Doing a search reveals that both my C drive and E drive (Maxtor external
hard drive) have the folder Application Data.I have chosen under Folder Options to allow all files to be shown. Indeed, all files appear for the C drive, but not all appear on the E drive.What can I do to have to do to view the E drive hidden files?
I am cloning my existing hard drive in my laptop (sata) to an external hard drive (pata) in preparation for installing a new larger hard drive (sata)in the laptop. Can I, or how do I transfer the cloned data from the external (pata) to the new internal hard drive (sata)? Thanks in advance and I apoligize if this is a rudimentary question as this is my first time attempting something like this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an EXTERNAL HD. I formatted it in FAT a few months ago. Ever since then, my laptop PC was unable to recognize the unit, but the Mac (which is not working right now, unfortunately) never had a problem with it. When I connect it to my laptop PC via USB, the USB icon shows up and the "USB Mass Storage Device Properties" says the "device is working properly." But the folder doesn't show up in My Computer, and diskmgmt.msc says the device is "Unallocated." Hopefully that doesn't mean the unit crashed because I have some stuff on there.Without losing the data (that should be on it, unless it crashed), I want to convert this thing to NTFS. I did some Google searching, but the instructions on how to do this (they say use convert.exe) aren't working. Moreover, no one mentioned how to convert an External, secondary HD.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy problem is a result of a long series of attempts to fix a corrupt Windows registry file. A few days ago I booted my laptop and received a blue screen error: c0000218, relating to a corrupt Windows registry file. Windows could not load. After a lot of searching online I found a way to manually replace this and four other related files from the c:WindowsRepair folder using the command prompt.
This process seemed to work and Windows began to load. I then received a lsass.exe error saying something about invalid passwords. My laptop began an infinite cycle of restarting itself. I looked up the lsass.exe error and people seemed to think it was unrecoverable. As my hard drive was reasonably small (100g) and had been showing some signs of problems I decided to just buy a new one. I went out and purchased a new 320g 2.5" hard drive along with a 2.5" USB drive enclosure and another 1g stick of RAM......
My external USB hard drives always used to show up in either My Computer, or Windows Explorer's double pane view in Windows XP. Although they still show in My Computer, they do not show up in Windows Explorer anymore, unless I select them in My Computer First - and then choose the "Folders" selection. do Not give me the standard answers which are for External drives that don't show up Anywhere .. because the drives DO show up in Disk Management, and they DO show up in My Computer, and this is Not a new drive that needs to be formatted.

I have a Actiontech external modem that XP doesn't recognize after I have hooked it up to the serial port, turned it on, and then booted up the PC.It doesn't even show up in devise manager. I lost the installation CD and got updated drivers for this modem at Actiontec.

When I found this Application Data folder and tried to open it there is a message saying it is corrupt and unreadable. Well like alot of people I made the mistake of selecting safeboot in the boot.ini file in the msconfig file after my comp got a virus and would not boot into safemode. The hard drive is in two partitions: the C drive used to contain windows, and the D drive which has the data i am trying to save. I don't have a Windows XP disc because it was already on the comp when i bought it. I have attempted to restore the windows files with Bart PE bootup image disc but it wiped out Windows XP completely from the C drive in the process, but the Data drive is still showing up with all its files intact.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to do an reformat on my PC. Before the reformat, my PC read both my external hard drives no problem. Then after the reformat, it only would read one. When I would restart with both connected, it wouldn't budge from the welcome screen. After I would unplug the "questionable" one, it would then allow me to log in as usual. I think it could be a driver issue but I'm not totally sure because it does read it after a little while. I changed the USB cable, so for now, it is holding. Can anybody figure out what it might be?

I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFound some very useful info on here so decided to sign up and post a recent problem i encountered with an external hard drive. the hard drive has a capacity of 80GB and came from another pc. there was a 25/55 partition already on it from the old pc. i tried to delete the partition that was 25gb. now i can't find that 25gb at all. when i plug it in to the usb slot i can only see the 55gb partition it used to appear as 2 hard drives in my computer and nothing else. when i use disc management to format it i only see 55gb.

My computer sees that it is there, but like I had said earlier, I can't use it. It won't let me see it unless I go to Device Manager. My computer is getting old on me and it's been places most labtops shouldn't have gone... Once in Purgatory, and now, it's on Hell's surface. I get the safely remove hardware icon down by my clock, but I don't want to remove it, I want to use it. Since Windows XP is supposed to have the drivers that are necessary, no driver disk was included, and none was needed.The problem developed when my Windows XP began to give me problems later. I had to re-install Windows XP. I did that, and I downloaded all Windows XP up dates (including Service Pack 2). Now, this Windows installation does not install the external hard-drive. Windows recognizes that there is "a USB2 device," but Windows states that there are no drivers and asks me to furnish them.

I get messages everytime I try to open a photo or a file. One message is Explorer EXE-Application Error, The instruction of ox600470a4 referenced memory at ox600470a4. The memory could not be written. Click on ok to terminate the program, click on cancel to debug the program. I clicked on debug and the program I got a message about Dr. Watson trying to communicate with ? and I clicked ok. Then the photo closed and all the icons disappeared and the reappeared. When I opened the same photo again, I got the following message. Data Execution Prevention-Microsoft Windows to help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program and also Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc. Again the program shuts down. Basically, I can't open anything without the error messages. I can't copy cd's either as I have in the past with Nero. The program starts and then I get a read message or the cd just will not copy. Is there a way that I can do a restore and have my computer back to where it was 3 weeks ago? I could do that with my old computer Windows 98se. I have a HP Media M7060n now and I have XP home edition. Up to now I have had no problems. This computer is very different from my old one and I have no clue how I would do a restore. I just want a restore from 3 weeks ago, not a complete restore. I think the problem has to do with a windows update. I think I did one just before these problems occured. I lost my virus protection and had to reinstall it. I thought maybe that was the problem so I uninstalled it, but that wasn't it. So..here I am very frustrated. View 6 Replies View RelatedI thought I had it solved before, but it isn't. I do not know why my cd-r and cd-rw do not show in Windows Explorer. Only the floppy disk does. My cd drives do show in my computer and I seem to have fixed it in the send to list, but checking Windows Explorer they still are not there. They seem to work fine. I have Windows XP Home, Sp 2. I have Roxio Easy CD Creator installed but never use it except to erase a cd. I have Spyware Doctor and Norton Internet Security 2006. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't make any difference though
