I have a Actiontech external modem that XP doesn't recognize after I have hooked it up to the serial port, turned it on, and then booted up the PC.It doesn't even show up in devise manager. I lost the installation CD and got updated drivers for this modem at Actiontec.
View 1 RepliesI've lost the ability to get online.Whenever I click my dialup icon I get a message saying Operator assisted orManual call and I don't hear my modem connecting.
I've checked all my configurations for the modem and network connections.The modem tests have all been positive.Under ports in the devise manager it's not showing any com ports.
This morning when I went to the computer, the screen was blank and the computer was running. There was no HD activity. The computer was not hibernating. Eventually I reset and the computer would not boot. I opened the case, removed the video card and was able to boot to XP Pro SP2. I had left the computer on overnight to render/burn a DVD with Sony Vegas.Once I got to the desktop, I found that networking was no longer functioning. None of my network connections appeared under "Network Connections". My onboard LAN (Realtek RTL8100) was no longer appearing in my device manager nor is my modem (not that I ever use it) or my firewire card. I don't know what else might be missing.I have a MSI MS-6533 Mainboard w/ Intel P4-1.6 GHz (Bought as barebones system).

hard drive) have the folder Application Data.I have chosen under Folder Options to allow all files to be shown. Indeed, all files appear for the C drive, but not all appear on the E drive.What can I do to have to do to view the E drive hidden files?

The strange part is they do on my other PC's.If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Winodws XP on a Compaq nc6120. I opened my laptop today to get it working and clicked on Google Chrome's shortcut, and nothing happened. The hourglass cursor came up and it stayed that way for about a half hour, then I tried to turn it off and back on the same thing keeps happening. I have also tried other programs. The task manager doesn't show up and the start bar does not even respond. I ran an HDD self-test and it said that all tests were successful. I use Avast Anti-Virus Free, and tried to download Comodo, but something went wrong, this was the day before theses issues started happening. I'm not very intelligent when it comes to 'under-the-hood' problems with computers, so I have no idea what could be happening.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOver clocked my system a bit too much, and ended up having to reformat. It's now a new install of Win 2000 Pro. But for some reason I don't have my USB. It doesn't show in device manager or Everest. Have done a system file check, loaded the newest Via chipset drivers, anything else I could think of, including show hidden files in device manager. Did a file search and the USB .inf file is there. But no controller. Everything worked fine before the reformat.

A few weeks later I was visiting her and was using the computer when I noticed there was no sound, where there had previously been sound. Upon opening sounds properties box I found a message stating that there was no audio device installed.I opened the device mgr and there was a yellow exclamation mark under "video controller" which was under "display." After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that the chipset driver needed updated or re-installed.

stating that it had been disabled by my administrator, I am the administrator
and I did not disable the task manager. I corrected this problem and now when

A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.

I recently reinstalled XP home on my Dell Dimension 8250 and now it won't see my Actiontec GT704-WG modem.
Modem/router working just fine, am wireless online with it on my laptop right now, all lights green.
Have checked TCP/IP and DNS to automatically detect in settings IE will not let me log onto router w/ "dslmodem" or "192.168.0.1" I get "The page cannot be displayed".When I run a repair connection on my "LAN or High-Speed Internet" I get the following message: "The following steps of the repair operation failed: Renewing the IP address. Please contact your network administrator or ISP." Device manager says network adapter is working.Have tried many, many fixes recommended on various sites and forums where problem was nearly identical, but to no avail.Have tried setting up a separate broadband connection via the connection wizard and get "Error 678" for my attempt.Have rebooted, redownloaded drivers etc. and am seeing yellow question marks on Device Manager for Ethernet controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Input Device & Texas Instruments RNDIS Adapter. I downloaded the ethernet driver from dell (orange light on ethernet cable when plugged in), but the update driver utility would NOT see/find the file no matter where it was downloaded to. Switched the router to USB cable instead. Router shows green light with either when in use. Have rebooted and replugged everything MULTIPLE times in varying order.
This may not be the NG for this but occasionally my modem goes offline for a reason which I haven't determined. The only way I know to get it back on line again is to close and restart the computer, and then I can redial.Otherwise, I can't.I feel there must be some way of re-setting the modem without having to
close down and open up again. Is there?
When I upgraded my system from Win ME to Win XP last week I have a problem with it losing my modem. Every time I shut down I have to restall the modem and redo all my ISP info.
