with 2 drives. When I try to do the repair function in the recovery console, the hard drives do not show up in the MAP commmand. Also they are not listed in the Windows setup. However, they do show up in the BIOS, but not available in the boot sequence.I am not that familiar with RAID, are the drives fried or is the system not able to recognize b/c of the RAID?

Aug 15, 2008Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.
